CASSIE POV
"Why are you here?" I asked, unable to look up at her.  She was across me, sipping her coffee that smelled far too sweet.  Antonia liked butter things now.  She wouldn't approve of such a drink.
"I'm here to give you guidance.  Though I'm a lawyer now, I do have training in psychology... you'd think for an expensive mental facility they would do better at researching who comes in and out," she chuckled.  She wore red lipstick, mascara and light blush.  Her hair was longer now and curly.  It was obvious that she purchased extensions... blonde ones.  My hair was all oily and matted.  Living in a mental facility means you don't get much time to get dressed up... nor do you have the materials to get dressed up.  "I read a little about you... such as sad story," she muttered.
"I'm not comfortable talking about that," I pinched the side of my thigh, "you had no right."
"Everything is legal as long as you never get caught," she chuckled.  Pushing a picture over to me, I quickly adverted my eyes.  It was a picture of my father, mother, my brother and me... we were smiling.  I looked to be seven at the time.  "Elijah Winters... such a smarty he was... probably even smarter than Ani," she said, playing with the corner of the photo.
My blood boiled.
"Straight A student that was loved by his teachers... who would have thought he would have gone out that way," I get sick listening to her.   I wanted to hit her... to climb over the table and kill her.  "Hazel Winters... a lunatic mother that is diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder... doesn't that sound familiar?"
"Leave me alone," I gritted out.
She then slipped another picture... this time it was one of Antonia and I when we were about to become freshmen.  "And to think sweet little Ani would stay with you after everything you did," she smiled at me... my gut dropped.
What does she know?
What the fuck is going on?
She collected the photos and played with the file in her arms.  I felt as if I was being interrogated... as if I was being arrested. "Says here you were pretty physical with Ani... biting her, hitting her, ripping her clothes and so on... I'm curious, was it fun?  Fun to force her into your little game?  Your little love world?"
"Things are different."
"Oh is it?" She laughed, "Cause it's obvious that Ani is still playing along and doing everything for you, while you sit back and take advantage of it."
"You know nothing," I muttered.
"Really? I know you have a shit ton of mental issues, have an anger that is dangerous for anyone near you... I wonder, what would happen if the adoption agency knew," she said. Instantly I moved, reaching for her when I remembered to stop. Freezing mid grab, I relax in my seat and do some breathing exercises. Jennifer just laughs, "I love it... the bullshit act. It's hilarious."
"What do you want?" I grumbled out, "Stop this lawyer act and just tell me what you want."
She stared at me, burning holes into my face. I clenched the arm rails to keep myself from losing it. "I want you to leave Ani," I almost puked. "All you do is hurt her. She never does anything for herself, never takes a moment and can't breathe because she's terrified of what you will do. You need to disappear. I don't give a shit if it's by you moving away, divorcing, or ending it all, get the fuck away from her and never come back," she said.
I swelled with pain. My lungs felt as if they were about to collapse. I can lose everything in life: money, health, my parents, my limbs and more... but not Antonia.
But I'm hurting her... I'm strangling her.
Jennifer stood up and placed a stack of papers with the words DIVORCE written on it. With that she left and I just stared at it...
"Divorce? Divorce?" I whispered over and over. My head was hurting so much, I ended up just passing out in my seat.

ANI POV
Checking in, I watched the twins run up to the doors, pressing into them too see Cassie. The conversation I had with Jaelynn was spinning around in my mind.
Could she have drugged me?
No.
Jennifer was fucked up and did suspicious things, but she wouldn't go that far. I doubt she did it. However, my stomach churned with the thought.
"Mom... where's mama?" Jakob asked.
I hurried over and looked through. Cassie wasn't there. Going over to the check in table, I asked, "Where is Cassidy Meryl?"
"Mrs. Meryl?" A nurse asked.
"Yes."
"She's unable to have a family meeting. She was sick this afternoon so the doctors want her to rest," she said, going back to stapling papers... acting as if what she said meant nothing.
"Sick with what?"
"No idea," she sighed, "she just passed out at the table. Doctor thinks she is having a hard time sleeping at night is all. If you have no one else to meet, please leave."
The coldness, the businesslike behavior... I became furious over the nurse's attitude. However my children were with me and I couldn't act up in front of them. Turning around, I smile at them and said, "Mama is too tired today. How about we go get lunch?"
