Walking into the office, no one greeted me like usual.  Silence followed me.  I could hear their mutters, feel their stares, and see their fear.  Once the elevator opened to Jennifer's floor, my anger flooded out.  The rage was gripping me, seizing my entire body.  It began to control me... as if it spread to every ounce of me.
I kicked her door open. The sound of the door smashing into the wall echoed through the floor. Jennifer sat calmly in her seat; hands folded and a grin plastered onto her wretched face, "And how may I help you, Ani?"
Making sure the door behind me was locked, a little smile came onto my face. My body began to jolt, little hiccups of laughter flooded out. One hand rested on the doorknob, while the other was dancing about in my hair. My laughter became louder and louder, so loud that it rang in my ears. Jennifer was no longer smiling. This time she was pressed against the shelves behind her desk, eyes widen with paranoia.
I stumbled forward, my hands landing on her desk with a loud crack. Once my flesh met her infected surface, my laughing stopped. I didn't have to look at her... no, I didn't want to. Keeping my voice low and eyes stuck on my nails, I hissed, "You either have a dick as big as the fucking Eiffel Tower or you're one of the dumbest bitches to ever walk on this planet. Showing up at my house... greeting my family... spewing lies... purposefully using a name that I have never given you permission to use... you... you have finally crossed the fucking line Costa..."
Quickly I snatched the end of her jacket collar and brought her close. I could feel my insanity. I could feel the rational side of me vanish. It was as if I taken on the character of Joker. Laughing, smiling, and enjoying the look of horror on my preys face.
I wanted her to be afraid.
I wanted her to know I wasn't fucking around anymore.
Whispering, I said, "If you fuck with my family, I promise that everything you have ever done... your wealth, your awards, your credit, your everything... it will be eradicated and you... you will be left in the middle of the street and remembered as nothing. Remember Jennifer, I'm the youngest person to have ever been selected into a managing role in this company... I'm fought over and this company with do anything to keep me here. I will not hesitate... because the only people I will never act like this in front of, is my family... and the truth of the matter is..." I got even closer, my lips were touching her ear, "Even if I did fuck you, you were nothing but a simple and forgetful fuck."
I dropped her and didn't waste time to leave. I didn't want her disgusting perfume to get on me. Everyone avoided me on the elevator... I was alone. Immediately I pulled out my phone and called Cassie.
It rung twice before I was sent to voicemail.
I called again.
Straight to voicemail.
~
"Thank you Jeremiah... I owe you," I closed the door and rushed inside.
"Just fix what's going on. I can drop them off tomorrow morning."
"Thank you," I hung up and set my things down. It was quiet and dark inside. Slowly I moved up the stairs. My footsteps light... making sure not to make too much noise.
Cassie was on the line of complete episode and I wanted to do everything in my power to avoid it.
When I opened the door to our bedroom, I found her sitting by the window. She was watching the leaves come falling down the dead tree in the back. I made sure to stay quiet, reading her every motion carefully.
"Who is Jennifer?" Question number one.
Best thing to do is to be specific as possible, "She is a prosecutor for family court."
"What case are you working with her on?" Question two... fuck.
"I am access the mother of a young girl. I'm trying to dictate whether or not she is capable of taking care of the girl," I said. Moving a bit closer this time.
"What does that have to deal with Jennifer?"
"She's trying to tell the courts that the mother is incapable."
She nods, telling me to take another step. "Ani?" She called.
Whenever Cassie gets to this level, she no longer addresses me by Antonia. It's as if she is in a whole different realm. At first it shocked me, but now I see it as a warning sign.
"Yes Cassie?"
"Do you love me?"
"Yes," I said, taking a step closer, "I only love you Cassie."
"Are you going to leave me?"
"No Cassie," I was beside her, "I'm not going anywhere." For a moment we stayed like that, but slowly she turned to see me and like that her dam broke.
Tears and cries came. Fall upon me, I soothed her as she cried, "I-I thought-thought you were leaving m-me.... I... I... sitting here... I... I can't be without you Ani... I love you Ani. I love you, I love you, I love you... please... please don't ever leave me... please Ani... please..." she went on and on and on.
Her paranoia came.
Cassie was not in her right mind. She was in between normal consciousness and dissociating. Whenever this occurred, she would fly into a long tangent of worries and begs. All I could do was tell her I love her and hold her close.
After an hour and half, Cassie fell asleep. Lying beside her, I ran my fingers through her hair... admiring her sleeping figure. Her state of panic exhausted her. Sucked all the energy she had.
And truthfully...
This incident told me everything...
I had to figure out what happened.
