Cassie POV
"Are you sure?" Antonia asked.
"Yes ma'am," the doctor said, "you have to be tested for it as well.  Have you two been intimate recently?"
"Yes," she said, "what about our kids?"
"Bring them as well," he said, "tuberculosis is a bacterial infectious disease that infects the lungs.  Children can get it easily due to their immune system being underdeveloped."
"Fuck," she said, pulling out her phone, "my daughter, she's 21 and pregnant... is it possible?"
"Unlikely, but it's better to be tested to make sure," he said.  I still hadn't grasp it all.  I had... tuberculosis?  When?  It was just a little cough.... A little chest pain and headache... how the fuck does that make it tuberculosis?  "Mrs. Meryl?  Do you understand everything?" He asked.
"For how long?" I asked, "How long have I had it?" Antonia was outside the room, calling Jaelynn to grab the kids and come get tested.  So I wanted to know everything.  "If my family has it, can you do anything for them?"
"If they have it we can start by giving them antibiotic that kills it.  If they have it, it's probably latent because they don't show any symptoms.  It seems you have probably been latent for a long time and only recently has it become active," he said, "we will start by giving you three types of antibiotics for six to nine months.  From there we will test to see if it's infectious and if it isn't, then you can go back into contact with your family."
"Can it ever go away?" I asked.
He sat there, giving a sad smile, "It can, but in over more than half of tuberculosis cases it comes back."

The tests came back negative for Antonia and the kids.  I went to go live in my house, informing Shelby of my issues.  Sitting on my bed, I felt myself... dissociate.
I had no idea how to describe or what I was actually feeling... I just felt numb.
My phone rang and I saw it was Antonia, "Hello?"
"I'm outside," she said.
"What?  You can't be here," I said.
"The doctor said I can come near you as long as I wear a mask, gloves and don't get too close in contact with you," she said, "now open the damn door."
Walking over, I unlocked it and shouted, "It's open."  Walking over to the couch, I watched as she entered.  She had bags of stuff.  "What is that?" I asked.
"Food, drinks, meds, and more," she said, "if you need anything, call me.  I'll come over immediately.  This is all temporary.  Six to nine months... that's what the doctor said.  You'll be perfectly fine, I know you will."
Tearing up, I mumbled, "That's to see if I'm not infectious... and look... I almost gave it to you and the kids.  If you hadn't forced me to go... you all... I'm fucking stupid."
"Hey," she yelled, "stop talking about that stuff!  You're fine and all you have to do is think about getting to six months.  Don't plague your mind with useless thoughts."  I stopped crying and just stared with awe at her.  "I need you remember... so get better and come back to live with us.  Don't waste your time getting sicker due to you worrying so much," she lectured, "I love you.  Now get better dammit."
She looked as if she was about to cry... like she was the one sick with worry. That's how I knew I needed to stop wasting my time worrying and crying.... I got up, wiping my face, "Got it... go console the kids and tell them I'm getting better... cause I am."
She smiled, "You fucking better."
