Jakob POV
Month 1
"Happy birthday babies! You're fourteen now!"
Mama said, smiling for us. Jessika was holding in her tears and I... I had so many questions but I couldn't ask them.
"Thank you mama," I said for the both of us, holding Jessika's hand under the table, "have you been watching the show we recommended?"
"I have," she smiled, "it's very weird." She was laughing and smiling, acting like mama... it hurt to watch. Mom was in the kitchen preparing the cake for us... the cake mama picked out. "I heard Jaelynn, Peter, and Allie are going over. Are you excited?" She asked.
"Yeah," Jessika muttered, "though I'd be okay if Peter was left out." Everyone chuckled, even mom. Jessika glanced down and looked at the computer again, "Mama... you won't be here for our first day in high school... so when you're able to come around again, can we hangout for a day?"
"Of course," she smiled, her eyes getting red, "of course baby."
Month 2
"How was the graduation?" Mama asked.
"It was beautiful, Jaelynn looked amazing," mom said, sitting next to Jessika to brush her hair, "she was at the top of her class... her speech was so nice."
"Thank you for sending me a video," mama said.
"The wifi there was awful... I wish I could have FaceTimed you," mom huffed, running the brush through Jessika's hair, "we need to get you a haircut."
"Can I get a pixie cut?" Jessika asked.
Mom glanced at the screen but mama just nodded, "You'd look adorable with one! You have a very slender face so we could see those beautiful brown eyes!"
"They're just shit brown," Jessika mumbled.
*whack*
"What was that for?" Jessika whined after mom hit her with the brush.
"I have brown eyes you little shit! Are you trying to say my eyes are ugly? Your mama loves my eyes thank you very much," she glared at Jessika.
"I'm sorry that we have disgusting eyes!"
*whack*
*whack, whack*
"THREE TIMES!"
Month 3
"How was your guys's first day?" Mama asked, super excited for us to start high school. Her hair was much longer now and she was paler. She had been stuck inside for three months now... no wonder she looks ghost like.
"I just hung out with Sonna," Jessika shrugged, scratching her head. She got the pixie cut and it was very cute. It fit her well. Jessika's hair was always in a ponytail but now, she doesn't have to worry about it. "Jakob just hung out with his girlfriend," she stuck her tongue at me.
Mama smiled, showing all her teeth, "How is Genesis?"
"She's doing good," I said, "we have a date this weekend. I'll tell you all about it after." I got a haircut with Jessika. I got an undercut and a fluffy top. I'm wearing contacts now and I'm dressing how I like. I wear button downs but I keep the top three buttons undone and form fitting jeans. I've started to wear rings and I wear high tops now.
Jessika showed more skin. She wore sheer outfits or long v-necks. Apparently her boobs grew - at least that's what she screamed about this last weekend. She wears skinny jeans and loves them black. She wears black or red doc martins and has a fancy for chokers. We are polar opposites and honestly... we both love it. I'm in ASB and Jessika is in the chem club.
"Jessika made a few new friends," I said, watching her scowl at me.
"Ooh what's their names?" Mama asked.
Jessika glared at me but answered mama, "Agosto and Imani."
"More details please," mama laughed.
"Well... Agosto is in the chem club with me. He went to Wayward Middle and is a pretty funny guy. Imani is on the international dance team and is part of the French club. She went to Kennedy Falls Middle and is cool," she said. Jessika is the absolute worst at describing people.
I cut in, "Agosto Ramirez is his name. He has four siblings and he is in all advance classes. I think he said his mom is from Guadalupe and his dad was born in Texas. Imani King is her name and she has two brothers, plus she's super confident. Like the girl isn't afraid of anything! She said her mom is part of the baptist church on woodwork."
"That's amazing!" Mama said, "I can't wait to hear more."
Month 4
I was working on biology when mom knocked on my door, "Mama is calling us in five minutes."
"Got it!" I said, finishing the last problem. I went over to Jessika's room, knocking on the door, "Mama is about to call."
Jessika opened the door, yawning all weirdly, "Okay." As she walked past me, I noticed a bruise looking thing on her neck.
"What is that?" I asked.
"Huh?" She looked at me and when she saw where I was looking, she shrugged, "Me and this girl were fucking around and she accidentally hit me in the neck."
"Are you being bullied again?" I followed her down.
"No?" She laughed, "Me and my friend were messing around is all. We were arguing who got the last bag of skittles."
I nodded... suspicious.
Month 5
"We get to see you at the ending of next month!" Mom said. If this isolation has hurt anyone the most it is mom.
Mama smiled, "I can't wait!"
Jessika jumped on me, "Remember we get to hangout!"
"Of course I do!"
On her neck was once again another bruise.
Month 6
Jessika and I were waiting in the car as mama was getting her checkup. Mom was inside, waiting for the news.
Jessika was nodding off when I shoved her, "We have to talk."
"What?" She muttered.
"What's up with the bruises?" I asked.
She looked at me, sighing, "You're persistent, aren't you?" She sat up, pulling off her shirt.
"What the hell are you doing!" I shouted, looking away.
"I have a sports bra on," she laughed. I looked over and there was a ton of bruises. I felt my heart just stop. "Don't escalate," she flicked me, "you know how we have a forty minute lunch?"
"Yeah," I whispered.
"Well, the seniors can leave campus to get lunch. Agosto's older sister Aryana, she does boxing. She sneaks me out in her car and she trains me. That's it," she said, "if you want proof, I'll ask if we can sneak you out."
I stared at my crazy sister.
Jessika is an adrenaline junkie. She loves physical activity and enjoys putting her life on the line. That's who she is.
Shaking my head, I said, "I'm only going to make sure you're being honest."
"Fine with me," she shrugged.
As we looked towards the doors, we saw mama running out to our car. We both jumped out and ran into her arms.
