Although things had been urgent just moments ago, Margot hadn't lost consciousness.
She'd seen everything—and remembered it clearly. That unfilial son of hers—his behavior just now had been appalling.
He scolded Esther, berated Raelynn, all to defend that imposter, Julia.
In the past, when Julia was simply scheming and greedy, she'd turned a blind eye—out of consideration for Hugo and Cecilia.
But today was different. Julia had deliberately come to her, deliberately brought up Raelynn's trip to Mount Darost, and deliberately said things meant to provoke her.
Margot had been sharp and capable her entire life—dealing with a girl like that should've been nothing.
But her health had been in decline for years. She'd barely recovered from yesterday's emotional shock, and now today she'd nearly been pushed over the edge.
It was clear—Julia had been aiming for her life.
This time, she wouldn't let it slide.
But with Edgar present, she held her tongue—for now.
Once the doors were closed, she'd deal with this family matter properly.
Hugo, always quick to read the room, noticed that Margot was ignoring him.
He could tell she was angry and wisely kept quiet, stepping aside to watch Edgar continue his examination.
At last, Edgar took out a small candy and placed it in Margot's mouth.
"This pill will nourish her vitality and strengthen her energy. It's just what she needs right now. I'll write out the prescription. Young lady," he turned to Raelynn, "you'll need to have the medicine prepared and formed into pills. Have her take three a day—the last one should be held in her mouth at bedtime, not swallowed. It'll dissolve naturally as she sleeps.
"I'll also prescribe an herbal formula to soothe the liver and lift her mood. With the right medicine, she should recover seventy to eighty percent within three months.
"Given her age, that's already quite fortunate. Any more than that would be difficult—but everything depends on that medicine."
At the mention of medicine, the mood in the room shifted. Everyone sobered.
Since ancient times, Edgar's medicine had always been the hardest to find.
And judging from Edgar's tone, this one would be no exception.
Hugo stepped forward at once. "Whatever it is—rare ingredient or priceless treasure—I'll find it, no matter the cost."
Raelynn chimed in, her voice steady and resolute. "No matter how difficult it is to get, I'll do it—for my grandmother."
"Silly child..."
Margot was moved, but what concerned her more was Raelynn's health.
She was old—her time was limited. She couldn't bear to let Raelynn suffer again on her behalf.
Raelynn had already endured far too much.
If it meant putting another burden on Raelynn's shoulders, she would rather forgo treatment altogether.
But just then, Edgar's gaze slowly swept across everyone in the room. And then, all of a sudden, he burst into laughter.
"Lady Margot, you're in luck. This medicine, while rare and unique, isn't so hard for you to obtain."
Raelynn's eyes lit up.
Hugo asked eagerly, "Then... what is it?"
Edgar looked directly at Raelynn. "You are the medicine."
"Me?"
Raelynn blinked in surprise. Around the room, everyone turned to stare at her in confusion.
Every face mirrored the same stunned expression.
"Margot, wouldn't you agree?" Edgar turned to her with a knowing smile.
Margot paused for a moment, then her eyes shimmered with unshed tears.
She understood exactly what he meant.
She nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes! My good Raelynn—you are my medicine."
She reached out and gently pulled Raelynn to sit beside her.
"Edgar, you truly are a miracle worker."
She hadn't forgotten to offer him a word of praise.
After all these years, she'd tried every medicine under the sun. None had worked. Every doctor she'd seen had told her the same thing—her body was too far gone.
But only Edgar had pinpointed the true root of her illness in a single breath.
Raelynn. Raelynn was the knot in her heart—the pain she'd carried for years.
Now that Raelynn had come home... wasn't that the same as her remedy returning?
More importantly—her body wasn't as hopeless as those other quacks had said.
And that—was the best news she could've asked for.
