Yet, when Margot heard Raelynn refer to her parents and brother as people who weren't meant to be in her lifebonds, she couldn't help but feel a sharp pang in her heart.
Still, Margot knew that Raelynn was right.
Raelynn was barely fifteen, yet she spoke such world-weary words. It was because those three had truly broken her heart beyond repair.
All Margot knew was that those three would surely live to regret their actions.
They had chosen to sever this family bond with their own hands.
But Margot kept these thoughts to herself.
With her wise, knowing eyes that had seen it all, Margot gazed at Raelynn, her look filled with grandmotherly affection and deep understanding.
Raelynn was her most beloved granddaughter, who truly took after her.
Raelynn was the brave girl who, in the dead of winter, would climb Mount Darost alone on a snowy night just to seek a cure for Margot.
She was also a truly kind soul, with a heart big enough to embrace the whole world.
Margot couldn't be prouder of her.
Noticing that Margot had been staring at her for an unusually long time, Raelynn instinctively raised a hand to her cheek, a hint of surprise flickering across her face.
"Grandma, is there something on my face?" Raelynn asked.
"No, my dear," Margot said warmly, "I was just watching you. You have truly grown up."
"Of course, Grandma! But no matter how much I grow up, I'll always be a kid to you."
"Of course, my dear."
They burst into laughter, and the atmosphere in the carriage grew even warmer and more harmonious.
Sienna and Esther sat attentively on either side, attending to their employers.
Witnessing such a heartwarming scene between Margot and Raelynn, Sienna and Esther found their eyes growing moist.
As Margot's personal attendant, Esther knew best how deeply Margot had missed and worried about Raelynn all these years.
To rescue Raelynn, Margot went so far as to redeem the Royal Pardon.
Having served by Raelynn's side these past days, Sienna had naturally come to truly understand just how important Margot was to Raelynn.
During her years of servitude in the palace, Raelynn's constant worry for Margot had kept her going.
The mutual devotion between them was truly the most touching.
Esther and Sienna exchanged a glance, their eyes quietly welling up with tears. Lowering their heads, they gently dabbed at the corners of their eyes with handkerchiefs.
Since the two carriages were traveling one behind the other and kept very close together, Raelynn and Margot's laughter also drifted into Julia's ears.
Julia's face abruptly contorted with rage, violently snapping her out of her pleasant reverie.
Julia slammed her fist against the carriage wall, her teeth clenched as she muttered venomously, "Laugh all you want now. Let's see if you can still smile at the Ice Party!"
Isabel and Katherine flinched at the sudden violence.
Katherine and Isabel quickly lowered their heads again, terrified that any sudden movement might draw Julia's attention.
Isabel and Katherine thought, 'After all, with Lady Julia in such a rage, who would dare poke at her?'
Luckily for everyone, Julia didn't have a chance to lash out. The carriage rolled to a stop at the entrance to the Ice Party.
The coachman outside stopped the carriage and called out, "Miss Lennox, we're here."
Isabel gave Katherine a subtle look. Katherine immediately nodded, lifted the carriage curtain, and stepped down.
Isabel turned to Julia and said softly, "Miss, we've arrived. Shall I help you down?"
Only then did Julia snap back to reality.
Julia shot Isabel an irritated glance, then rested her hand on Isabel's arm and descended from the carriage with practiced grace and composure.
The moment Julia's feet touched the ground, she immediately spotted Raelynn up ahead, also helping Margot out of their carriage.
Julia shot them a venomous glare.
Then, Julia swiftly masked her face with a deceptively innocent smile, stepped forward, and curtsied to Margot. "Grandmother."
Margot's attitude toward her was lukewarm at best.
She cast Julia a fleeting, indifferent glance and acknowledged her with a plain voice. Without another word, she let Raelynn escort her into the party hall.
But before leaving, Margot tossed a dismissive remark at Julia. "Julia, go enjoy yourself. You've never had the patience to hang out with me."
This effectively dictated Julia's place.
Julia was so furious she nearly ground her teeth to dust.
She thought, 'Not that I ever planned to stick around with this old hag anyway, but now she shows up and insists on having Raelynn by her side instead of me. She's making a fool of me in front of everyone!
'If those high society ladies in Hazond City see this, they'll be gossiping about me behind my back again!'
After all, everyone in Hazond City knew that Raelynn was the culprit who had caused Alice's miscarriage.
Still, Margot, who represented the Duke's estate, wouldn't have Julia by her sidd. Instead, she chose to parade around in public with Raelynn.
Julia thought bitterly, 'The implication couldn't be clearer.
'Just imagine the gossip those high society ladies will spread about me!
'All these years, my reputation in Hazond City hasn't been as spotless as Mother and Father believe...
'No way!"
'Time to pick up the pace.'
