Even though it was still early, Cecilia had already used this as an excuse to politely dismiss everyone.
Seeing this, Hugo knew there was nothing more he could say.
After a moment's thought, he simply reminded Cecilia not to tire herself out and to let the maids handle things.
He then retreated to his study, his mind already churning with ways to address the day's events.
As he left Moonspire Keep, Hugo was left with a growing resentment.
As fate would have it, Vania came dashing past him.
Hugo barked, "Wait!"
Vania froze in her tracks upon recognizing Hugo. Trembling uncontrollably, she stammered, "Lord Hugo..."
Hugo shot her a glare and snapped, "Are you from Lunebloom Hollow?"
"Yes, Lord Hugo," Vania nodded, her voice still quivering slightly.
"Tell Raelynn that when she returns home today, she has to report to my study at once," Hugo commanded, his voice darkening further at the mention of Raelynn.
"Yes, Lord Hugo." Vania shuddered again at the icy tone in his voice.
Luckily, Hugo didn't care to waste another word on her. Once he got her answer, he turned on his heel and left.
He didn't even bother to ask her name.
If he hadn't happened to see Vania coming out of Lunebloom Hollow that day, he wouldn't have even known who was in Lunebloom Hollow. He never cared enough to find out.
Meanwhile, Raelynn, the very person the entire Lennox family was grumbling about, was serenely strolling through the Ice Party with Sienna.
Bathed in light, the ice sculptures sparkled in colors, presenting a truly enchanting sight.
Sienna sighed regretfully, "It's a shame Nina couldn't come and enjoy the sights too."
Though she couldn't openly blame Julia for her recklessness today, she truly felt it was unfair to both Raelynn and Nina Arnold.
She thought, 'Lady Raelynn did nothing wrong, but Lady Julia has been making trouble all day. She even dragged Nina into it. This is why Nina couldn't make it to the Ice Party.'
At the mention of Nina, Raelynn nodded regretfully. "Yes, Nina has been talking about wanting to come for days. But with Grandmother joining us today, and since you work for her, I thought it best for you to stay to keep an extra person to look after her."
Sienna smiled and said, "It's alright. Who knows? Maybe there'll be even better ice sculptures next year."
Raelynn smiled. "You're right. It's winter after all, and there are plenty of fun things to do besides just admiring ice sculptures. In a few days, I'll arrange to take all of you girls up the mountain to build snowmen together. How about that?"
"Oh, that's even better!" Sienna clapped her hands in delight.
At barely sixteen, Sienna was just two years older than Raelynn.
Though she was always efficient and reliable in her duties, she still retained a girlish playfulness.
Accustomed to constant work, she rarely had the chance to play in the snow, so the prospect felt wonderfully novel to her.
Raelynn smiled. "It's settled then! In a few days, I'll talk to Grandmother about it."
Raelynn's four personal maids were all truly exceptional.
She never stinted on her kindness toward those who treated her well.
Raelynn and Sienna were chatting and laughing as they strolled along.
Out of nowhere, they suddenly collided with a flamboyantly dressed young woman who carried herself with unmistakable arrogance.
Before Raelynn could even react, a shrill, grating voice pierced the air. "Are you blind? Didn't you see my lady? Who let this brainless stray wander in here?"
Raelynn steadied herself and looked closer. To her utter dismay, the woman before her was none other than her old nemesis, Jaylee Ramos
Jaylee was none other than the noble consort's niece.
During those four years in Aether Sanctum, Raelynn endured not only the torment from the king and the noble consort, but also the relentless bullying of Jaylee.
For a long moment, neither Raelynn nor Jaylee spoke.
Jaylee's gaze at Raelynn dripped with nothing but sheer contempt and arrogance; deep in Raelynn's eyes, a fire of fury and hatred blazed.
Compared to Julia, Jaylee was in a league of her own when it came to cruelty.
If Julia's antics were just petty bids for family affection, then Jaylee was pure evil incarnate.
Last year, in the Aether Sanctum, Raelynn suffered a grievous injury to her hand.
That injury nearly cost her her life.
If it hadn't been for a compassionate maid who secretly brought her medicine, her left hand would have been permanently crippled.
Even now, though she could move her hand freely, a dull ache would creep in whenever winter turned cold and damp.
Raelynn thought, 'It's all thanks to Jaylee!'
