Gabriel had meant to smooth things over, but somehow the words that came out were twisted. "Regardless, you made Julia faint from anger today. You must go apologize to her. As for those things you mentioned, I can put in a good word for you with her.
"And from now on, you two have to get along..."
A sharp sound echoed as Raelynn landed another stinging slap across Gabriel's face.
After that first slap, Raelynn suddenly realized that giving someone a slap felt so much more satisfying than scolding them
'Even if a few more people showed up right now, slapping them would be a piece of cake,' Raelynn thought to herself.
Plus, it saved her the hassle of explaining.
Gabriel was caught completely off guard by another slap, his fury so intense he could feel his blood boiling.
Gabriel seized Raelynn's wrist, his face contorted with rage as he barely restrained himself from striking back. "You're going today, whether you like it or not!" he snarled.
Gabriel snapped, "I think you have grown out of control. The way you humiliated Julia at the Ice Party has brought utter disgrace to the Duke's estate. If I don't teach you a proper lesson today, I won't be fit to call myself your brother.
"Get to Moonspire Keep right now, fall to your knees and apologize to Julia until she forgives you. Don't you dare get up before she does."
Without another word, Gabriel grabbed Raelynn by the wrist and began dragging her away forcefully.
Raelynn was genuinely shocked. She never imagined Gabriel would get so angry that he'd actually try to use force on her.
Seeing this, Sienna frantically rushed forward to stop Gabriel.
She said, "Lord Gabriel, it was Lady Julia who instigated this whole mess today. If you don't believe me, just ask Mrs. Lennox. She knows exactly what happened. Raelynn is your sister. Acting like this will only drive a wedge between you two."
Even after all this, Sienna still clung to the desperate hope that Raelynn could mend fences with her family.
But alas, Hugo, Cecilia, and Gabriel seemed to have lost all reason. They repeatedly broke Raelynn's heart.
Gabriel snarled before shoving Sienna aside, "Get lost.
"Everyone knows Grandmother spoils Raelynn rotten and can barely tolerate Julia. At today's Ice Party, Grandmother had a brand-new dress made just for you, but couldn't even spare a scarf for Julia.
"You owe Julia so much. Will it kill you to apologize?"
Now he was even blaming Margot.
Incensed by Gabriel's audacity to slander Margot like that, Raelynn was about to land another slap.
As they stood in a tense deadlock, a low, rich, and dangerous voice rang out from the mansion's entrance. "Does my fiancée need to apologize to a mere adopted daughter?"
Gabriel froze in place, his body suddenly rigid. Slowly, he turned toward the voice.
Sienna spotted Shawn and rushed over with desperate hope shining in her eyes. "Lord Shawn, please, you must help my lady!"
"Shut up!" Gabriel snapped.
To be humiliated by Shawn made Gabriel feel utter shame. His grip on Raelynn's wrist tightened unconsciously.
Gabriel forced a strained smile. "My sister can be quite a handful. I'm afraid she's made a spectacle of herself before you, Lord Shawn."
Even though he was clearly Shawn's future brother-in-law, when confronted with Shawn's overwhelming presence, Gabriel couldn't shake the feeling that he was utterly insignificant to him.
At least with Ian, he always felt completely self-assured.
At this moment, Gabriel still hadn't realized that what he felt for Shawn was, above all, envy.
After all, they were practically the same age and came from equally prestigious noble families.
But with only mediocre talent, all Gabriel could do was take the exams and follow the safe, pre-arranged path his father had meticulously laid out for him.
Even if he attended the exam, at best, Gabriel could only manage to become a scholar.
But Shawn had been a prodigy since childhood.
Yet even now, having reached the pinnacle of power as the Prime Minister, he achieved it all without ever leveraging any influence from the Marquis' estate.
Compared to him, all those years of grueling study just felt like a complete joke to Gabriel.
Back in the day, Gabriel had even fantasized that once Julia married Ian, he could leverage that connection to cozy up to Shawn and gain a powerful ally.
Yet, of all ironies, Shawn was actually going to marry Raelynn.
Logically speaking, a blood sister's bond should be much closer than with an adopted one. It would only give Gabriel an advantage in extending his social netwok.
However, for some reason, Gabriel couldn't shake the thought that leveraging his blood sister's connections for advancement felt even more disgraceful than doing so through his adopted sister.
Thus, when he had opposed Raelynn's marriage to Shawn, this very consideration had weighed heavily in his decision.
He couldn't stand being Shawn's brother-in-law, yet still felt overshadowed by him.
But neither Shawn nor Raelynn had the slightest idea what was going through Gabriel's mind.
