I could see the conflict in her eyes—she clearly despised Ethan Holloway, yet her body remained frozen as his hands wandered freely.
The nurse's face drained of color when I showed her the video, her pupils dilating with raw panic.
I leaned in, pressing my advantage.
"This little backroom affair of yours doesn't exactly scream 'professional relationship.' Since Ethan won't surrender the footage and seems determined to ruin me along with himself, maybe I should just upload this for the world to see. Imagine—your parents, your coworkers, the entire hospital staff getting front-row seats to your romance with the dashing clinic director. Maybe they'll throw you a congratulations party."
Instead of the relieved confession I expected, her expression contorted in pure terror.
"Please—you can't do that!"
I waited in silence, letting the threat sink in.
Her face became a battlefield of fear and anguish. When she finally spoke, her voice cracked like thin ice.
"I... I only joined his plastic surgery clinic this year. After a few months, I actually trusted him enough to consider liposuction. But then—" Her breath hitched. "He spiked my IV. When I woke up, he'd already..."
Sobs wracked her body.
"After that, he used the video to force me into his bed whenever he wanted, but never let anyone know we were involved. I thought I was the only one... until you and your boyfriend walked out that day. That's when I realized—this is his pattern."
Liam Sinclair and I shared a loaded glance. "Do you have any evidence?" I demanded.
Her head dropped in defeat.
Our hope evaporated—until she whispered:
"But lately... he's been treating me like his favorite pet. Said he might take me to his apartment soon. If I can get inside... there's a USB drive where he keeps all his trophies."
A jolt of electricity shot through me.
Maybe even karma had finally decided to punish Ethan Holloway.
Seven days later, her call came—she'd stolen the drive, but Ethan had discovered the theft. Now he was hunting her like prey. Too terrified to go home or show her face at work, she'd gone into hiding.
Liam and I raced to retrieve her. In a dingy hotel room, we combed through the drive's contents—and struck gold. My video sat there alongside dozens of others.
We called the cops before Ethan could blink.
He made a run for it, but the police intercepted him at the departure gate.
During questioning, he folded like a cheap suit—confessing to systematically preying on vulnerable women for years.
The DA predicted seven to ten years behind bars.
As we finished giving statements, Liam suddenly turned to me, his eyes burning with intensity. "Marry me."
My breath caught. "After everything... I feel like I've let you down."
He cradled my face. "You're the one who got hurt. None of this was ever your fault. And I love you—that hasn't changed. If anything, watching your strength through this makes me want to stand by you forever."
Something dark and heavy inside me finally loosened its grip. I buried my face in his chest.
"Okay."
