My entire body shook with rage and betrayal. "Liam! I trusted you! How could you do this to me?"
Some people never change—he was still the same snake he'd always been.
Liam's lips twisted into a cruel smirk, his eyes glinting with dark amusement. "Shh. The harder you fight, the more fun this gets."
I thrashed against him, cursing myself for ever believing he was anything but rotten. How could I have been so stupid?
Tears of fury burned in my eyes as I spat, "If my parents find out, you're dead! Liam Murphy, don't make a mistake you can't take back!"
For a heartbeat, the air went still.
A foolish part of me hoped—just for a second—that maybe, somewhere deep down, he still had a shred of decency.
But I should've known better.
All three of them erupted into laughter, their mocking grins cutting into me like knives.
Liam yanked my hair so hard my vision blurred. "Ah—let go of me!"
His breath was hot and poisonous against my ear. "Luna Devonshire, drop the act. After we're through with you, who's gonna believe it was us?"
I screamed, clawing at him, but it was useless. With a nod to the other two, they started dragging me toward the ocean.
The endless stretch of water filled me with pure terror. "HELP! SOMEONE—PLEASE!"
My heels dug into the sand, leaving deep gouges behind, but there was no one around to hear me. No one to save me.
Was this really how it ended? Dad... Mom... Please...
"Liam! Just let me go!" I sobbed.
But against three of them, I didn't stand a chance.
He grabbed my throat, pulling me close enough to taste his smirk. "Let you go? Luna, you're smarter than that. You know exactly what I want."
His touch made my skin crawl.
Tears streamed down my face—fear, rage, helplessness—it all crashed over me at once.
Aaron and James hauled me into the icy water, waves slamming into me, filling my mouth with salt. I choked, flailing as the current dragged me under.
Aaron yanked me back up, his gaze burning. "Such a pretty thing. I'll go easy on you. After all, last time at the aquatic center, we never got to... finish what we started."
"You sick bastard!"
Disgust twisted in my gut. I spat a mouthful of seawater right in his face.
He dropped me with a snarl, letting me flounder in the waves.
Watching me struggle, he sneered. "Too bad, sweetheart. You're already in the pig's hands."
Their laughter echoed around me, but I blocked it out. All that mattered was air—just one more breath.
I couldn't swim. My only chance was to stay calm, float—survive.
But I'd forgotten the obvious: I was one unarmed girl against three monsters.
I turned my head, wet hair plastered to my face as the waves battered me.
And there they stood—three predators, their hungry stares ready to tear me apart.
