"No... that can't be. Sophia is dead."
My voice trembled as I spoke. "Dylan told me himself—six years ago, she jumped to her death."
Isabella's lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. "Sorry to shatter your illusions, but here I am. Dylan, Tyler, and Brandon—they tried to force themselves on me that night. Jumping was my only way out. Lucky for me, fate had other plans."
I studied her face, and suddenly, it hit me—the resemblance was uncanny. The way her eyes darkened, the defiant tilt of her chin.
She was good. So good she had me fooled.
"Now," she said, gesturing to the hidden camera in the corner, "let's set the record straight. That little negotiation? Live-streamed. Thanks for playing your part—over a hundred thousand people just watched the show."
The door burst open. Police swarmed in, slapping cuffs on Dylan and his cronies before hauling them away.
A month later, justice was served.
Standing outside the courthouse, Isabella looped her arm through mine as we watched the police car vanish down the road. Then, with a mischievous glint in her eye, she turned to me.
"Ethan, doesn't something strike you as odd?" She tilted her head. "I never asked your name. So how did I suddenly know it?"
She had a point. I replayed the past month in my head.
How did she know?
Her grin widened, and she shot me a look that made my pulse skip.
"Because I was your homeroom teacher—the one you pined over for six years. I didn't die. I just disappeared, reinvented myself to stay ahead of them."
She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Now, Ethan, I'm asking you for real—marry me. I'm not who you thought I was. That night at the hotel? That was my first time."
My answer came without hesitation. "Yes. A thousand times yes. You were—you are—the girl of my dreams."
