Piper’s POV
I was panicking now. I didn’t know what to do. I suddenly began to shift without warning. I stood there standing completely naked. ‘What the hell Lucky! Why did we shift back?’ I screamed at her in panic.
‘I don’t know sugar. I can’t come forward right now. There is an invisible force stopping me every time I try to. But do you smell that? Mmmmm I want me some of whatever that is.’ said Lucky, she wasn’t going to be any help right now. Now that her attention is on that scent she has been going crazy running circles in my mind. Crazy wolf picked the worst time to get the damn zoomies.
The man from the cabin appeared also naked. I assume he can’t be shifted right now either. “You can’t run any farther you stupid b***h! You’re going to pay for that. I will kill that brat right in front of you now!” He yelled at me.
“You don’t want to do that.” Timberlink growled out.
“And why exactly don’t I want to do that boy?” He spit out at Timberlink.
“Because you don’t threaten to kill my beloved without answering to me!” A deep voice rang out behind him from the forest, and it sent shivers down my spine. Not the bad kind. The tingly kind that seems to run straight to your core. I was mortified to realize that I could smell my arousal. What the hell!
‘It’s ok now Piper. Mate will save us. He sounds so sexy!’ Lucky said as she laid on her back exposing her belly with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth while she pants. I mentally facepalm myself. Leave it to my wolf to get horny in a time like this.
“Grandpa Roman!” Timberlink cheered out.
Huh. So my mate is who Selene sent Ares to get. I am starting to understand what she said now. She was trying to prepare me for my second chance mate so I didn’t throw the mate bond away because of what my first mate did to me. Doesn’t mean he will want me once he knows everything that I have done. ‘Don’t get too excited Lucky. Wait until he realizes everything that we have done. He will reject us or worse kill us for taking his grandchildren.’ I told her sadly.
‘Mate will understand we were trying to protect our pup! Not all men are like him! You are too negative. Mother moon would not have sent him to us if she wasn’t sure he would accept us. Trust in our goddess again, Piper. I promise you won’t regret it.’ Lucky said, sounding so sure of herself. It almost gave me hope.
“What is the name of the man that is going to die by my hands tonight?” Roman asked with authority.
“Simon. Not that it is any of your business and you kill me? HA! You are only one man with a woman and three children. Not very good odds considering I have ten men with me.” Siman says cockily.
“Oh? You have ten men with you? That couldn’t be the scraggly group of rogues my men have already dispatched by chance would it? Oh and it was eight men and one woman. Should learn to count there, son.” Roman said with a smirk.
Simon’s face went pale, but he quickly recovered his bravado and said, “Why would you want to have a w***e and a thief as a mate? You know she has a pup right. No father in sight. Not to mention she stole those other two pups right out from their home. You still want to protect that dumb b***h?”
Timberlink was quick to answer and said, “She had no choice to take us. You guys threatened to kill her baby if she didn’t.” Roman snarled out furiously and yelled, “ENOUGH! I have heard enough.”
I lowered my head understanding that he had heard enough about me to not want me. I felt tears falling down my face. In the matter of seconds I could hear a gurgling sound and then I felt warm calloused hands cupping my face. Making me look up into Roman’s eyes. Shockingly enough I could see real concern in his eyes.
“It’s ok sweetheart. They can’t hurt you now. I’ve got you and you’ll never be alone again.” He said so gently to me. I looked into his eyes trying to find any deceit and I found nothing but honesty shining through. I broke down into sobs and gripped around his waist as best I could, while he held me close and whispered soothingly to me.
After a few minutes my sobs finally calmed down and I was able to pull myself away from him when he said something that just about sent me right back into another sobbing fit. “Let’s go check out our pup and grandchildren shall we?”
“Y..you accept..accept Anya too?” I asked hoping against all hope he doesn’t want me to send my daughter away. Most other male wolves are too possessive to care for another man’s young.
‘Ummm Piper. He isn’t a wolf. Take a whiff, sugar. Our mate is Vampire, and a very strong one at that!’ Lucky said. I did as she said and she was right. I could smell the distinct scent of a vampire on him.
“Of course I do. What kind of mate let alone man would I be if I sent away my mate’s child breaking her heart? We both have a past and while mine is a lot older than yours we both will share children and hopefully one day if you are willing to have some of our own too?” Roman says ending his little speech as more of a question than anything.
“I would like that.” I said with a blush. Lucky was prancing in my mind chanting over and over again how her mate wants to have pups with her. She is so easily pleased I chuckled mentally about that thought.
As soon as we reached the pups an orb opened up in the sky much like I saw the night I was ambushed right outside of the pack for the trap. Out walked a beautiful woman with two men beside her and a small army of warriors. “Mommy! Daddies!” Timberlink yelled out and ran to his parents with his sister in his arms. Roman had quickly plucked Anya from the young boy’s arms before he ran off.
I went to walk towards Roman and Anya but found that my body wouldn’t move. I looked around with my eyes trying to see what was holding me in place. “Roman! I..I can’t move? What’s going on?” I cried out to him.
“You are going to pay for taking my pups!” A man roared as he came charging towards me. I closed my eyes praying that Roman turns Anya around so that she doesn’t see what is about to happen to me.
“Stop Ethan! You don’t want to do that, son.” Roman said with authority.
“Move Roman. I don’t care if you are Beth’s adoptive dad or not! This b***h stole my pups and she needs to be punished for it!” Ethan screamed out.
“I cannot let you hurt my beloved for something she had no choice in. So either you keep on your path of mindless revenge and I put you down, or you can stop and listen and use the brain the gods blessed you with! I hope you choose the last option, but I am prepared to protect my beloved and pup.” Roman said. At this point I opened my eyes and noticed that Roman was standing in front of me blocking the other man’s path.
“What do you mean she had no choice Roman? Everyone has a choice.” The other man said.
“What would you do to protect your pups hmm? If asked to steal another person’s child in exchange for your own child’s life would you do it? Or would you watch a lunatic kill your child?” Roman said.
I heard a gasp come from the woman and within seconds I was released. I quickly grabbed Anya from Roman’s arms and he wrapped his arms around my waist in a protective posture.
“We can talk back at the packhouse.” The woman said with authority to make me want to bow down to her. She opened another portal behind her and walked through followed by Ethan and Alexi and Timberlink. Roman placed his hand on the small of my back and escorted me through the portal into an office. We all took our seats and once we were all settled the woman spoke again and said, “So. Tell us exactly what happened and start all the way from the beginning. I have a feeling there is more to you than just what happened tonight.”
All eyes turned to me expectantly. I gulped nervously not even knowing where to start.
