Dream
I was walking through the same forest I was in earlier and came to the edge, though this time I wasn’t in the clearing with the small waterfall. This time there was a door standing in the middle of the field with chains wrapped around it. In my hand I felt a small key.
“She is waiting for you Princess. They have all been waiting a very long time for you.” Said a deep voice beside me causing me to jump. The man chuckled at me and patted my head like I was a small child. Though considering he was over seven foot tall I must look like a small child to him.
“You scared me. It isn’t nice to sneak up on people you know.” I said to him as I swatted his hand away from my head as I continued, “Who are you and what do you mean?”
“I think you are more interested in knowing who you are, Princess, but I will humor you by answering your questions. That key in your hand unlocks your Lycan spirit from the binds my sister and I placed on your line. The first Lycan to be in over a thousand years. You are destined for greatness Princess. You will lead your people in the war to come. Don’t worry leading and war are in your blood afterall you are descended from the God of War.” He said with a small chuckle at the end.
I just stared at him for a few minutes with my mouth hanging open. I didn’t react until he gently lifted my chin to close my mouth for me, snapping me out of my shock. “Your….Your….” I stammer out. I can’t even complete my thoughts. The man standing in front of me is no man. He is the God of War, Ares, my ancestor.
“I see you have put it together. You are very smart, young one. Yes, I am your ancestor and the God of War. But you can call my gramps. I have always wanted to be a part of my offspring’s lives and this is my opportunity to.” He says as he lays his hand on my stomach. “They are strong, you know. They will do a great many things together. It won’t be easy but nothing worth having in life is ever really easy you know. I am just glad that mate of yours is smarter than he looks. I am still not 100% on board with him just yet. Only time will tell if I am wrong.” He says.
I look at him like he has another ten heads. Why doesn’t he like Ethan? “What is it that you have against my mate? He has been nothing but loving and supportive of me and the pups.” I say getting angry. I feel my skin start to tingle and my fingers start to hurt. I look down and see I have claws coming out of my fingertips. I gasp and look up to see Ares smiling down at me with a look of pride in his eyes.
“Very good Princess. You haven’t even unlocked your Lycan spirit yet and still you can channel the part of yourself locked away by the gods. You are very strong indeed. I don’t necessarily have anything against him. He just hasn’t proven he is worthy of someone in my bloodline, that’s all.
Your father was never worthy of the blood in his veins. He is too consumed with hate to know the true beauty of the life he should have shared with you and your mother.
We don’t have much more time Princess. So why don’t you go ahead and walk up to your destiny and set it free.” He says to me as he places his hand on my back to lead me to the door in the middle of the clearing.
The closer we get the more I hear whimpers and growls. I pull away from Ares and run the rest of the way to the door. I frantically try to put the key in the lock. I hear the whimpering more and I fear there is something wrong. I finally get the key into the lock after a few attempts.
When I remove the lock the chains disintegrate and the door glows white for a minute. After the glow dies down I see that it is open a bit and I push it the rest of the way open.
Inside is a beautiful white wolf with a blue crescent moon on her forehead and a gray owl on her hind quarter. I look further and notice she also has chains wrapped around her but there doesn’t seem to be any type of lock.
I bend down beside her head and place my hand on the crescent moon and on instinct I place my other hand on the owl. Suddenly there is another white glow however this time it is brighter than from the door. I close my eyes to shield them from the light and when it is gone I open my eyes to see the most otherworldly violet eyes I have ever seen. The chains are gone and the wolf is staring right at me.
In my mind I hear a woman say “Thank you for freeing me Beth. I have been waiting for you to find me and set me free.”
“Wow. Hi. Umm. Are you my wolf or am I going crazy now with everything else?” I ask out loud. I hear a chuckle in my head and from Ares who I just remembered was here. I look at him confused.
“No sweetie, you aren’t going crazy. I am your wolf and you don’t have to talk to me out loud. People will definitely start thinking you are crazy then.
My name is Harmony. I can’t wait until we can shift. I can feel our pups too. They will be safe when we shift unlike normal female wolves we will still be able to shift while carrying our pups. Part of the perks of being a grandchild of gods.” Harmony says to me.
“Well I am glad that our pups will be safe. I wouldn’t want them hurt. I can’t exactly say that I am looking forward to the first shift. From everything that I have learned, shifting the first time is excruciatingly painful.” I say to Harmony in my mind.
“I’m sorry Princess, but our time here is almost over. I need you to come back to me now.” Ares says.
I look at Harmony one more time and pet her behind her ear and tell her I will see her soon. She gives me a wolfy wink and starts to walk toward Ares and right out the door disappearing into thin air.
“Where did she go?!” I ask in a panic.
“Don’t worry little one. I am here with you. I will never leave you.” Harmony says in my mind. I relax now knowing that she is still with me.
“Well don’t do that to me. I thought you were gone forever.” I say back to her. I just hear her chuckle to me as if what I said was funny. Hmmph. I block her out without even realizing I could do it.
“Very good Princess. It takes some mortals years to be able to block out their wolves. You are definitely of my blood.” He smiles with pride.
“Well she thought she was funny tricking me like that. She deserves a small time out for scaring me like that.” I pout a little but secretly I am preening on the inside at his compliment. It isn’t every day that the God of War gives those away. At least I assume that it isn’t that way.
“I will see you again soon Princess. Remember to just relax and let your body do what it knows to do for your first shift. It will go faster than you think. I promise. It’s time to wake up now.” He says as he places a kiss on my forehead. Everything around me starts to fade and I feel my eyes flutter open.
End of dream
When I wake up I feel different. My body feels hotter and I can see better too. I look around thinking I would find Ethan with me but the bed is cold beside me.
Out of instinct alone I sniff the air and can tell he has been gone for a while because his scent is faint. I sit up in bed and start thinking about my dream I just had. “Where is that delicious mate of ours? He should have been here with us when we woke up.” Harmony says with a pout, and I nearly jump out of bed not expecting to hear another voice in my head.
