“Well, let’s go to my office to talk about this.” Arthur said as he looked around like someone was listening in. I looked around too to see a few pack members turn their heads away and lean their heads down slightly. I guess they were eavesdropping. I can’t blame them because I probably would be too. It isn’t every day that you hear someone talking about Lycans since they haven’t been around in forever. We all stood up and left the dining hall and made it into the office. We sat down in the seating available. Ethan had pulled me onto his lap so the other seat was available for Jess as Martha was also seated on her mate’s lap like me.
“Ok Dad. What did it say?” Jess asked impatiently.
“Patience J-bean one day it will serve you well to have it. Anyway, ah here it is” Arthur said as he was flipping through the book as he scolded Jess, “It says here that most Lycan shifts are comparable to that of werewolves except the pain levels determine the strength of the Lycan. The 1st shift is always the hardest but it can be seconds to hours for the change. The longest recorded shift for a Lycan was 15 hours and they almost died because of it and they were the weakest Lycan ever to have lived yet still stronger than any other supernatural. The shortest recorded shift is that of Lupus which was 30 seconds and he was the strongest Lycan there was which explained why he was king. Now the part that is rubbed out is what I want and need to know. It starts out saying that a royal Lycan shift needed a few things to make it happen as it should with no delays, but I can only see that it says it needs to be the full moon after the 18th birthday, needs to be done under the moon, but the last is rubbed out.” Arthur finished.
“Can I see it Dad?” Ethan asked and Arthur handed him the book. I looked at it myself and I didn’t see what he meant by it being rubbed out. It clearly says that the last thing needed was. “Dad. What are you talking about? I don’t see anything rubbed out. The last thing is that they need to be surrounded by the 5 elements.” Ethan said and I nodded my agreement that I could see it too.
Jess snatched the book away to see it too though she looked at it with an odd look on her face. “What are you two talking about? Dad is right. It is rubbed out.” Jess passed the book to Martha who had her hand held out for it. She too admitted that it was rubbed out to her as well.
Now I am confused. Why can’t they see it but we can. ‘It is because it really is rubbed out, but being a Lycan you can see it and Ethan can see it because he is mated and marked by us. Someone tried to keep this information locked away. It is very important to have all 5 elements Beth. If there aren’t then the shift could go wrong and kill us and our pups.’ said to me and I repeated what she said to everyone else.
Harmony
“So the 5 elements. Being outside we will have earth and air. So we need to have water, fire, and spirit.” Arthur said. ‘Spirit is easy, we just slice our palm before we begin. We need to hurry because we don’t have much more time. Maybe an hour if we are lucky.’ Harmony said. I relayed the information and we all went on our way to get the items we needed and met back in Arthurs office.
“Ok folks. Looks like we have everything. Are you ready Beth? I know you are nervous. Just remember you are descended from Lupus who had the shortest shift ever. I have a feeling yours will be shorter than you think it will be.” Arthur said as he ushered us out of his office and we walked out of the packhouse into a clearing.
I stood in the center of the clearing as Ethan and his family placed the elements around me. I was about to slice my palm when a bright white light shone down on me from the moon. ‘It is the Moon Goddess she is giving us a blessing.’ Harmony said. No sooner did she finish speaking than another beam of light, green this time, shined on us. Followed by several more colored lights. I was being bathed in a rainbow of lights while Harmony said the gods were blessing us. I went to slice my palm when there was a crack of lightning and the pocket knife I was about to slice my palm with changed into a majestic looking dagger with rubies, diamonds, sapphires, and onyx on the handle. I looked around at everyone and they all had the same expression on their faces that I must have had. Shock and awe.
Taking a deep breath giving my thanks to the gods for their blessings and sliced my palm. The wind picked up and the fire from the candle blazed higher and brighter. The cup of water looked like there was a whirlpool in it. The ground started to shake a little, but not much. I started to feel really warm and tingly. I dropped the dagger as soon as I felt little pricks running up my arm. Then everything stopped. At first I didn’t think anything happened. I went to turn around to look at everyone when I realized they were shorter than me. I looked down at myself and I noticed that I was standing in a half shifted form. I started to freak out thinking we did something wrong. Shouldn’t I be on all fours?
Harmony laughed in my head and said, ‘We are a Lycan, we can shift in both states. This time however we only shifted into our true Lycan form. It is safer for the pups and is how all Royal Lycans shift the 1st time. Usually they would then shift into the full wolf form and run with their pack. However we cannot do that because of our pups. But we can run with Ethan and Dex like this now, but I think we should go rest. It has been a long day and our pups need us to have energy. Plus I want a taste of our mates’ Harmony said while wiggling her wolfy eyes at me.
Before I could respond to her there was another crack of lightning. The next thing I know Aries and the Moon Goddess are standing there. I immediately bow my head to them to show respect. They are both smiling at me. I see Aries snap his fingers and the dagger was in hand in a jeweled sheath. The next thing I know Aries disappears and then reappears with Ethan and the dagger is out again and he slices Ethans palm and again beams of light shine down on him and the next thing I know Ethan has also half shifted into a Lycan too. His shift just took a few seconds longer than mine. I looked at Aries in confusion.
“It is my gift to you granddaughter. Your mate will now be a Lycan as well as your pups and any of your descendents. You both will live longer now than a normal werewolf, though you will not live forever. That we cannot just do for any creature. Even Vampires die eventually.” Aries said to me. I lost all of my composure and threw my arms around him in a hug and I was surprised that he hugged me back. “Thank you,” I whispered to him. I felt him place a soft kiss on the top of my head. He stepped back from me and turned to Ethan. “You had better treat my granddaughter as the Queen she is meant to be. If you hurt her in any way you will feel my wrath. Do not take this gift I have given lightly. If it wasn’t for my granddaughter loving you I would leave you as a wolf so she would be your superior. I still don’t think you are good enough for her, which is why you aren’t as strong as she is, but only time will tell if I am wrong.’ Aries said sternly then turns to me one more time and his face softened. He places one last kiss on my forehead and then he hands me the dagger and then disappears. That is also my gift to you. It has been my faithful companion for millenia, and served me well. It is yours now granddaughter. Keep it on you at all times. It is spelled so you can make it a ring, necklace, or bracelet. If you ever need to use it just call for it either in your mind or out loud depending on the situation you find yourself in and it will appear in your hand.’ Aries said in my mind.
The Moon Goddess came up to me and Ethan and placed her palms on our foreheads. I felt a searing heat and a sharp pain in my head, but it was gone as soon as it happened. Then she placed both palms on my bump which seems to have grown some more since this evening. I felt a warmth on my belly and the next thing I know it has grown triple what it was. I looked at the Goddess in a panic. She just smiled at me and said, “Relax Beth. I didn’t harm them. I blessed them and unlocked their Lycan spirits. This is the best way to make them prepared for the future. The more connection they have with their Lycan counterpart the stronger they will be. Also I know for what is to come I needed to speed things along just a little bit. I think tomorrow would be a good time to see Marcy again.” Then she gave me a wink and then disappeared.
I looked at Ethan and he was staring wide eyed at me. I turned around to look at his family and they were still standing in awe before shaking their heads.
“Well that was quite something. I am kind of jealous now. That shift was wicked fast. Didn’t even see either of you flinch.” Jess said excitedly. I just smiled and shook my head at her.
“Jess was right. That was something to behold. It is late. I am sure we are all tired. Beth did you ask your mom what time she could be here in the morning?” Arthur asked.
“Yes she said she can come around 10 in the morning.” I answered him.
We all gathered up the items from the ground and walked back into the packhouse. While I was walking I looked at the dagger and decided that a ring would probably be the best bet for me. As soon as I thought that a bright ruby ring was placed on my index finger of my left hand.
Well it is beautiful. I will give it that. I was surprised at how light it felt on my hand. By the time Ethan and I made it into our room I was exhausted and ready for sleep. The next thing I know Harmony and Dex take over our bodies sending us to the back of our minds.
I watch out my eyes at what they plan on doing and I realize they are mating. I close my mental eyes quickly and try to put a block up but it is not working. It is so weird to see this. I feel like a creep watching. I decided that since Harmony doesn’t look to be relinquishing control any time soon I would try to get some sleep.
It was a few hours later that I felt myself being thrown back to the front of my mind. I opened my eyes and looked down and realized that our mischievous wolves have left us still connected. I was too tired to complain or care so I closed my eyes and fell right back to sleep.
