Ethan’s POV
As soon as that 1st beam of light shone down on Beth I knew she was receiving the blessing of the Moon. When other beams started shining down as well I was mesmerized by all the blessings she received from the gods. When the lightning cracked and a dagger appeared in her palm I knew it was from Ares, her long distant grandfather. As she sliced her palm, I half expected her to fall to the ground, writhing in pain. However, that was not the case.
She just stood there and dropped the dagger. In the next second her height was growing and fur was sprouting along her whole body. I was shocked to notice her clothes stretching with her and not tearing. In less than a few seconds Beth was fully shifted into her Lycan form.
She was beautiful with her full white coat of fur and a blue crescent moon on her forehead. Her vibrant violet eyes I could get lost in. I wonder why she didn’t shift fully as well. ‘It is to protect the pups. If she fully shifted she could harm them. Plus Harmony said that this is the way of a royal Lycan shift.’ Dex had told me.
After another crack of lightning the Moon Goddess and who I assume to be Ares appeared in front of Beth. She bowed her head to them in respect, my family and I following suit. Ares snapped his fingers and the dagger was in his hand in a beautifully crafted sheath. Then he disappears and appears in front of me. He grabbed my hand and before I knew it he had sliced my palm. I felt a searing heat hit me and I felt myself also shifting. I was freaking out a little until Dex said, ‘ Calm down human. We have just been given a great blessing from Ares. We are like our mates now. He made us Lycan too.’
I did not miss the pride in his voice at receiving this blessing. My shift was about ten seconds longer than Beth’s was. Ares apparently didn’t like me much because he didn’t think I was worthy of her. I happened to agree with him, but I was willing to work the rest of my life to achieve that honor.
When the Moon Goddess placed her palm on our heads she sent me a mind link ‘Ethan you have been given a great gift do not waste it. I wanted to let you know as your mate learns more of who she is you will be asked to do something that will fight against your nature, but if you truly loved your mate and wanted nothing but her happiness you won’t stand in the way or in front of her, but beside her and embrace the new people in her life with open arms. It is not just her destiny but yours as well.
How you deal with these new challenges can also affect the future of your daughter. She is just as special as her mamma. Heed my warning young man. You can make or break the future happiness of your mate and daughter.’
She removed her palms and then placed them on Beth’s stomach right where the pups were and before my eyes Beth’s stomach grew larger. With her parting words I sent a link to Marcy about having her see Beth in the morning. We all gathered the supplies that we had brought with us to the clearing and went to our own rooms. As soon as Beth and I reached our room Dex took over and he and Harmony spent the next several hours mating. As I awoke in the morning I felt immense pleasure. I opened my eyes to see my beautiful mate grinding her hips slowly taking advantage of my morning predicament. I was in heaven.
After we both moaned our completion we took a shower to clean up. As we were getting dressed I noticed Beth was having a hard time trying to find something that she could wear that would fit over her rounded baby bump that looks more like she swallowed a watermelon in one go. I was even more determined to have Marcy look at Beth this morning. A knock sounding at the door took me out of my thoughts and I went to answer it. My mom was there with a few bags of clothes.
“I thought that with what the Moon Goddess had done that Beth would need some new clothes. I didn’t think she wanted to walk around in your things all day even though you would have enjoyed it.” My mother said with a laugh. She walked into the room and placed the bags of clothes on the bed. Beth had just walked out of the closet in her towel still in tears.
“Oh sweetheart. What is wrong?” My mother said as she rushed to my mate to embrace her before even I could register that she was crying.
“No..noth….nothing fi..fit…fits m.m.m.me!” Beth wailed.
“Oh honey. It’s ok. That means you are doing a good job and your pups are growing big and strong. Here I brought you some clothes. I figured you would need some after last night.” My mother quickly said and my eyes were round in shock at how quickly Beth’s tears dried and a smile came to her face as she rushed to the bed and bags squealing in delight as she found several maternity dresses. I just stood there speechless. I just witnessed my mate go from happy to crying to happy all in the span of a few minutes. I am starting to secretly thank the Moon Goddess for speeding things along a little bit with the pregnancy.
My mother left the room after she gave me a kiss on my cheek. Beth came out of the closet in her new clothes and the smile that graced her lips took my breath away. She was so beautiful and I was thankful everyday I have her that the goddess saw fit to bless me with her as my mate. I couldn’t help but think about the warning I was given last night. I would never stand in the way of Beth’s happiness. I gave my head a small shake to remove those thoughts and walked over to my mate. I gave her a chaste kiss on the lips and then crouched down in front of her stomach and said good morning to my pups and gave her stomach three kisses, one for each pup.
I stood up and laced my fingers with Beths as we made our way to the dining hall. This was going to be a very important breakfast for the pack. Father had sent out a packwide link asking for all members to have at least one member attend the morning breakfast meeting. The dining hall was not large enough to house all the wolves in the pack at once. So as long as one member from each family was in attendance then they can have their individual family links open so everyone can hear what the meeting is about. We are announcing Beth as my mate and Luna now that she has completed her first shift and can at least protect herself in case of any challenges.
We entered the dining hall and headed straight for our table. I could hear a few whispers of confusion about the size difference of Beth’s stomach. After I made sure Beth was comfortable at the table I set about grabbing our plates. I made sure to pile both plates to overflowing. I knew she could eat them both and I puffed my chest out in pride thinking about how that means my pups are growing strong.
As I was making my way back to the table my beta, Eric, came up beside me and asked, “Hey man what is up with the Luna’s baby bump. It was barely there last night and now she looks as if she doubled in size!”
“It was a blessing from the Moon Goddess. You will find out more in a few minutes. We are having a meeting with breakfast to explain a few things to everyone.” I answered him.
He nodded to me in response and took his seat at the table. I placed the plates in front of mine and Beth’s spots and she dug right into her meal. “Mmmmm this is so good. Do we have any mayonnaise? That would make these scrambled eggs taste so good and some chocolate syrup.” Beth asked in excitement. I really hope we don’t have those things, but before my thought could even be finished one of the kitchen omegas had brought out the items Beth had requested. I looked over to my parents and my father has the same look that I imagine that I have displayed on mine, pure disgust, however, my mother is sitting there just smirking at me. I knew right then that she is the one who linked the omega to bring them out here from the kitchen.
“Oh. Thank you so much.” Beth said to the omega and she proceeded to doctor up her food. It took everything I had to not lose everything that I had just eaten.
“On that note. I think I will get this meeting started.” My father quickly stood up and walked to the front of the dining hall on the little stage that we have for the breakfast and dinner meetings. I quickly followed him. I love Beth but I could not sit there and watch her eat that monstrosity concoction she called food.
“Attention everyone!” My father boomed in his Alpha tone. Everyone in the dining hall stopped talking and turned their attention to us. As soon as he had the undivided attention of everyone he was about to start speaking when we heard an audible moan from beside us and I noticed the red face of my mate as everyone turned to look at her. She was looking around wide eyed and swallowed her food in one gulp and hid her face behind her hands. My father and I chuckled at her antics.
“Now that I have your attention.” My father says with a laugh as he sends a wink to Beth which makes her hide her face again then continues, “I have a very important announcement as I am sure you all know by now that my son and your future Alpha Ethan has found his mate.” My father paused as the room cheered and then continued after they quieted down after he put his hands in the air to signal them to quiet, “Beth come on up here please.”
Beth was nervous I could tell, but she took a deep breath and squared her shoulders after a quick noticeable pep talk with Harmony. I walked down the few steps of the stage to help Beth up. I didn’t want her to trip and hurt herself or the pups. As soon as we were standing beside my father I placed my hand on her waist and my other on her baby bump.
“You can see they are already expecting the next heir to the pack. Now I know that most of you youngsters know that Beth had just moved here before the start of the school year and you know that she was human. The rest of you noticed the change in the baby bump.
I would like to correct a few things as rumors have been spreading about Beth and the state of her bump.” My father’s eyes cut to the table that Ashley and her bratty friends sat and I noticed their heads bow down so as not to make eye contact with their Alpha.
“Last night my family and I witnessed something that no one has seen in over a thousand years. The shift of a Lycan.”
There were gasps and murmurs going all around at this revelation. I stood there with my chest puffed up in pride until I heard a snotty voice that said, “Impossible. Lycans are a myth. There is no such thing. That is just a bedtime story parents tell their pups.”
I turned my head to see who was speaking and to no surprise it was Ashley’s mom, Nancy. She is just as bad as her daughters. I know she had tried to cause problems between my parents in the past before she found her own mate.
Dex and I couldn’t help ourselves as we both shifted into our Lycan form. There were even more gasps going around now. I looked into Nancy’s eyes and said, “Lycan’s are no longer a myth. My mate is the descendant of the very 1st Lycan. A direct descendant of Ares the God of War. If I were you I would shut your mouth and be more respectful to your Alpha.”
