After being duly chastened Nancy sat down with fear in her eyes but that was quickly replaced with determination for what I have no clue but I know I need to keep an eye on her. I was brought out of my thoughts by none other than Ashely speaking now, “Just because you are a Lycan somehow that does not mean that she is. I have smelled her scent. We all have. She is a lowly human. There is no way she could be everything you said. And look at her stomach. It is so huge there is no way that is your pup. She is disgusting and should not be Luna. She isn’t pure and already carrying someone else’s spawn, not the future leader of the pack.” She finished with a look of triumph as others began to whisper agreeing with her. I was about to let out a loud growl but before I could I heard the most powerful growl I have ever heard come from my mate. It was so powerful it put everyone in the room down to their knees including Ashley. The aura pouring from my mate is stronger than any Alpha aura I have ever felt. So strong that the weaker wolves of the pack were whimpering and laying flat on the floor on their stomachs baring their necks in submission. Even my father was on his knees looking at Beth in awe and pride.
As Beth marched over to Ashley I noticed it was Harmony as she was reigning in her aura so that it only affected Ashley’s table. She stood in front of Ashley and got into her face as she shifted it slightly revealing her elongated snout and sharp teeth. She snarled in Ashley’s face as she said, “If I were you I would take a good long look and sniff and tell us again that I am a lowly human. Whether I am a wolf, Lycan, human, witch, or vampire it shouldn’t matter because I AM WHO THE MOON GODDESS CHOSE AS ETHAN’S MATE. NOT YOU. SO SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP BEFORE YOU MAKE ME ANGRY!”
As she turned around to walk back to me Harmony relinquished control back to Beth and her face was back to normal. Before she could even take two steps Ashley lunged at her. I ran to try to protect her, but before I got there Beth turned around and had the dagger from last night at Ashley’s throat and warned her one last time, “I see the day they were giving out brains you decided to only take half of what they offered. This is your last warning. You come at me again I will not think twice before I slit your throat. Attacking me is like attacking my children. I will protect my children at all costs. As punishment you will not shift for one month. See how it is to live as a human.” Out of nowhere a silver bracelet appeared on Ashley’s wrist. It was covered in cloth so it couldn’t burn her but it was enough to halt her being able to access her wolf. Then the dagger disappeared from her hand and the ruby ring was back on her index finger.
Beth came back up to me and I pulled her into a hug. Is it wrong that the whole interaction had made me so hot for my mate. My pants were becoming quite uncomfortable. My father nodded at Beth and turned back to the crowd of shocked pack members. They were all looking at Beth. Some in awe, some in fear, and some in pride. Those who were fearful of her started to shout that she was dangerous and should not be allowed in the pack; others were saying that she should be banished. There was a noticeable divide in the pack. Before my father could get the crowd to quiet down again we heard a snap of lightning and Ares stood before the crowd.
His booming voice made the crowd quieten down as he spoke to them, “If I were you I would be thankful that I am allowing my granddaughter to even reside in this pack and realm with you. Some of you don’t even deserve the protection that she will provide for this pack.” He pointedly looked at Nancy and Ashley then continued, “She is a Queen by birth and you are lucky to have her as your future Luna. As for her children they have more worth in their little tiny toes than many of you have in your whole being. So be grateful you are even receiving this blessing of a woman in your pack and as your future Luna.” He turned to Beth and gave her a hug and a small peck on her forehead before he disappeared again with yet another clap of lightning. For being the God of War he sure as hell does love using lightning to make an entrance. After Ares departure the crowd was quiet and calm. My father continued on the meeting, “Now that we have that mess cleared up I would like to say a few words. I am totally and completely ashamed of how some of my pack members have behaved. I was under the impression that we were a progressive pack and we were open to all beings. Beth is an innocent and you wanted to banish a pregnant female to the rogues because of what? Defending herself from a pack member who quite literally attacked her as her back was turned. One month of no shifting was a show of mercy. I would have killed her for her blatant attack on a ranked member of this pack. Ashley is lucky that Beth decided her punishment. Now I..” My father began to say something else when Beth laid her hand on his arm to get his attention.
“May I say something Arthur?” Beth asked quietly in her angelic voice. My father smiled at her and motioned for her to take the floor. “Hello everyone. I know it is scary to face the unknown. Trust me I know that more than anyone. All my life I have thought I was just a normal human girl. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would become a part of the supernatural world, let alone be a Lycan. I didn’t know that I would meet the other half of my soul. I was human. We don’t get soulmates as the supernaturals do. It was a shock when it happened to me. It was also a shock to find out everything I have about my family. I didn’t know that I was the granddaughter of a god either. I am discovering new things every day and I hope that you all will come on this journey of discovery of the unknown with me. I really could use the company.” Beth ended on a giggle with the rest of the pack laughing with her.
It was amazing. Ares’ speech made them afraid, my father’s speech made them ashamed, but Beth’s made them fall in love with her. I could see it was happening as she talked. It was like she could calm the hearts of everyone and bring them peace with just a few words.
“Very well said my dear. I think we will end the meeting here. I hope you have all learned a valuable lesson today. We are a pack and we are all a family. Let’s remember that next time shall we.” My mother spoke up beside my father in her sweet but stern motherly voice. I wasn’t even sure when she came up on the stage.
As we all left the stage the crowd erupted into chatter. This time however it was all excited comments about how powerful their future Luna was. I was glad that we were able to calm their fears down about the Lycan bombshell we threw at them. Noticing the time we all headed out of the dining hall and everyone but Beth and I made their way to my father’s office. We were going to wait out front for Beth’s mom who should be here any minute.
We weren’t waiting long when we saw her car come up the driveway. We could see the shock on her face as she saw Beth and the progress of her baby bump. “Oh my goodness. How on earth did they grow so fast?” Erica said in shock.
We explained everything that happened last night to Erica as we made our way to my father’s office, and she took it all in stride. She was shocked to say the least but she accepted it and moved on. As we entered the office I noticed that my father opened up the connecting door into the conference room and everyone was seated around the table.
“Martha! Oh my god. Is that you, Martha Moore?” Erica said in shock. My mother on the other hand stood up and ran to Erica and gave her a bone crushing hug.
“It’s Smith now. My word, Erica McCullough. You are still the beauty of everyone in the room aside from your daughter. How long has it been? Nearly 20 years I think.” Mom said.
“I think you are right. Thanks for making me feel old!” Erica laughed.
My father was looking between the two of them in confusion like the rest of us. My mother turned to my father and said, Remember the girl I told you about. That was like my sister. We did everything together while we were growing up. I could tell so many stories of the mischief she got us in.”
“You lie! It was always you Marty that got us into those messes. I swore that one time you convinced me to put food coloring in your brother’s hair shampoo and we ended up coloring the Alpha’s hair instead. I thought that we were both going to be skinned alive. You used me as your scapegoat. They can’t punish the human you always said. Can’t punish the human my behind! Your father told mine and I was grounded for a MONTH!” Erica laughed.
“Well in our defense my father should never had used my brother’s shampoo then he wouldn’t have had green hair for a week. It was his own damn fault.” My mom replied.
They hugged each other again and sat beside each other chattering away a bit as we all got settled in our seats. I noticed that one of the chairs was different. It looked so comfortable and cushy. Jess was about to sit in it when Mother stopped her.
“Jessica Smith don’t you dare take that seat. Don’t you have any manners. I had Duncan bring that in specifically for Beth. You wouldn’t believe how uncomfortable it is to have to sit in these hard chairs for a pregnant woman,” said my mother.
“My bad. No need to bite my head off mother,” Jess replied jokingly.
I helped Beth sit down and made sure she was comfortable. I noticed there were little bowls of fruit on the table and some bottles of water. My mother slid a bowl of fruit to Beth as she noticed she was looking at it while licking her lips. My mother smirked when she also pushed a bowl of peanut butter with a spoon in it towards Beth as well, and that is when I realized the bowl of fruit was pineapple. I looked at my mom in horror and again she met my look with a smirk. Erica and my mother then burst out laughing as they saw how green my face got when Beth started to spoon all of the peanut butter into her pineapple dish.
“Ok. Can we get this started before we all have to run to the bathroom to puke after watching Beth eat that gross concoction she calls a snack?” Jess said. We all laughed at Beth’s offended face.
“You should try it. It is soooo good. You don’t know what you are missing,” Beth said.
“Yes. Let’s get started. I do believe Marcy is waiting until after the meeting to give Beth her checkup as the goddess suggested. Duncan you are up first. What have you found about Beth’s father and the little conundrum I told you about?” “Well Alpha this is what I found out,” Duncan said.
