Ethan’s POV
Thanks Moon Goddess. I appreciate the warning! How am I going to share my mate with a bloodsucker? How am I supposed to share my mate period! It is unnatural for a wolf to share his mate. What were the fates thinking? Stop your whining human. At least we still have our mate. So we have to share her with the bloodsucker. It doesn’t mean Beth loves us less. If our mate has more than one mate it means she has more protection and I don’t know about you but that makes me feel better especially with all the warnings we have been given from the gods. This bloodsucker is also part of her soul so suck it up buttercup cause he is here to stay. Especially if the way our mate’s arousal spiked up when he was talking to her and she was talking to him is any indication. Dex so kindly had to butt in to my internal rant.
I can’t deny that I didn’t smell it. I know I did. I was just hoping to stay blissfully ignorant of it until my asshole wolf had to bring it to light. Why can’t he ever be on my side with this kind of stuff? I am on your side, dummy. I am just trying to make you see that our mate wants this as much as the gods wanted it to happen. Just look at her smiling and quietly talking to him. She’s blushing. I let out a frustrated sigh because he is right. She looks happy with him over there. Guess I better just suck it up like Dex said. I don’t want to lose my mate and I don’t want to mess things up for my daughter when she is older either like the goddess had warned me.
I walk up to them and place one of my hands on Beth’s waist and stick the other out to shake the bloodsuckers hand. He has a name you know. Alexi. Go ahead. Try it out. Al-ex-i. Dex interrupted again. “Hi. We didn’t get to formally introduce ourselves earlier. I am Ethan. Apparently I am only one of Beth’s mates.”
Surprisingly he shook my hand and smiled at me. Then he responded, “Hi Ethan, I am Alexi, also one of Beth’s mates. It is nice to meet you. I think we should all go have a sit somewhere so that we can all talk and get to know each other. I know this is not a common situation in wolf packs, however in vampire society it is not unheard of.”
“Sitting does sound nice. These pups are growing so fast and they are moving so much.” Beth said. I went to rub her belly to feel the pups move and Alexi must have had the same thought because he put his hand on the other side of Beth’s bump. The look of awe on his face was definitely not what I had expected. Not many males would even tolerate their mate having a child with another male let alone act as if it were theirs. I just gained a little respect for this bloodsucker. Sadly that just depresses me some. He seems too nice to not like.
We are walking up to our private sitting area on the Alpha floor when Beth makes a beeline for the nearest bathroom. I just laugh and say, “Get used to that. She does that a lot.”
“I can imagine that the baby is laying on her bladder. She is amazing to be creating life and acting as if it is nothing.” Alexi said.
“Three.” I say in response. He just looks at me a little oddly so I explain, “There are three pups in there. She is growing three lives right now and making it look like nothing at all.”
His shock is definitely understandable. I was shocked the first time I found out too. I at least have had a little more time to take it all in.
“So you two have been together for a while. I take it.” Alexi asked.
“Nope. We have been together for maybe a week.” I had to think a moment before I finished, “Yeah I would say roughly a week.”
“So she was pregnant already before you met?” Alexi said as his eyes looked as if they would pop out of his sockets. “Yes, but I will let Beth explain that. It is her story to tell but it is a very traumatic experience for her to retell it.” I warned him. Just then Beth came out of the bathroom and he gave me a slight imperceptible nod. As we all get settled onto the couch in the sitting room Beth decides to start the conversation.
“Ok. So I am just going to explain everything about my life right now so that you can make an informed decision before you decide whether you will accept me as a mate or not.” Beth looked a little sad after she said that. I hope for her sake he doesn’t judge her for what happened in the past. “So I grew up bouncing between my mom and dad’s houses because they weren’t together when I was growing up. My life was wonderful when I was with my mom, but not so much with my dad. He didn’t treat me like I was a person let alone his daughter. My step-sister, who actually is my half-sister, was treated like a princess. I was the first born or so I thought and my father had always wanted a son. He was disappointed that I wasn’t one I guess. Anyway, my mom got a new job here and she was moving across the country from my father so I had to make a choice. Stay with my dad or come with my mom. I chose my mom. The last week before Mom and I were coming here I was walking home from my after school job and I was attacked.” Beth stopped for a moment to collect herself.
“I was going through the park by my fathers house because it was a shortcut. I still had some packing to do and I wanted to get some of it done before I did my school work. When I was about halfway through the park I was tackled. I can’t remember exactly everything that happened, but I know I was raped and my attacker said that he wasn’t done with me when he got chased off by a bunch of dogs, which now that I think about it it might have been wolves.” Alexi was angry. I don’t know him well but even I could tell he was angry. His fists and jaw were clenched so tight I was afraid he would hurt himself. “That was the worst night of my life. Not only did that happen but everyone I thought that cared for me turned their backs on me except for my mother. My father called me a w***e and said that I disgusted him. I left that night after I called my mom and I haven’t spoken to him since.” Beth said with a sob.
I was going to pull her into a hug, but Alexi beat me to it. He grabbed her in his arms and put her head to his chest to let her cry as he tried to soothe her. “Shhh darling. It’s ok. No one will ever hurt you again. Ethan and I will make sure of that princess. Let it all out. You’re safe now. We’ve got you.” Alexi said. I was surprised he included me in that. I guess he accepted this fate as I have. Beth calmed down after about ten minutes.
“I’m sorry. I stained your shirt with my tears.” Beth said in an almost panicked voice.
“It’s ok darling. It is just a shirt. You are more important than this shirt. If you thought that story was going to turn me away from you then you are wrong. I am assuming your pregnancy is a result of that attack?” Alexi asked.
“Well technically they were, but not anymore. We did an offspring claiming ritual so the pups have my DNA instead of the other male.” I quickly jumped in to explain so Beth didn’t have to.
Alexi nodded and said, “Good, then that bastard can have no claim whatsoever on our children.”
I was surprised with how quick he accepted our pups as his and I was equally surprised that neither my wolf or I have any type of aggression towards him about it either. Maybe this won’t be as hard as I thought it would be.
“So you accept me. Even though I am carrying another man’s children?” Beth asks with big wide innocent looking eyes. I just wanted to gather her in my arms and protect her innocent nature.
