I think about this proposition and then ask, “What do you get if I kill the future luna?”
She smirks and says, “I get to comfort the future alpha after she is dead and gone. Then he will be mine after he sees how much I care for him by helping him in his hour of need.” She has an air of confidence that I don’t know whether to admire or feel shame on her behalf for her delusions. Though what does it matter to me what happens to her. I get a small piece of revenge knowing that I took from them like they took from me all those years ago.
“You have a deal Ms.?” I say as I hold my hand out waiting to hear her name.
“Ashley and this is my sister Alicia.” She says as she shakes my hand.
“Now let’s talk about what you are going to do for me so that we can both get what we want.” I say to her and we work up a perfect plan to get rid of this girl.
Alexi POV
As Ethan and I finish up with the rogues in the house that didn’t run away in retreat I think back to earlier when we had finished fighting the rogues at the borders. When Roman told me that he left Beth alone in the kitchen with a dozen rogues to save a child I felt my heart break and then immense anger took over as I ran to the house as fast as I could. I had linked Ethan to tell him and he was hot on my heels. As we entered the kitchen I released the breath that I had been holding when I saw that Beth was still standing in the kitchen looking like a sexy warrior princess goddess. I held in a chuckle as I saw her wielding a butchers knife and a frying pan like you would see one holding a sword and shield.
I watched as a rogue attacked my beloved and her stop it with her frying pan and before the rogue could make another attack Ethan let out a vicious growl and I let out a vicious snarl. We both leapt at them and started to disband the group as I watched out of the corner of my eye Roman grab Beth out of the kitchen. I called out to him to take her to the infirmary because I noticed the blood on her back and the teeth marks on her calf. I was furious and I let my anger take over and I destroyed the rogues I could get my hands on. I let my beast out to play and he annihilated them within seconds. The moment he placed his hands on the beasts he dug his claws in as far as he could before he sunk his fangs in their neck to rip out their throats without even giving them a moment to register what was happening to them. As I was destroying the enemy I saw a few of the rogues retreat thinking better of messing with two very pissed off mates.
When the last rogue was dispatched Ethan and I turned to each other and surveyed the surroundings of the kitchen and I flinched when I saw that an arm from a wolf who had shifted back after his death was sticking out of a pot that was on the stove still boiling. I would never be able to unsee that, I thought to myself. After we both finally caught our breath we decided we needed to go see our mate, but before we could get too far Ethan’s mother somehow appeared before us yelling at us to go clean ourselves up before we scared our mate at the sight of us. I looked at Ethan and if I looked anything like him right now then we would definitely scare our Beth and the last thing she needs right now is to have more stress on her body with a scare.
We both rushed upstairs and Ethan pointed me to a room I could use and said that I could go into his room after to grab some clothes if I didn’t want to track down my luggage at the moment. I agreed and took the quickest shower of my life. I didn’t give myself time to relax. I washed all the blood and gore off of me and waited until I saw the water run clean then I soaped myself up for the last time to make sure it was all gone and then rushed out of the shower drying myself. I marched into Ethan’s room and I could smell Beth’s scent permeate the whole room. I saw Ethan coming out of the bathroom at the same time as I closed the door. He noticed me and nodded his head towards a door that I assumed was the closet. He grabbed out a pair of sweats and a black shirt and handed them to me. I quickly got dressed as he dressed into something similar.
When we were done we didn’t even worry about footwear and ran to the infirmary. I saw Roman pacing around in the waiting room and before I knew what I was doing I was punching him in the jaw screaming at him, “This is all your fault. You left her there all alone. What would have happened if we hadn’t gotten there in time. You better pray that she and those babies are ok. Because if she is not or if she loses our children then I will kill you. King or not I do not care. You did this to her by leaving her alone in a battle.” I was breathless when I was pulled away by Ethan and Dimitri.
“Alexi I’m..” I interrupted Roman before he could finish what he was going to say.
“Save it. I don’t want to hear anything from you until after I know my beloved and children are safe.” I turned away from him and paced in my own corner of the room. Ethan went to ask if there was any information about Beth or the babies. Dimitri came to sit beside me after I finally sat down. I hate not knowing what is going on right now. I hope Ethan can get something from them. I look toward Dimitri and he gives me a slight nod to let me know that he is here for me. I am thankful for my brother. He knows that I am not in the mood to talk to anyone so he is just silently sitting there so that I know that I can lean on him if I need to.
I watch as a frantic Erica runs into the waiting room and runs straight into Dimitri’s arms. I can hear her sobbing and I can’t bear it. I stand up again and start to pace. Before I could make a full circuit of my new pacing route Ethan comes running in with his face white as a sheet. I rush up to him and grab him by the shoulders. I can feel in our bond that something is wrong and he breaks down and starts to cry. My heart breaks thinking the worst when I see a stretcher being carried into another surgery room and notice that Alpha Arthur is on the stretcher with large gashes across his torso that are seeping blood faster than they can stop it.
I bring him into a hug and just let him let it out. I could only imagine how he is feeling right now. Not only is his mate and pups in surgery but now so is his father. I bring him over to the chairs and we sit and wait for any news about our loved ones.
We were waiting for a few hours and the waiting room started to fill up with people. Ethan’s mom and sister showed up and sat on either side of him and they were in a group family hug and have been that way for the last hour. Dimitri was sitting in a chair a few over from Ethan and his family with Erica and she had fallen asleep crying into his chest.
Roman stood still as a statue leaning against the wall just staring at the door that has Beth behind it. After a few minutes of me watching Roman he stands up straighter and before anyone can say anything he runs into the room with Beth, and that is when I hear it.
The heart monitor is just playing a continuous sound. I run to the door and my worst nightmares are playing before my eyes. On the monitor, I see a flat line and before I can see anything else, my world goes black with a pain in the back of my head.
