She looked conflicted. I could see she was running different scenarios in her mind and as she was distracted I took that opportunity to pounce and placed the cuffs on her with relative ease. At the same time I could hear a scuffle further into the home. Presumably towards the back of the house. In minutes the other guards were marching through the house with Damphere. I was pleased that we were able to apprehend the couple with little trouble.
As I passed the woman off to one of the guards I decided to search the house to see if I could find any more servants to assess their condition and see if anyone needed any help. By the time I finished searching the house I was disgusted by what I found. There were very few servants walking around freely. I did find a basement of sorts that should be better classified as a dungeon or torture room. It put the dungeon King Roman had to shame and that is saying something. I found several dead humans on some mideval torture devices such as the rack and the iron maiden. I was appalled by the state of some of them. It seems they enjoyed inflicting pain onto others. I found a caged area with over 30 people crammed in it. I had the guards call in help for these people. As I was helping settle some of the people out of the cage I noticed a small boy sitting in the corner still not wanting to leave a woman who was lying face down.
As I approached I noticed that the woman wasn’t moving and the stench of death was permeating the air. Upon further inspection I could tell this was the boy’s mother, but what shocked me the most is that she was a wolf. I squatted down by the child and was as gentle as I could as I picked him up. He started to fight with me and scream saying, “No scawy vamp man. Weave me awone. No!”
“Shh little man. I am not a vampire. I am a wolf. See?” I allowed some of my fur to come out of my skin as I did a partial shift. Seeing that he calmed down completely and grabbed me in a tight grip and started to cry about his mom and how she wouldn’t wake up for days now. I learned that his name was Link and he was 4 years old. He has always lived in the cage and has never been outside. My heart broke for him.
After ensuring that the guards had everything else under control I personally took Link to the hospital to have him checked out. I stayed with him partially because I wanted to and the other was because he wouldn’t let me go. He refused to let any vampire near him. He was deathly afraid of them which I couldn’t blame him after the things I saw. I could only imagine what he had witnessed in his short 4 years of life. Not to mention he basically was snuggled up to his dead mother for days.
By the time the doctors were able to check him over I was surprised to learn that he was fine other than being dehydrated and severely underfed. The doctor said that he should be fine after receiving some fluids and vitamins through IV as long as he has a continuous steady diet. Before the doctor would release him he wanted to speak with me privately. We waited until Link was asleep from the medication he was given to help him relax. I stepped out of the room, but not very far. Dex wouldn’t let me. For some reason Dex was being very protective of the pup.
“Lord Ethan, I did a blood test on the child and everything is ok other than the obvious malnutrition, but what concerns me is that he is a hybrid. You said that his mother was a wolf?” The doctor asked.
“Yes, she was dead when we arrived. What do you mean he is a hybrid? Is that a reason to be concerned?” I asked, not understanding what the difference was, if he was a full wolf or not. I was starting to get angry at the way the doctor spoke of him being a hybrid like it was repulsive.
“Then that would mean his father was a vampire. We need to notify him immediately so that he can take care of his problem.” The doctor said.
“What problem is it that the father needs to take care of exactly?” I was fuming if he meant what I thought he did. This was not one of the doctors that I had met when Beth was here not long ago, and I am glad he didn’t see Beth with the way he is acting.
“The boy needs to be neutralized. We cannot be halving a halfbreed abomination running around. It would cause chaos. I am sure you wolves feel the same way of tainting your bloodlines.” The doctor said with a distinct hatred for mixed species. I was furious because what would he say about Beth and our pups? Beth was a lycan, vampire, and a witch.
“I am appalled by what you are suggesting sir. I want a new doctor. I will tell the King about what you are suggesting to do to this poor defenseless child. I pray that the gods do NOT take mercy on your soul. You disgust me.” I said and motioned to one of the two guards who accompanied me with Link to the hospital. They both came over and had stern expressions on their faces. I said to them, “Please escort this doctor to his office and don’t let him leave. I need the other to please fetch King Roman. I need to speak with him but I can’t leave the boy. Not after what I just heard.”
“We heard everything, my lord. Please allow me to escort him to his office. I will make sure he doesn’t leave by any means necessary. I may want to neutralize him because he is a speciesist dickhead.” One of the guards said. I nodded as he grabbed the doctor roughly taking him to the man’s office.
“I will get King Roman. We do not feel that way. I can’t believe we have a doctor on staff who is like that. I thought all doctors were supposed to care about every life without discrimination, but I guess not.” The other guard who I found out was named Oscar.
I thanked him and returned back to the room with Link. Dex was going crazy in my mind wanting to kill the doctor for what he had suggested. ‘Let me out Ethan. He needs to feel my wrath. No one is going to neutralize my pup.’ I stopped midstep as I heard Dex call the boy our pup.
‘What do you mean by our pup Dex. You know we have not been intimate with any woman besides Beth. There is no way that pup is mine.’ I said to him.
‘You feel just as protective of the pup and you know it. He is ours now. We will love him and take care of him. He needs us. Beth and Harmony would agree.’ Dex said back to me.
I couldn’t deny what he was saying, but we already have three pups on the way. ‘We’ll talk about this later. Right now we need to worry about his health and talking to Roman about what his doctor wanted to do. Then we need to check on our mates.’ I replied to Dex.
He just huffed in my mind and laid down keeping his eyes on Link. He was sleeping peacefully and I was glad he wasn’t awake to hear what that bastard had said. I sat in the chair by his bed and waited for Roman. It didn’t take long before Roman, Alexander, and Sandra came into the room.
I stood up and motioned them out the door. I didn’t want Link to hear what I was going to say. Once outside I turned on Roman, “Do you have any idea the kind of doctors that you employ here. He wanted to find that boy’s vampire father to have him ‘neutralize’ him because he was a halfbreed abomination and he was tainting the vampire bloodlines. The boy is no more than 4 years old and was in a cage his whole life, and his mother died in front of him and the poor pup thought she was just sleeping. The poor woman’s body was rotting already when I found the cage.” By the time I was finished I realized I had half shifted and Dex was at the surface with me.
The three people in front of me looked appalled by what I had just said. Roman was pissed. I could see it in his face as he realized the severity of the situation. “Where is the doctor Ethan? I would like to have a few personal words with him.” Roman said with clear anger in his voice.
“I had one of the guards escort him to his office and stand guard until I could speak with you. I was not going to let him anywhere near my pup after what…” I said and then stopped short. Did I really just call that pup mine? My gods. How am I going to explain this to Beth and Alexi that I basically just claimed this pup as ours.
The three people in front of me had curiosity written in their features until Sandra said, “Sometimes the gods give us what we need when we don’t even realize it ourselves. Obviously you were sent to find this boy and the boy you. It is what the fates have decided and I am sure Beth and Alexi would welcome him with open arms especially after what they have both been through.”
I thought over what she said and then I yelled out loud, “Ares you son of a b***h. You knew this was going to happen didn’t you?”
We heard a deep belly laugh coming from all around us and then Ares popped in beside me. “It took you long enough to figure that out. It seems the women are still the smart ones of this bunch. Yes, I guided you to find the boy. I knew he needed someone and I also knew that Beth would need him to help lessen the loss of her mother. Alexi too for his brother. This boy has a destiny all his own and with the love and guidance you three will give him he will succeed. Congrats you’re a dad before your pups are actually born.” Ares smacks me on the back and I almost fall flat on my face by the force of it.
Before I could straighten myself up, Ares was gone.
“I swear to the gods I am really starting to dislike how he pops up and disappears in the blink of an eye before the conversation is even done.” I said in frustration as the other three just laughed at me.
‘Ethan? Where are you?’ I heard Beth in our mindlink.
‘I am at the hospital baby. Are you ok? That was a dumb question. I am sorry. Can I get you anything?’ I said back to her.
‘Ares was just here and said that Alexi and I needed to find you. Are you hurt? Why are you at the hospital? We are on our way.’ Beth said and before I could say anything else she cut off the link.
“Well it looks like our godly pest has visited with Alexi and Beth and now they are on their way to the hospital.” I said and the other three just laughed at how I described Ares. Out of nowhere I felt a smack to the back of my head and turned around quickly to see where it came from but no one was there.
“That is for calling me a pest you ball of fluff,” We heard Ares voice in the air.
I scowled as I rubbed the back of my head as the others had a good laugh at me.
