Over my dead body,” Alexi and Beth said simultaneously. Beth didn’t understand why but hearing Ethan speak about the poor boy made her want to take the pup in her arms and hold him and protect him forever. She pushed her way through everyone and headed straight to the room where she felt a pull. As she entered the room and glanced at the small child in the bed her heart ached. He was so little and he looked like a little angel as he slept in the big hospital bed. She approached the bed and as she got closer she noticed his eyes were fluttering open. She gave the boy a soft smile as he was looking up at her. In her mind she could feel Harmony coming closer and watching the boy too with affection. ‘He’s ours now to protect Beth. I can feel it can’t you? He needs us as his mommy now and we need him as well.’ expressing Beth’s feelings as well.
“Hi little one. Are you feeling better now?” Beth asked him in a sweet voice only mother’s could pull off.
Harmony said,
He looked up at her with curious eyes and he nodded his head then said, “Are you an angel? My mama awways told me that an angel would come and save me one day when she gone.” The boy started to sniffle a little bit, but continued, “She’s gone now isn’t she? That’s why you here right?”
Beth didn’t know what to say right away but she took a seat on the bed and placed her hand on his cheek as she gathered her thoughts. She finally said, “My sweet boy I am not an angel, but I will always be here to protect you from now on. I’m sorry but your mama is gone. She is with the moon goddess now and watching over you from the moon and stars just like my mama is watching down on me.”
He looked at her with wide eyes. He surprised Beth by lunging at her and wrapping his little arms around her and giving her a tight embrace. Beth quickly put her arms around him and felt him slump a little in her arms. She looked down to notice that he was lying his head down on her belly and he started to giggle as she felt her babies move around her tummy. She couldn’t help but smile at him. After a few minutes he pulled away and looked at her in a different way than before.
“Timbwer says you my mommy now. He says his mommy told him so.” Link said to her with hope in his eyes.
Beth was momentarily taken aback until Harmony said that Timber was his wolf. Beth smiled down at him and said, ” Would you like that little one? For me to be your mommy now?”
He nodded his head up and down so fast Beth was afraid he would hurt himself. She smiled at him and said, “Well then I will be your mommy. Do you know that you have two daddies then?”
He looked at her with a shocked face and said, “I never had a daddy before. Now I get two?” Beth nodded her head and mindlinked with her mates to tell them to come into the room.
As the door opened Beth watched as Link looked to see who was coming in curiously and she watched as his eyes lit up when he saw Ethan, but she saw him recoil when Alexi walked in behind him. “What’s wrong little one. These are your daddies. They won’t hurt you.” Beth tried to reassure him.
Her heart almost broke when he said in a small voice, “But vampires are mean and don’t wike wolves. They hurt us.” Beth was appalled by his thoughts. She can only imagine what he has been through in his short life for him to come to this conclusion. Alexi came over to the bed slowly so as not to startle him and squatted down so that they could be eye level and said, “Hi there buddy. I heard what you said about vampires and I just want to say that we are not all like that. Actually there are only a very few who feel like that. I am not one of them though. My mates are both wolves, well lycans but they are still technically a wolf. Did you know that you are part vampire too?” Alexi gave him a smile and Link looked at him suspiciously for a few minutes before he looked to Beth and Ethan for confirmation. Beth nodded her head with a smile at him as did Ethan. Link looked back at Alexi and said, “So you not a bad vampire? You like me?” His voice was so small and it broke Beth’s heart to hear him ask if Alexi liked him.
Alexi nodded his head and said, “If you let me I would like to be your daddy too like Ethan.” Link looked as if he was deep in thought for a minute and he nodded his head at Alexi and gave him a smile and said, “Timbwer said that you good vamp. I can twust you.” After a few seconds he said, “daddy.”
The smile Beth saw on Alexi’s face made her heart swell and then she heard Ethan make a noise that sounded like a whine and he said, “What about me kiddo, and who is Timber?”
Link looked to Ethan and smiled and said, “Timbwer is my wolf. He talks to me all the time since my othwer mama went to sleep and didn’t wake up. He says you my daddy too. Can I call you daddy too?”
Ethan’s answering smile was all the answer anyone needed, but he said yes anyway. They all sat on or around Link’s bed as they chatted a bit to get to know each other better. Beth was happy and she felt a little guilty when Roman knocked on the door and asked if they were ready for the funerals. She forgot all about her mother until just now. She looked at Alexi and could see he was feeling the same way. She turned to look at Link and then back to Roman and said, “Umm who will be with Link. I don’t want to leave him alone. Where is his doctor anyway? We haven’t seen one come in here the whole time we have been with him.” She was getting to be a protective mama wolf.
Roman smiled at her and said, “The replacement doctor should be in here momentarily. She will determine if the lad needs to stay here or not.”
Beth nodded her head and then not even a second later there was a knock on the door and one of the doctors who had treated her came in with a smile on her face. She looked at Link and said, “Well aren’t you a handsome young man. Let me get a look at you and determine if you can leave with your new mommy and daddies ok?”
Link looked to Beth and Alexi and Ethan to see what they thought and they all nodded their heads at them. He turned back to the doctor and took a deep breath and puffed his little chest out and nodded his head in determination. Beth couldn’t help but giggle to herself on how cute and adorable he was.
The doctor looked him over quickly and thoroughly after looking into his records and she gave a nod and said, “He looks like he is doing better already. From the notes he is undernourished so he should eat regular small meals at first. We don’t want to over stimulate his stomach or he could get sick. So stick with simple soups and bread to start. Then we can see how he does and then add in other nutrient rich foods. He should be up to speed in no time. His color already looks better in just the little bit I have been in here. I think it is safe to let him out of the hospital. If there are any problems or you notice him being lethargic or anything of that nature bring him back in. Otherwise I think he will do just fine.”
Beth let out the breath that she was holding and smiled at the doctor and thanked her. Beth turned to look at Link and realized they needed to get the little on into a bath and get him cleaned up before the funeral. Alexi was quick to scoop Link up and Ethan pouted. Beth couldn’t help but laugh at them and shake her head. They all made their way out of the hospital and headed to their respective rooms to get ready. Beth took Link from Alexi when they entered their suite and went straight to the bath with him. In no time they were both having a blast playing with the bubbles in the water as she washed him up.
As Beth was drying him she realized they didn’t have any clothes for him. Just as she was thinking that there was a knock on the bathroom door and it opened to reveal Ethan and he had a small pile of clothes in his hands. He said, “Sandra just stopped by with these. Honestly, she had quite a few bags full of clothes and toys. She said she can’t let her grandbaby go around naked or in rags with nothing to do.” He laughed at the end.
Beth smiled and thanked him and made a mental note to thank Sandra later. She got him dressed and then she let him loose on the toys with Alexi and Ethan to supervise him while she too got herself ready.
This was going to be hard she knew, but she already felt that Link was making her feel better a little at a time. She will never be able to really replace his real mom, but she will try to be the best step in mom that she can be. After she was ready they all made their way to where they would be laying her mom and Dimitri to rest.
It was a beautiful service and Beth shed a lot of tears but she was glad that her mother and Dimitri would be together in the afterlife like Harmony had said to her. She was glad it was over though because she was very tired and she knew that they had a task to complete. She would think about that tomorrow, but tonight she had a little boy to take care of. So they all made their way back to the room and they were surprised to see a load of gift bags on the couch and all over the living room. She went up to one of the bags and rolled her eyes. It was from Ares for Link and she could only imagine what he had given the boy.
She pushed it aside and noticed that all of the gift bags were from the various gods that she has met. She was flabbergasted at the amount of stuff. She decided they could look it tomorrow as well because Link looked like he was about to pass out in Ethan’s arms.
They went to the spare room and were shocked to notice that it was already set up for a little boy. Beth found a note on the bed that said, “Just a little something to help our little man feel at home” and it was simply signed by grandparents.
Beth smiled happily that he was being accepted by everyone. They laid him down in his new racecar bed and covered with a soft fuzzy blanket. Link was asleep the moment his little head hit the pillow. They all made their way quietly out of the room leaving the door opened a crack to allow some light in in case he woke up in the middle of the night. They went to their room to get ready for bed themselves and they all cuddled together in the bed and fell asleep with thoughts of their new son running through their minds.
