Marcus POV
“Father, I need your assistance at the cave you stationed me at. Arabella is causing a scene and refuses to listen to my commands,” Blaze says through our mindlink. I sigh and put my mate back on her feet as I stand up. I can’t wait until he finds his mate or settles down and I can repay all the interruptions he has caused over the years.
“Sorry love, but our son is asking for my help.” I say with a resigned smile on my face.
“Let me guess. Arabella or another of those rank bunnies he likes to associate himself with?” Anna laughs.
“You had it right the first time, love. I don’t know what that boy sees in that snake, but we both decided after the last fight we all had that nearly destroyed the roost to not interfere in his personal business and let his mate handle him when he found her.” I placed a kiss on her forehead and started to head to the floor to ceiling window in my office and to the balcony. I wink at her and shift into my black dragon.
As I fly towards the southwest border where the cave that Blaze likes to stay in while on missions I wonder what the hell could have happened this time. I hope it isn’t a spat between two young women that my son decided to play around with. I will never understand why he is the way he is with women. I was never that way. I am not saying I was a saint and saved myself for my mate, but I only had two other partners before I was blessed by the gods with Anna.
As I near the cave I can hear a few different voices and I see a group of outsiders behind Blaze’s dragon, and Arabella in her dragon form in a threatening stance. Then I see this little spitfire of a woman walk up to Arabella’s dragon and question her intelligence. My beast and I could not help but laugh at that. A tiny woman insulting a dragon. Granted Arabella’s dragon is one of the smallest I have seen from the clan, she is still a lethal creature. I can see Arabella is about to attack her when I let out a loud roar gaining their attention. My beast decided to spit some fire out to add to the countenance we are trying to portray to delay the attack. I am sure Arabella was about to follow through on.
As I land I command them to shift after I do so. Blaze shifts first and rushes to the little spitfire and wraps her in his arms. I allow them their moment and then question why Arabella was even here. After she gives me her lame accounts of what happened and she said the word mate I whip my head towards my son and I feel a large smile gracing my lips. I know it must look like I am accepting of this, which I am, however, my smile is because now operation payback will be a go. I am happy for my son, but I am happier I can now grace him with the blue balls he has been making sure I have since the day he came from his mother’s womb.
I express my happiness and subtly let her know she is going to have her hands full with him. She just laughs with me with a knowing smile on her face and then Blaze explains that she has already had to put him in his place a couple of times. I laugh and send a quiet thank you to the gods for gracing us with this young woman. Now maybe I can rest well at night knowing that the clan will be in good hands once I decide to retire.
I am brought out of my happy thoughts to a screaming Arabella. My beast wants to just set her ass on fire so she would just shut up. I tell her enough and to get back to the clan and tell her with no room for argument to leave my son and his mate alone. As she flys off I can tell that she is going to be a problem for the near future, but that can wait. I am curious what has brought this group here and ask. As I am looking at the woman who is obviously heavily with child, my son tells me they are here for the flower that the gods have placed in our care for generations. No one has been able to pass the tests the gods have given to attain the flower and I fear the same will happen and then my son will be without his mate. My beast tells me to let them try, and that he feels the time is now for us to be relieved from our duties from the gods. I sigh and resign myself knowing that even if I wanted to I can’t talk them out of it. So I nod my head and say, “Alright. Let’s get you all back to the clan and we can discuss the details and we can get the rituals started in the morning. I’ll shift and half of you can ride on my back and the rest on Blazes. I am not sure how safe it will be for you to ride on our backs so I can carry you in one of my claws.” I say to the heavily pregnant woman.
I hear a couple growls and look at the two men surrounding her. Before either of them can speak she lays a hand on both of theirs and says, “I appreciate the offer sir. Though I will have to decline. If you allow, I can get the location from you or your son and open a portal for us all to get there quicker.”
I notice the older man’s face turn green. I must not be the only one because the others laugh at him. I don’t see a problem with that and it will be faster and safer for her. I nod my agreement and she grabs Blaze’s hand after she told him to think
of only the clan and not long afterwards a swirling portal opens in the air. They make Blaze go first and then they follow and then I come through last. As I get out of the portal I feel my stomach roll and it takes everything in me not to be beside the older man throwing up behind one of the bushes outside of the roost. I now understand his green complexion after she said portal. I will not be doing that again anytime soon if I can help it.
Anna is standing on the stairs of the roost and she smiles at me with sympathy and then winks at me. She greets our guests and we show them where they can rest before dinner. Blaze and his mate Jessica disappear quickly and the rest of us just chuckle because we know what it is like to find your mate. I wrap an arm around Anna’s waist and whisper in her ear, “Now that he has his mate we can finally get some alone time without him interrupting us all the time.” She just laughs and shakes her head because she knows exactly what I mean and what is going to happen.
We lead the guests to some rooms and we let them know we will send someone to gather them for dinner in 3 hours time. Before we leave the young woman asks if it would be ok for her to port her pup here from his grandfather’s because she misses him terribly and the look Anna gives me tells me that I will not deny this request. I nod and she gives us a bright smile before she hugs me and Anna telling us thank you.
She took no time at all to make a portal and walk through and back out with a boy of no more than four years old. He gives us a shy smile and says, “Mama says that you awe dwagons. I have neva seen a dwagon befowe. I bet you awe cool looking.”
I chuckle and my beast is preening inside being called cool from this young one. “Maybe after dinner little one I can let my dragon out and he can let you play with him,” I say and watch this little boy’s face light up with a bright smile. We say our goodbyes and let them get settled. After the door shuts I grab my mate and throw her over my shoulder as she shrieks and starts to laugh as I run to our room before anyone else can interrupt us.
