Third Person POV
After Beth had lunch with her mates she was getting ready to head into the ritual room to start her next test. After her first test she was confident that everything would be ok. She realized that she just needed to be honest with herself in her actions and thoughts. She needed to keep in mind why she is doing all of this. She needs to free her people who have been trapped for things they didn’t even do. The actions of one man cursed the whole of his people. It was so sad when she thought about it.
Right as her hand was about to turn the handle she sensed more than saw Ares. So she called out startling Marcus and Blaze as she did so. They still weren’t used to how Beth just says whatever she wants to the gods. “Ares, I know you are there. So instead of hiding out like some old creeper, why don’t you join us in the physical realm? Hmmm?”
A deep booming laughter was heard in the semi empty room and Ares slowly manifested himself as Beth was standing with her hands on her hips and her left foot tapping on the ground. Obviously not amused by his antics. She has more important things to deal with than a moody god who got his kicks on spying on people.
“Calm down Beth. I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to be a, what is it that you called me? Some old creeper, was it? I am just here to make sure that you are taking care of ALL of your nutritional needs,” Ares said looking pointedly at Beth who yet again forgot to drink some of her meal.
Beth let out a long drawn out sigh and said, “I didn’t drink any blood for two reasons. First being that I am not at home and do not want to upset anyone by my differences, and two I am still full? Is that the right word to use? From the last time you ensured that I met all my “nutritional” needs.” Beth made sure to use air quotations for nutritional to let Ares know that she isn’t buying what he is selling.
“You may not feel the need to drink right now, but those babies inside you do not have that same feeling. Open up your senses to your pups. You will see that they are starving for you to drink.” Ares stated while giving her a look that said ‘Go ahead and try to argue with me’.
Beth just sighed and did what she was asked to do. She didn’t even remember that Sandra had helped her to be able to communicate with her pups. She closed her eyes and saw Harmony inside her mind and surrounding Harmony were three very cute little wolf pups. It felt a little surreal to be seeing them like this. Once the pups noticed her they came barreling into Beth knocking her on her butt while they started to lick attack her face or any other part of her they could reach.
Beth opened up her connection with her pups and noticed that Ares was right. They were practically starving for blood right now. She felt so horrible that she was neglecting what her pups needed. She gave each pup a snuggle and rubbed Harmony on her head and stepped back out of her mind. She looked up at Ares with tears in her eyes and said, “You were right. I didn’t realize that I was practically starving my babies.” Beth started to sob because her hormones were all over the place right now. Now that she opened up that link with the pups she was dying of thirst. Like magic Ares produced a large goblet filled with blood.
As Ares watched Beth drink down the blood he realized that her hunger is getting stronger for the blood. He knew then that it was only a matter of a few days before those babies would be here. Ares didn’t realize it to begin with but after his encounter with Fate he had found his way to Destiny to ask her what the hell Fate had meant by her comment. He wanted to know what it was about Beth receiving Zeus’ blood that will save the gods. He wanted to make sure that she was not going to be put into any danger. He refuses to be a part of hurting his granddaughter. Now that he has been able to spend some time with her he actually realized that he found something that made his usual monotonous life just a bit more bearable.
Flashback Third Person POV
Ares stormed through the palace of the gods and found his way to Destiny’s quarters. He didn’t even knock because why would he let his prey know he was coming. He chuckled to himself as he thought of all the ways he could play with the goddess to get the information that he wants. Destiny was one of the few Goddesses that he kept relations with and it just so happened that he knew exactly what would get her to talking.
As he walked into the rooms that made up her home he found her already in bed naked waiting for him. “Took you long enough. Fate must have thrown you off guard by her comment on the mortal girl. If I didn’t know that she had your blood running through her veins I would be concerned that you found yourself a new toy.” Destiny said with a sexy pout on her lips.
“So you set that up for me to come see you. Is that right pet?” Ares said in a dominating voice that caused Destiny to shiver and moisture to pool between her legs. Ares saw her reaction and continued to dominate the little goddess.
In the midst of passion Destiny had said that in order for Beth and her children to survive the upcoming battles she would need to deliver her babies. For this to happen they needed to make the children more godlike than mortal, and in order to do that feeding them the blood of the king of the gods was necessary. After ingesting the blood one time it would boost the children’s and mother’s natural abilities, a second time would shorten the gestation time by a few weeks, a third time would shorten it by a few months, a fourth time would ensure that all of them would have a lengthened lifespan.
End of flashback
Ares watched as Beth drank the fourth cup of blood down. He knew that she and her pups would be safe now until the end of the trials. He waited until Beth was closing the door to the ritual room before he turned to the others in the room and said, “Now that Beth is busy you boys need to head out and intercept the band of rogues coming this way. They have inside help so be careful to only trust those that are in this room. I have said all that I can, but please be quick about it. Beth shouldn’t be too long now. She will be doing both rituals at once. Leave Jessica and Sandra here to protect Beth until she can leave the rituals.”
With that said Ares disappeared. What everyone didn’t know was that Beth never closed the door and she heard everything that Ares had said. She knew she needed to get done with these rituals so that she could help protect the people that she loves and the new friends they have met. With that thought she straightened her shoulders and marched further into the room after the door finally shut fully.
