Ethan’s POV
When Erica had shown up on the battlefield I didn’t think anything else could shock me. How wrong I was. When I heard my oldest son cry for the first time I was floored. I couldn’t move and I couldn’t think of anything except for this precious life that my mate created. They are all so perfect. Ares, Dimitri, and Esmerelda. I may pretend to be offended with Ares and all but I think Beth made the right decision to name our son after him. He has been nothing but loving towards Beth.
I have been standing over the pups watching them sleep for a while now. I can’t believe I am a dad now. I mean I was already one to Link, but I am a new dad to three tiny little people. I don’t love Link any less than I do these pups. This is just new to me. I hear some rustling of blankets and turn my head to see that Beth woke up from her nap and is sitting up in bed now. I reluctantly walk away from the pups and lean down and give Beth a kiss on her forehead and say, “How are you feeling baby? You did an amazing job you know. They’re perfect just like you.”
Beth gives me a happy smile as she says, “I feel good. Surprisingly so, but Harmony said we can thank her and Ares for that. She sped up my healing and something about the blood Ares had been giving me helped boost her abilities. So my body is like it was before I pushed living beings out of me.”
“That’s awesome darling.” Alexi said as he walked into the room with a tray full of food. I noticed three plates so I gathered that he got enough for all of us. “You are on food duty next time Ethan and I get to stay and watch the pups.”
“What if I miss something! I swear Esme almost smiled while you were gone,” I whined.
I heard Beth giggle from her sitting position on the bed. “Oh Ethan! You aren’t going to miss much right now except when they fill their diapers and I would think you would want to miss out on diaper duty.” Beth said between her giggles.
I just scowled at her and grabbed my plate and moved to sit in the chair beside the pups.
“Anyway. Darling, can you tell us what happened at the ritual building? How is your mom back?” Alexi asked Beth question after question.
“Well I guess I need to start by telling you what happened while I was doing the last two rituals.” Beth told us about how Erica and Dimitri’s bodies were there in the clearing and how she had to make a choice, and why she chose what she did. She isn’t sure how Erica came back, but she isn’t going to question it and I can’t say that I blame her. She explained how when she came out of the ritual that there was chaos in the building. She had found Sandra and Jessica in a room bleeding out. How she healed Jessica and then the fight she was in with the rogues and that female dragon we first ran into.
By the time Beth was finished with the account of what happened Dimitri started to cry. I jumped up and rushed to his crib and beat Alexi by seconds. Though by the smell coming from him I kind of wish I would have let him get here first. Now I get stuck changing a poopy diaper. “Good grief little man. What did you eat? It smells like something crawled into your diaper and died buddy.” I kept talking to Dimitri as I tried not to throw up on my son while I changed his diaper. By the time I finished cleaning him up his brother and sister were starting to stir. It must be feeding time. I carried Dimitri over to Beth while Alexi worked on changing his own poopy diaper with Ares. From the sounds he is making it isn’t much better than Dimitri’s diaper.
Now that Dimitri is being fed I walked over to our little princess and saw that she was wide awake and just watching the world around her. As soon as I came into her view I swear her eyes lit up and she smiled a little. “Hey princess. You are very quiet unlike your brothers.” I kept talking to her as I changed her diaper. Thankfully her dirty diaper wasn’t nearly as bad as her brothers, thank the goddesses for that! Once I was finished with changing her I carried her over to Beth who had just finished feeding Dimitri and was placing Ares to her breast. Beth opened her other arm for Esme and got her latched onto her other breast. Alexi had Dimitri and was burping him.
After all the pups were fed and burped we laid them back down in their cribs so they could sleep. That was exhausting. I don’t know how some young mothers do this alone with just one. I think I would rather battle a hundred rogues by myself than do all of that by myself. I made a mental note to help Beth out as much as possible with the kids.
“So where is the plant that is the reason we are here anyway?” I asked Beth when I made it back over to her after placing the last pup in bed.
“It is hidden away where no one but myself can get to it.” Beth replied.
Knock knock
There was a knock on the door and then Jessica’s head popped in the slightly open door. “Are you up for visitors Beth? There are a lot of people out here wanting to see you and the pups.”
“She needs rest.” I said.
“Maybe after the pups wake back up.” Alexi said.
“Sure! I am up to see everyone and share the pups with them. But I will warn you and anyone else if you wake them up you are taking care of them until they fall asleep again.” Beth said at the same time Alexi and I answered.
Jess obviously ignored mine and Alexi’s response because she was gone and back with Blaze, Marcus, Anna, Erica, Alexander, Sandra, and Roman who had Link on his hip.
“Someone wanted to meet his little brothers and sister.” Roman said with a smile. “Link, you have to be really quiet and careful with the pups. You are their big brother now and you need to watch out for them and protect them ok?”
“I’m gonna be the best big bwother evwer!” Link said quietly. We all laughed at him.
After Roman let Link see the babies he placed him on the floor and all the adults started to circle around the cribs. Link was not letting anyone get too close to the pups and we all laughed at his antics.
“So did you get anything out of the prisoners?” I asked Blaze while everyone else was crowding around the pups.
“We haven’t interrogated them yet. Dad and I have been trying to figure out how they made it in, in the first place. We should have been notified that there was a breach of the border. Someone had to be working with them who knows where everything is. We just haven’t figured out who yet.” Blaze responded.
“Why don’t you ask that b***h you were f*****g before you met my sister. Seeing as she was there in the ritual building with the rogues, and was the one who attacked my sister and nearly killed her and your pup.” I growled out to him.
From the look on his face I guess he didn’t know about that part. Blaze let out an earthshaking growl and said, “What the hell are you talking about? Arabella was there! I am going to kill that b***h!” Blaze stormed out of the room slamming the door shut. No sooner did the door slam did we hear three startled little cries. Link looked like he was going to kill Blaze as he started to march to the door.
“Hold up little man. Uncle Blaze is angry right now. He didn’t mean to wake them up. Why don’t you help us put them back to sleep ok?” Alexi caught Link before he could make it out of the room.
We spent some time with the family and our visitors, but I could see that Beth was still tired. She may be healed, but she still needs to rest. Her body went through a lot the last few days and she needs to recuperate. After everyone left promising to be back later we all settled down on the bed. Beth was laying her head on my chest and Alexi was spooning her from behind, and that is how we fell asleep.
