Blaze’s POV
When I first learned that my mate was stabbed I was furious and wracked with worry about her and our hatchling. Now we are in the hospital waiting for a doctor to come in and check to make sure she is fine. I had to practically drag her to the room because she insisted she was fine and needed to be there when her niece and nephews were born, but I was more concerned about our child right now. I should probably trust my mates instincts but I am an alpha male and I am over protective of my mate and offspring.
The door finally opened and I was thankful it was the doctor. I wasn’t sure how much longer I would be able to keep Jess away from Beth’s room.
“Hello. I hear we need to check to make sure everything is going well with this hatchling?” The doctor asked as she sat on her rolling stool beside my mate’s bed.
“I swear I am fine. It is just Mr. Worrywart here doesn’t trust mine and my wolf’s instincts.” Jess said while giving me a glare.
“Baby, you were stabbed several times in your stomach! If it wasn’t for Beth you would both be dead right now! Please just let the doctor make sure everything is ok. It will help my beast calm down. Please?” I begged and pleaded with my mate.
“Fine, but when the doctor says that I am perfectly fine you owe me the biggest cheeseburger you can find!” Jess reluctantly agreed with me.
“Deal. As big as you want, baby.” I said to her as I placed a kiss on her forehead.
“Well now that we have that settled, why don’t you lie on back Jessica and lift your shirt and pull the band of your pants to below your stomach please. I will warn you the gel will be cold.” The doctor instructed. Jess complied and did as she was told. She jumped just a little when the gel was placed on her stomach.
I watched the screen trying to make heads or tails at what I was seeing. I honestly didn’t see much of anything except for a bunch of static. The doctor just hummed every now and then. I was starting to get frustrated without knowing anything and the doctor must have sensed my agitation because she quickly started to explain what was on the screen.
“Well I am glad to say that your mate was right and she is perfectly fine and so is the fetus. See here,” The doctor pointed to a spot on the screen that looked darker than the rest of the static, “That is your baby. Looks like you are roughly four weeks in.”
“But we just met a few days ago! I was a virgin! How can our baby be that big already?” Jess asked as she started to freak out a bit. I was right there with her.
“Hmmm let me do some checking around. You said you were a wolf right?” The doctor asked. When Jess nodded her head in conformation the doctor continued, “Then we are dealing with a hybrid baby. The gestation time with hybrids is shorter. I have never heard of a wolf/dragon hybrid so we will have to play this one by ear. But gauging at the growth rate now I would guess that you could be delivering in a few months.”
I was speechless. I was just getting to the point of accepting that I was going to be a father and have to share my mate in six months, but now I only have a few months! I don’t know if I am ready for this! Will I even be a good dad?
We thanked the doctor and I helped Jess clean herself up. I had to rush out the door to follow her because there was no stopping her now that she was given a clean bill of health. We were stopped outside of the room by my parents. Jess started to talk to my mom and my dad pulled me to the side.
“Is everything ok with my grandhatchling?” My father asked me.
“Yeah. Mom and baby are both doing good. No damage from the attack thankfully. We did find out that her pregnancy will be sped up because of the child being a hybrid. So we will have a new addition to the family in a few months. Did you get anything out of the prisoners yet?” I asked.
“No. I figured we could wait on Ethan and Alexi before we interrogate the prisoners. I just wish I knew who helped them get in.” My father replied.
Just as I was about to say something else Jess called out to us saying we could go in now.
Everyone was crowding around the cribs to get a look at the babies. My mate was over the moon watching the little ones sleep. I on the other hand just became more nervous about being a dad. They were so little. Would my baby be that small? What if I dropped them?
I stepped away from the cribs and stood by Ethan to congratulate him. He asked me the same thing I asked my dad about the prisoners. I said, “We haven’t interrogated them yet. Dad and I have been trying to figure out how they made it in, in the first place. We should have been notified that there was a breach of the border. Someone had to be working with them who knows where everything is. We just haven’t figured out who yet.”
What he said next had my blood boiling and my beast wanting out to get blood. Ethan growled out, “Why don’t you ask that b***h you were f*****g before you met my sister. Seeing as she was there in the ritual building with the rogues, and was the one who attacked my sister and nearly killed her and your pup.”
I let out the loudest growl I have ever bellowed out and said, “What the hell are you talking about? Arabella was there! I am going to kill that b***h!” and then rushed out of the room slamming the door behind me. I winced a little as I heard the babies start to cry.
As soon as I was out of the building I shifted into my dragon and took to the air releasing streams of fire to release some of this rage. I flew for I don’t know how long looking for that b***h. I knew I would be able to find her. I just didn’t know what I was going to do to her when I finally got a hold of her. I really wanted to watch the life leave her eyes. How dare she try to kill my mate and hatchling! She knew she was just a quick lay to me.
I could feel my father and mate trying to link me but I blocked them all out. I just couldn’t handle anyone talking me out of killing the b***h. I had been flying around now for a few hours and had calmed down some. I knew that I couldn’t kill her just yet. I needed to capture her alive, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t get a little bit of revenge in the process.
It took a while because she had a head start, but I finally caught her scent and was on the hunt. I was enraged when I saw her with the wolf that led the charge on us. They seemed to be arguing. I stayed downwind so that they wouldn’t notice me right away.
I watched carefully and sent a mindlink to my father requesting back up so that we could get both of them. It shouldn’t take them long to get to me. We surprisingly aren’t that far away from the main clanlands. When I got confirmation they were a few minutes away I made my move. I flew in and dropped right on top of them. Placing a talon on top of both of the women. Arabella looked like she saw a ghost and the female wolf looked like she was about to s**t her pants.
“Blaze, baby. What are you doing? I did it for us. So we could be together. I know you didn’t really want to be with that wolf b***h. It was just the pull of the mate bond that made you cast me aside. I fixed it!” Arabella stupidly thought that I wanted to be with her.
“How many times do I have to tell you before you get it through your thick skull? I. Do. Not. Want. You! My fated mate and hatchling are doing fine by the way. Seems like you just confessed to conspiring with outsiders to aid in the attack on our clan. You do realize that in itself is punishable by death, right? Not only that you led an attack on your future alpha female and heir to the clan. Those crimes are also punishable by death. Looks like you have an expiration date Arabella, and it is soon, real soon.” I couldn’t help myself telling her what her punishments were going to be.
“WHAT?! No! You can’t be serious! How is that stupid b***h not f*****g dead!” Arabella started to thrash around trying to get out from my hold, but she wasn’t going anywhere but the cells until we could interrogate her. She had to have help from the inside to get them in. There is no way that she was able to bypass our security systems on her own.
It didn’t take long for the reinforcements to arrive. They cuffed the female wolf in silver shackles. Arabella was shackled in a special steel that wouldn’t allow her to shift to her dragon form. When we get her to the cells she will be given a dose of a potion that will break her connection with her dragon for a short period of time. We don’t want to hurt the dragon soul unless we need to. It wasn’t the beast that was bad, it was the human. My beast can sense that hers was thankful she was caught.
As soon as we got them back to the clan and inside the prison I was met with a furious mate. No sooner was I in front of her was she smacking me everywhere she could reach shouting, “I swear to the goddess Blaze. How dare you leave like that! Why didn’t you answer any of my links? I was worried about you. The stress you caused is SO not good for our pup. Did you think about us at all while you were out there ignoring us?” Jessica’s last sentence ended on a sob.
I felt like a complete and total asshole right now. My poor pregnant mate was beside herself right now. I didn’t know what to do or say to make this right, but I tried anyway. I wrapped my arms around her and whispered into her hair, “I am so sorry baby. Of course I was thinking about you. The whole reason I stormed off was because I was looking for the b***h that almost took you and our hatchling away from me. I promise I won’t do it again. I will NEVER ignore your links again either. I wasn’t thinking. I let my baser instincts fuel my actions. Please forgive me, baby.” Yeah yeah I know. A big bad dragon sitting here begging his mate to forgive him.
Jess sniffled a little and said, “I guess I can forgive you just this once. Just don’t make a habit of it, ok? I was really worried about you when I couldn’t reach you. So you caught the poo dragon, I take it, since you are back?”
I chuckled at her nickname for Arabella and then answered her, “Yes, baby. I caught the poo dragon and as a bonus the female wolf that led the attack. Hopefully we will get some good information from them, but that can wait until the morning. You need to get some rest and I know damn well that you will want to be part of the interrogation in the morning. So let’s get you to bed hmm?”
Jess looked like she was about to protest when she yawned. She nodded her agreement afterwards a little sheepishly. I just chuckled at her cuteness and swept her up into my arms and carried her to our room. I couldn’t wait to just lay down with her in my arms and leave this long stressful day behind us.
