Jessica’s POV
Ethan caught me off guard asking if I was going back with them or not. I really don’t want to leave my family high and dry in their time of need, and after the attack here I have no doubt that there will be more. Though most females move to their mates packs and my mate is the next heir for the clan so he can’t honestly move to my home pack. This was a mess and I didn’t know how to answer that question. I could feel my mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water until Blaze grabbed my hand and gave it a little squeeze.
“We’ll be coming with you. My father and I already discussed this and a small contingent of our warriors will be coming as well to help out in this fight while he organizes the clans. Now that our people’s task has been completed we no longer need to stay within these borders. Think there might be a place for the clans in the other kingdoms?” Blaze pipes in and I am in awe. He never said anything to me about this. I was definitely happily surprised. So much so I couldn’t help the goofy smile that overtook my face at hearing his words. Knowing that I wouldn’t have to give up my family and pack life completely.
“Of course. If the vampire kingdom won’t have you or the wolves I will open up the Lycan kingdom for you. Kind of fitting having two of the most notorious mythical creatures share one kingdom.” Beth says and has a thoughtful expression on her face as she contemplates the idea more. I can tell that the hamster is in there running a mile a minute. “That’s settled then. Good to know you are coming back with us Jessica. Ares may I ask what Beth can expect on this spirit journey of hers. Are there tasks that she will have to complete on this journey other than what you have stated?” Alexi enquires. I must admit he does ask some pretty good questions. No sense in Beth being blindsided again like she was on this quest.
“As far as I know there aren’t, however, that is not to say that Sierra won’t have a few tricks up her sleeve. No telling how millenia in the underworld would have changed her personality. I mean honestly if I had to deal with Hades for that long I would want to get my kicks however I could. Hades can be quite boring. You would think being the ruler of the Underworld he would have a better sense of humor, but noooo. That would be asking for too much from him. All he does is whine and complain that he is overworked and no one will play canasta with him.” Ares said and I was actually surprised to see the god roll his eyes.
I couldn’t help my snort of laughter at that either. Picturing the king of the Underworld all whiney and mopey because no one will play cards with him and then the god of war rolling his eyes was just too much for me to keep it in. I was glad to hear Beth’s giggles too. I knew we were friends for a reason other than her being Ethan’s mate. Our sense of humor goes hand in hand like peas and carrots.
“What’s so funny?” Blaze, Ares, Ethan, and Alexi ask all at the same time, which made us laugh harder. Man guys were so dense sometimes.
It took Beth and I a minute to calm our laughter down only for Sandra and Alexander to come into the room and Alexander asked what was up with us so we told them what Ares said and Sandra started to bust up laughing with us while Alexander just stared at us like we grew another head.
“Why are gwirls so weiwred.” Link asked his dads and I could just see them shaking their heads not knowing how to answer him.
We finally got ourselves under control and slowly, oh so very slowly, explained to the oblivious bunch of testosterone why we found it so funny and after explaining it about a dozen times they finally understood, but didn’t find it nearly as funny as we did. Whatever, it was funny and they just have no sense of humor.
Not long after we finished explaining everything to Sandra and Alexander did the doctor come in and shoo us all out while they checked over Beth and the pups. We were all arguing about the best way to get back to the vampire kingdom when the doc came back out because the men didn’t want to do the portal again, but Sandra and I argued that flying or running wasn’t going to work either with three newborn babies.
Beth followed the doc out the door with two pups in a sling and another in her arms. She successfully put an end to the argument by opening up a portal and marching right on through as she said, “You have 10 seconds to either grow a pair and come through the portal or find your own way home. I don’t have time for you boys and your weak stomachs. I have a race to set free and you arguing over going through a damn portal or not is the least of my worries.”
Sandra and I quickly followed her through and I grabbed Blaze’s hand on my way tugging him with me as Sandra did the same to Alexander. Ethan and Alexi had already high tailed it after their mate not wanting to be away from her or the pups. Alexander whined the whole way trying to talk Sandra into a nice scenic trip home that didn’t require walking through “The devils gate” as he had put it.
I just shook my head and dragged Blaze with me and no sooner had he stepped through the portal did it close and he and Alexander ran to the nearest bush to empty their stomachs out. I swear if I shake my head anymore this morning I will be giving myself brain damage. These men are all badasses until you mention a portal and they can’t even keep their lunch.
I ran to catch up to Beth figuring that Alexander can show Blaze where we were going to be. As we entered the door I was surprised to see my mom standing at the bottom of the stairs directing people to do as she wished and put the castle into some semblance of order. I looked around and noticed it looked like there was a wild kegger before we showed up. Beth looked at Roman with a c****d eyebrow as he looked appalled. “I don’t even understand what happened. One minute the maids were cleaning and the next they all decided to quit at the same time.” Roman said and then watched in awe as my mother got everything back on track.
“Well Mr. King. If you would pay your employees they may actually do work. Why didn’t they get paid?” My mother scowled at Roman who looked like he felt about 2 inches tall right now.
“What? I thought that came out by itself? What is the point in having all this technology if it doesn’t even work right?!” Roman fumed.
Beth stood there looking at him like he was an i***t and said, “Yeah there is a program that can send the checks out simultaneously but you actually have to hit the send button to have it done. It is a fail safe set into the programming. Really Roman. How have you run a kingdom this long and not know about that?”
“If I didn’t know about having to push a damn button for people to get paid, then I obviously am not the one in charge of making sure the household is paid.” Roman replied back.
“Well good thing for you I came here when I did! I already took care of that problem, and just so you know the person in charge of doing that task was a part of that conspiracy thing going on right now. You need to find someone else to complete the task if you don’t want to do it.” My mother stated. It was like she just realized we were here even though Beth said something a few minutes ago.
The squeals from my mother over the babies was a little ridiculous. I am glad I decided to hold off on telling her about my bun in the oven, however Ethan was trying to get our mother off of the babies and had to open his big headed big mouth. I gave him the look that said he was in for it and I took pleasure in the large gulp he made knowing he just messed with the wrong she-wolf.
It took me ages to get my mother off of me and to leave me alone. Thank goodness I was able to pawn her off onto Ethan again. After we all got settled in we had a meeting with everyone and included dad on a zoom call so that he would be in the loop as well. We all decided that Beth would start her spirit quest in the morning after a good night’s sleep and after she was able to pump enough milk for the babies that they would be ok while she was indisposed.
I was more than thankful that it was time to crawl into bed. Blaze tried to get handsy with me, but one growl and a whine later and he was cuddling me and drifting off into sleep. I was not far behind him. I had this odd feeling that we were going to have some uninvited guests soon. I just hope Beth’s journey is easier than it sounds, but we all know hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
