                    Cassie’s POV
I could swear that this room was empty earlier today when Doreen gave me a tour of the house. But right now, it was looking like some backstage of a fashion show event.
There was a rail of clothings, another of shoes and bags. There was also a makeup chair already set up alongside with the kits.
Shawn did all these for me?
“Ma‘am, these are Essa and Tina.” She gestured towards the two women in the room. They smiled and bowed towards me. “Essa is in charge of your face while Tina will style you and also make your hair. I’ll be here too just in case you need anything.”
My eyes suddenly felt itchy with tears. Never did I think a day would come when I would experience being treated with care and respect.
Tina pushed the rail of clothing towards me. “I’m not sure about your taste ma’am but I selected the best dresses in store. Please go through them and let me know which you love the most.” She said with smiles on her face.
Yeah, this was what I was avoiding. Making a fool of myself. I had no idea what was in trend. Hell, I had no taste to know what would look good on me or not.
“What do you think?” I asked Tina. Since this was her job, she should know better than me, right?
“I think red would look good on your skin tone.”
“Really?” I had no idea when I said that out loud. I was really not into flashy wears. Besides, I’ve only owned a few pieces of clothing so I had no idea what would fit and not.
“Okay, I have an idea. You can try all of them if you want and we will pick the one that suits you most.”
“I can?” I mumbled in disbelief. If I wasn’t mistaken, the dresses were about 13. “I could ruin them,” I added.
Tina chuckled. “Don’t worry ma’am. Mr Shawn paid for them all. And the ones you do not like, we can always exchange them for something even better at the store.
I was trying to make sense of what Tina said when She made me snap out of my thoughts by taking two dresses off the rails and showing them to me.
I spent the next twenty minutes trying all of the outfits and we settled for the red one. Tina was right. Red was really my color.
Doreen reminded that we were running out of time so the ladies shooed me to the makeup chair. Tina styled my hair, and then Essa began working on my face. I had no idea what they were both doing but it took a while.
“The jewelry please?” Tina announced, and then Doreen handed over a familiar box.
“This is the most beautiful piece I have seen in a while.” Essa smiled, admiring the earrings as Tina wore them on me.
“I can’t believe my hands are shaking.” Tina chuckled. “Probably because I know it costs a fortune.”
“A fortune?” I voiced out. I know it was a very precious piece when I saw it earlier but I didn’t think of the price.
“They are worth more than 30,000.”
“What??????”
Essa and Tina stared at me with creased brows.
“I bet it’s more than that.” I heard Doreen say.
But why would Shawn get me something this ridiculous? Is he doing this to make me indebted to him forever?
Essa did the finishing touches on my face then it was time to pick the shoe I was going to wear.
Once again, Tina appeared before me with two pairs of shoes. I settled for the black one. Then she got on her knees and was about to put them on when I spoke.
“I can do that myself.”
“No, Ma’am, it’s fine.” She smiled, then guided my foot into the heels, one after the other.
“Ready to see yourself?” Essa asked with smiles all over her face.
This was probably the first time ever that I was in the midst of people who were genuinely happy for me. I don’t know where Shawn got these ladies from but they were so cool and it was almost as though we had known each other for a while.
For someone who all her life had always been ordered around, it felt good to be in the midst of people who respected my opinion, even though it was just for a while.
“Sure,” I whispered, slowly helping myself down from the chair. I took slow steps toward the other side of the room where the standing mirror was located.
I was short of words as I stared back at my reflection.
Was this really me?
I heard someone take slow steps towards me. “It’s fine if you don’t like it. Just tell us what you don’t like and we will fix it right away.” Essa said.
“Yes, ma’am. We are at your service.” I heard Tina say.
I turned to my side to look at them. “You both really made me unrecognizable.”
“You like it?” Tina asked in relief.
“Yes, thank you,” I said, then turned my face back to the mirror to admire myself some more. I was putting on a short red dress with an exposed back. The dress really looked good on me. The makeup made me look even more beautiful and the way my hair was styled made me feel like a bride. I was not even this gorgeous on any of my wedding day.
The earrings! Holy shit!
“Does this come with some insurance or something?” I said to no one in particular. My father’s debt was a lot. I couldn’t be responsible for anything extra.
“You shouldn’t bother about that; ma’am. Master has that taken care of.” Doreen responded.
“Your purse!” Essa said and brought a purse towards me. Actually, it matched my dress and shoes so well.
“What’s inside?” I asked as I collected the purse from her.
“Your essentials.” She answered.
I opened the medium clutch purse and I saw a small bottle of perfume, lipstick, hand cream, and a portable powder palette.
I sprayed my body with the perfume provided by the girls and was out of the room in no time. I had no idea what to expect at the dinner tonight but it feels so good to be dolled up. Shawn is an asshole but I’m going to try my best to enjoy my time out.
As I made my way toward the end of the hallway, I saw Shawn standing outside the door of the master bedroom, staring at the watch on his wrist. He had his back against my direction and I could see that he had changed into another suit.
He must have heard my footsteps because he turned around when I was almost by his side.
“Why did y……..” Shawn was starting to lash out at me but ate his words the moment his eyes landed on me.
“Fuck!!!!”
I could see desire in his eyes and that boosted my confidence.
“Looking for me?” I whispered the moment I approached him. Shawn failed to respond, still checking me out.
“You chose this dress?”
“What about it?” I said without a care in the world, ignoring the jealousy in his voice.
He took a step closer to me, his eyes not leaving me. I could see his lips twitch. He was probably thinking of how to air his thoughts.
Did I look that good?
“What?” I snapped at him.
“Trying to see if this befits the event.”
I rolled my eyes. “Didn’t you handpick the dresses?”
“That’s not the point. I don’t want people gawking at what’s mine.”
“Asshole!” I mumbled. That was his way of complimenting his wife. What a gentleman!
“I’m not going to go anywhere if I take it off!” I said sternly.
Shawn leaned closer to me, with his face by my ear, whispering “You are trying to be the end of me but I won’t let you.”
“Come with me and put on your best behavior.” He said, then started to make his way down the stairs.
I rolled my eyes, walking behind him.
We got outside the house and found a car waiting right by the entrance. It was different from the one I saw in the morning. I couldn’t help but wonder how many cars he had.
Shawn went over to the driver’s seat and helped himself in. I stood still, by the door of the front passenger seat.
I saw the glass wind down. Shawn tilted his face so he could look me in the eye.
“Get in, we are going to be late.”
“I don’t mind going back in if you cannot open the door for me.”
He scoffed, “Are you kidding me?”
“You’ve got just two minutes or I’ll go back in,” I said, holding tighter onto my clutch. I was petty but I didn't care. He should have thought about that when he wanted me to suck him. I wonder if he didn’t think about the fact that he was so huge and I could have choked.
Shawn eventually got out of the car and came over to my side. Throwing glares my way, he opened the door to the front passenger seat. I entered and got comfortable. In no time, he got into the car and turned his attention to me. “You are not permitted to look at any man twice!”
“But what if they’ve got sexier bodies?” I asked and could almost see smoke coming out of Shawn’s ear.
