Cassie’s POV
“What’s this?” I tore my glance away from the box and looked into Shawn’s eyes. Obviously, I had an idea of what it could be from the face of it but I was confused as to what was going on here.
“Wouldn’t you like to build your collection?”
Shocked, I rose to my feet, still looking Shawn in the eyes. “Are you for real?”
“I’m sure you heard me.” He responded casually.
“Are you in your right frame of mind?”
“I thought you all like it when your man spend on you. You’ve not even opened it to see what it is before you get mad at me.”
I folded my arms. “You don’t just dump gifts before me every fucking time you feel guilty about the way you’ve treated me. It makes you look like a coward. That also applies to being nice after treating me like shit.”
“I don’t know what you are talking about. I saw the piece and felt it would look good on you, so I got it for you.”
“I don’t want it!!!” I said, not caring if I hurt anyone’s feelings. But what the hell was I supposed to do?
“Do whatever the hell you want with it.” Shawn mumbled, then exited the dining room.
I scoffed, jamming my ass against the chair, and staring at the box on the table before me. Nice gestures from someone I wanted to leave so badly? How the hell was I supposed to survive all of these?.
Puffing out some air, I reached for the box and opened it. I instantly felt my eyes get itchy with tears as I took a closer look at the gorgeous piece. It was a gold bracelet. I couldn’t bring myself to take it out of the box or wear it on me because I wasn’t sure what to do with it.
……………………..
Evening time.
I was in the main living room downstairs, flipping through the channels on TV when Doreen interrupted. “Master is on his way to pick you up. Do you need me to call the stylists to come get you ready?” She asked politely.
I brought my fingers to my head and massaged my temple. I couldn’t believe Shawn was still planning to take me to his father’s place after I struck a deal with him this morning.
“I can manage myself. Thank you.” I said to Doreen who nodded, then took her leave.
I rose to my feet, turned off the TV, then made my way to the room to get ready. I was done in no time so I went back downstairs and waited for Shawn to arrive.
………………………….
I thought I had seen it all at Shawn’s place but his father’s mansion was massive. I couldn’t stop staring as Shawn drove into the estate. If they were this rich, why did they come for me, and most importantly, why did they disguise themselves at the registry?
Shawn pulled up in front of the house and almost immediately, I saw a masculine figure come towards us. I only got to see his face clearly when he stood by the car. He had some similar features with Shawn.
I frowned, unbuckling my seatbelt. Shawn has a brother?
He opened the door for me and I got down, thanking him.
“You are welcome, beautiful. My name is Kelvin. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” He smiled, stretching out his hand.
“Cassie!” I let out a nervous smile, receiving his hand, but he brought my hand up to his lips and placed a kiss on the back of my palm. “You look so gorgeous.”
“Get your hands off her!” Shawn’s stern voice came through. I could see him glare at Kelvin.
“You didn’t tell me she was this gorgeous?” Kelvin accused and I couldn’t help with the chuckle that escaped my lips. I know Shawn was blunt but it seems it’s a family thing.
My heart flipped upon realization. He had been talking about me to his brother?
Shawn came to a halt beside us. He placed his hand on the small of my back and I instantly shrugged him off. He didn’t say a word to me on the ride here and neither did he compliment my dressing, but here he was, trying to act all possessive.
Kelvin seemed to notice my gesture towards his brother so he spoke to ease the atmosphere.
“I think we should go in. Dad is waiting for you both.” Kelvin led the way, I followed suit and Shawn was behind me. I could feel his eyes boring holes in the back of my neck but I paid no attention to the feeling.
The interior was even more gorgeous than the outside. We passed through the main living room and eventually got to the dining room where Shawn’s father was waiting for us. As opposed to the baggy clothes he was putting on at the registry, he was in casual clothes and yet they looked so expensive on him. He looked so different from our first encounter and yeah, Shawn and Kelvin definitely got the looks from him.
“Hi,” I said to no one in particular as we approached the dining table. I may be mad at the entire family, but I guess my manners will always be intact.
“Hello, Dad,” Shawn said behind me.
“Glad you both could make it,” Donald responded.
“Here, Let me help you.” Kelvin pulled out a chair for me before I could reach for it. I thanked him and sat on it. I was seated to Donald’s right while Shawn occupied the space to his left.
“Do you drink?” Kelvin asked.
“Mind your business!” Shawn glared at Kelvin.
“She’s my guest. I’ve got every right to care for her.”
“Thanks, Kelv.” You can take your leave. Donald said, shooing him away. My heart sank. So he wasn’t going to join us for dinner?
Ignoring his brother’s glare, Kelvin gave me a wink, then he helped himself out.
Almost immediately, three women in chef uniforms walked out from what I assumed was the kitchen with food bowls which they all neatly arranged on the table along with bottles of champagne.
The most consistent thing I have noticed about rich people is that every meal is a feast.
Each lady attended to us, serving us from the variety of dishes in the quantity we wanted. Then they took their leave.
We dug in immediately.
Shawn and his father discussed business while I ate my food in silence. Even though I was here against my will, the delicious food was making up for all of it.
“How is the prep for my grandchild going?” Donald’s words brought me out of my thoughts.
