                    Cassie’s Pov
I shook my head and at the same time, reached for his hand before they went too far under my dress. “Go to your ex if you are in need of who to fuck.” I was probably being petty but hell, I didn’t care.
Shawn didn’t bother to struggle with me. Instead, he stared at me with a small smile at the corner of his lips. “Stella means nothing to me. You’ve got no reason to be jealous of her. If it would make you feel any better, then I think you should know that she’s married too. I don’t know what you saw online but if I was going to cheat on you, then I would do a clean job.”
I glared at him. I don’t know why, but the thought of Shawn screwing another woman didn’t sit well with me. I felt myself getting even more jealous at the thought of him making another woman feel how he makes me feel.
‘What the hell is wrong with you, Cassie?’ I said in my head, mentally slapping my face.
“It was business and nothing more!” He added.
I instantly rolled my eyes at him.
“And just so you know, I am not shying away from taking you out. You are my wife and soon to be the mother of my kids so the whole world would definitely get to know you. I just want you to get used to this phase of life. We hardly go a day without glaring at each other. You ask me to divorce you almost every day and remember what happened when we had dinner with my client.”
I rolled my eyes again. This time around it was unintentional.
“Don’t do that.” He warned. I could hear the desire in his voice but I ignored it.
“You don’t own me,” I mumbled.
“Then I might as well remind you!”
“Don’t fucking touch me!” I glared at him. Even though my body was saying otherwise right now, I was determined to fight it.
“Okay, this is beyond you being jealous. Tell me, why are you mad at me?”
“If this is about my appearance at the registry, then you can go ahead and be mad at me all you want because I am not going to talk about it.”
I said nothing.
Shawn stared at me intently.
“Come on. Let me hear all that you have to say. You’ve been randomly getting mad at me for no reason.”
“I really want to know what’s going on in your head. Don’t be a coward!”
“Me? A coward?” My eyes went wide. “If anyone is a coward, then it’s you! You are too shy to tell me the real reason you brought me to this house! Once I have your baby, you plan to get rid of me just like your little Mia!”
Shawn released his arms from my waist. I had no idea why I instantly felt cold at his gesture.
“I knew it!” He mumbled. “What other crazy stuff have you been reading about me on the internet?”
“Don’t address me like I’m some stalker!”
“Aren’t you?” He challenged.
“Hell, if you had been honest with me at the start, I wouldn’t be seeking people’s opinion on the man I married.”
“And don’t act like I went around digging things. I searched and it popped up!”
“So that’s the reason for your coldness towards me? Nothing I do would ever make sense to you because you see me as a devil?”
“Stop with that look. Quit trying to guilt trip me.” I said in response to the pain in his eyes.
Shawn scoffed, “After all these while of being with me, you think I would look you in the eye and hurt you?”
“We are not even married for a month yet so I don’t know you. I had no idea you had any siblings; I know nothing about you and yet you want me to trust you and be comfortable with you and everything that you tell me? Come on, just put yourself in my shoes.”
Shawn looked away, he was silent for a while. I was beginning to get uncomfortable by the tension between us so I rose to my feet but he pulled me back on his lap.
“Would you believe me if I told you that the news was false?”
I shook my head. “You confuse me every day.”
“Mia and Stella were best friends. I met them at the same time. Mia was into me, but I connected with Stella more. Mia didn’t take it well. She was obsessed with me and it did so much harm to her mental health. It was so terrible that she was eventually sent to the mental home.”
“There were rumors about Mia having a child for me. At that point, I lost it! I felt guilty enough that someone could think of ending their life just because I don’t feel the same way for them mutually. So tampering with my reputation at the same time angered me so much. But she was tested and we found out she was pregnant.”
“That put a strain on my relationship with Stella because she believed Mia’s word over mine. The child was born, DNA was done and I wasn’t the father. I had no idea what you read on the internet but you should go complete it by looking for the public apology Mia’s family rendered to me.”
I suddenly felt embarrassed, avoiding looking into Shawn’s eyes.
“I have no idea what’s going on in your head but I would rather have you speak up than bottling your emotions. Any explanations I can give, I would give it and the ones I can’t, I would let you know.”
He raised my chin with his fingers so I could look him in the eye. “I am not the most righteous person but that doesn’t mean I’m a terrible man either. Yeah, I can be ruthless but I wouldn’t overstep my boundaries with the ones I respect.”
“You respect me?” I couldn’t help but ask as I stared at the sincerity in his eyes. For someone who had always been treated like trash since I was little, it felt so foreign to hear a man as accomplished as Shawn speak these words to me.”
He chuckled, “What do you think?”
