                    Cassie’s POV
I tried to search for the right words to say but nothing came out when I parted my lips.
“For who?” I mumbled, knowing that I sounded dumb right now. But the truth was that; I was still not comfortable with his nice gestures and I fear that I never will.
“Do you like it?” He asked, ignoring my question.
“It’s beautiful but I hope it’s not for me.”
“You need to get used to this lifestyle,” Shawn mumbled. He took the necklace off the box, tossed the box aside, then walked behind me.
“You smell so good.” He whispered and kissed the nape of my neck. I swallowed painfully when I felt him place the jewelry on my neck. He did that easily because my hair was not in the way. It was parked in a bridal style.
Shawn slowly twirled me around.
“Perfect! You make the jewelry beautiful.”
His statement made reality hit me. “Was that why Tina didn’t want me to use my necklace?”
“You deserve something timeless so I told her I was going to take care of it.” My husband said, calmly.
“But Shawn, isn’t this crazy?” I said, taking a glance at my chest. My eyes got itchy with tears all over again.
“Do you own a jewelry store that I don’t know about?” I couldn’t help but ask. The fact that he was treating this casually freaked me out even more.
Shawn chuckled, then tucked a hand in his pocket. “No, I don’t. But now that you mentioned it, do you want me to open one for you?”
My heart started beating really hard against my chest. “You would do that for me?”
“I’m your husband, is it not my duty to make sure all your needs and wants are provided?” He continued to stare at me intently.
“You clothe me, put a roof over my head, you feed me. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would be entitled to sleep on a very comfortable bed. Plus, I’ve got maids answerable to me. I hardly even do any chores. All of this for the daughter of a debtor?” I tried so hard not to tear up, reminding myself that there was no way I could fix my face if I ruined it.
“I thought we agreed you weren’t going to say that word anymore?” Shawn scolded me.
“But it’s the truth!” I responded.
“The truth they made you believe. You weren’t responsible for the debt. Hell, you didn’t even benefit from it and you think it’s your responsibility to clear it just because his sperm made you?”
“Cut yourself some slack, Classie! It kills me to hear you say that dirty word.”
A cold shiver rolled down my spine due to the tone of his voice.
Shawn took a step closer to me. “I’ve had lots of things in mind that I would like to discuss with you but your probable reactions discourages me.”
“I’m not a terrible person but this is too much.” I look down at my chest again.
“Don’t ask me how much I got it.” He warned.
“How do you know?” I whispered, the guilt not going unnoticed in my voice.
“Because you feel you are not entitled to anything good, sweet and expensive. From now on, I will be keeping price tags away from you.”
“Is that a threat?”
“No.” Shawn shook his head. “I’ll keep doing that until you get comfortable with me buying whatever I want for you.”
Why was I starting to feel guilty?
“The neckpiece is fine. It makes me look even more beautiful but….” Shawn cut me off.
“No. It’s the other way around. It wasn’t looking this pretty before I put it on you.”
“I’m just human, Shawn,” I whispered.
“And so am I. It’s not my fault that you are seeing things differently but I would never lie to your face.”
“Thank you.” I mumbled.
“See! Was that so hard to say?” My husband mocked with a small smile playing on his lips.
“Don’t make me sound ungrateful. I was going to thank you but what’s going to happen to the ones Kay picked out for me?”
Shawn circled his arms around my waist, and pulled me closer to him. “They are all yours and you are going to wear them someday. I want you to build your own collection of jewelry but that doesn’t mean I won’t spoil you from my end.”
Is this normal? Were all men this way?
I swallowed painfully. His touch was slowly making me lose my senses.
“You are so involved with everything that has to do with me.”
“Don’t you like it?”
“It’s so much to get used to,” I confessed.
“That’s why I’m taking baby steps. You are dangerous whenever you are angry.”
I frowned. “You’re worse. Really cocky.”
“Guilty.” He admitted. “Glad you love the necklace.” He said with his eyes on my cleavage. “I’m slowly starting to know your taste. That gives me a sense of responsibility.” He said in relief, with his hands still around my waist.
“It’s seated here.” I pointed at my neck, where the jewelry was.”
“I have every right to stare”
I glared at him. “It’s my body.”
“You’re mine.” Before I could push Shawn off me, he leaned closer and placed a soft kiss on my exposed cleavage. The right part of my boobs.
My breath hitched. Feeling his lips on my skin was starting to make my head go tarry.
“I wanna take you right now.” The desire in Shawn’s eyes caused me to press my thighs together in order to relieve myself of some tension.
I’ve always blamed the universe for making me cross paths with men who had no idea how to satisfy a woman. But Shawn was beginning to surpass my fantasy expectations.
“You don’t have to be shy.” His voice brought me out of my thoughts. He was too detailed. I hated the fact that he could read my mind from the expression on my face.
“I don’t want you,” I mumbled, looking everywhere else but into his eyes.
“You’ve never had a quickie, have you?”
“Shawn!!!!” I finally looked into his eyes and I got even more embarrassed feeling my cheeks heat up. “Why are you this blunt?”
“You are seriously shy of that word after all that we’ve done?” He mocked me and I instantly rolled my eyes at him.
“It’s not the word. It’s the way you said it.”
“I see no reason why I shouldn’t be able to express myself freely before my wife.”
I scoffed, ignoring the way my heart was thumping.
“You are acting as though I’m your prized possession.”
Shawn arched his brow. “Aren’t you?”
“I’m just your wife.”
“Just?” He frowned even deeper.
“You don’t have to pretend. I’m sure you love your company and job more than me.”
Shawn shook his head, with a small smile playing on his lips. “You are not ready for this conversation.”
“And I’m going to have my quickie with you.” Shawn kept staring at me as though I was his favorite snack. I mentally facepalmed, wondering why I consented to be his date tonight.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. We are dressed up and you know how rough you can be.”
Okay, I didn’t mean to say it that way.
He chuckled, “You mean how easily you get carried away when I touch you?”
I rolled my eyes at him, hitting his chest at the same time.
He laughed.
“You don’t have to get all worked up. I said we were going to have a quickie but I didn’t say right now.”
My eyes went wide at the realization of Shawn’s words.
