Cassie’s POV
The driver pulled before a tall and exquisite building. He opened the door for Shawn. Shawn got down and then made his way to the other side of the car. He opened the door for me, then stretched out a hand to help me down. I accepted it while thanking him in a low tone.
He politely pulled me closer to him, then placed his hand on the small of my back. “Remember, you are not to leave my side, don’t pay attention to anyone who gawks at you, and let me know if you feel uncomfortable or if anyone messes with you.”
The possessiveness in Shawn’s voice instantly made me feel secure. Regardless, I was curious to see what an elite’s party entailed.
“Ready?” Shawn asked, then took a slow glance at me. From head to toe. “I hope I’m not putting myself in danger for bringing you here in this fit.”
“I think you hype me too much. I’m not bothered because I know I am not going to be best dressed. I’m sure every woman in there has been attending parties like this since forever so their dresses are going to be masterpieces.”
“If anything, I should be scared of being looked down on.”
“Hype?” Shawn arched a brow at me.
“You always commend me for being blunt and I agree that I am. I wouldn’t spare you if you were ugly. I would say it to your face even if you were my wife. I don’t do hypes.”
I scoffed, slightly rolling my eyes at Shawn. “You just had to ruin the mood, didn’t you?”
“I think I’ve said enough. You will find out the truth yourself.”
Shawn was about to lead the way when I stopped him. “Waittttt!” He looked me in the eye again. “Any final thing I need to know?”
His hand was still on the small of my back so he pulled me close to him, his face being inches away from mine. “It’s just a party.” He assured. “I’m sure no one will dare disrespect you in my face but some people can be jealous and try to do something behind you, Just let me know and I will put them in their place”
“I know you can be shy too but here’s not the place for that. I know you are going to be one of the most beautiful women in there so be proud of it; carry yourself with so much elegance and don’t be ashamed to flaunt it in people’s faces that I am your husband.”
“Ready?” Shawn asked and I nodded, still processing his words. With his hand still on the small of my back, he led me up to the entrance.
We were greeted by two security guards who opened the door for us.
I swallowed painfully the moment Shawn and I stepped into the hall. Apart from my husband and father-in-law's house, this was the most beautiful place I have ever been. The hall was big, gorgeously decorated, and arranged, and soft music was playing in the background. I could see the gift corner that seemed to be overflowing with gifts, the cake stand, the stage, and the hall itself was quite filled with people. Some sitting, some standing and making conversations, and a few mingling. The servers were moving to different stations, making sure all guests had something to eat and drink.
“We didn’t bring anything for the celebrant,” I whispered to Shawn.
“I got it covered.” He responded.
“Good day Sir, Welcome ma.” A lady in a black dress approached us with a smile. She was holding a tab and we were just a few steps away from the entrance door.
Shawn nodded while I gave her a polite smile in return.
“I’m Sofi. Please come with me while I show you to your tables.”
Wait, that was it? She wasn’t going to ask for our names or whatever? I was wondering when it hit me that my husband was a known man.
We walked behind her and with every step we took deeper into the hall, I could feel eyes on us. Me in particular. I tried to distract my mind but God knows I couldn’t wait for us to get to our table.”
“They are staring,” I whispered to Shawn who still had his hand on my lower back.
He smiled. “At you. I can bet with you that they are admiring your beauty.”
“More like they are throwing glares at me,” I said with gritted teeth.
He chuckled softly. “Jealous glares but trust me, they wish they were you right now.”
After what felt like forever and avoiding looking into people’s eyes, we finally got to our table. It was empty and exclusively reserved for us.
“Shawn, Good to see you!” An elderly man approached us. He was in a black suit, and his hair was neatly styled, I don’t know why but he seemed rich. Well, everyone in the hall looked elegant but there was just something extra about this man.
Shawn let go of me and they both hugged each other. “Happy Birthday, Travous.”Shawn wished after which he pulled away from the hug.
Ohhhh. That makes sense now.
“Thank you for coming,” Travous said.
“It’s fine. Thank you for having us. This is my wife, Cassie” Shawn reached for my hand and pulled me closer to him as he introduced us.
Travous threw a small smile at me before turning his attention back to Shawn. “Did I miss something?”
“An asshole never wants to get hitched but when he sees a good woman, he must act fast so he wouldn’t lose her,” Shawn said calmly and I couldn’t help with the shivers that ran down my spine. By the look on his face, he didn’t seem like someone who was making up stories.
Did he really see me that way? And this was something I couldn’t talk to him about because he swore not to give me answers yet.
“But there will be a grand party and you will be invited.” Shawn completed.
‘A wedding party?’ My subconscious uttered in disbelief.
