I let out a deep sigh the moment those two stepped away.
“Okay, what just happened here?” Kelvin chuckled in disbelief, looking in between me and his Dad who was still standing beside me. I was grateful they were here. They protected me. Something I never got in my own family.
“Where is Shawn and why did he leave his wife all to herself?” Donald asked, by the look in his eyes, it was evident that he was not happy with this.
Kelvin frowned. “I’m here, Dad.”
“Where the hell did Shawn go?”
“Am I not capable of looking after my sister-in-law?”
“That crazy child was almost spilling the drink on her. Thanks to my intervention.” Donald explained.
“Yeah, you saved the day but I wouldn’t have let that happen. I saw you coming so I predicted you would stop that.” Kelv explained.
“Shawn is with Don Travous for some meeting. Who are they and how did they get in here? They seem to be very familiar with you both.” Kelvin asked and I swallowed painfully. It was evident that Shawn and his father kept my background away from Kayla and Kelvin. I wonder if they would see me and treat me the same way once they knew.
Donald took a seat beside me.
“She mentioned something about the wedding. She called you names and made mention of a cripple husband. Are you sure she isn’t deranged?”
“That’s my stepmother and stepsister,” I mumbled.
“You said it all, they are deranged. I hope you understand now.” Donald added.
Kelvin’s eyes were instantly filled with worry. “It all makes sense now. I’m so sorry about that. Are you okay? Do you wanna go for a walk outside.”
“No it’s fine, Thank you. I’m used to them.” I responded with a small smile.
“I guess they don’t really know who my brother is?” Kelvin said and I nodded.
“No wonder they are going crazy seeing you here. I will make sure they are thrown out of this party if they come close to you again.” The seriousness on Kelvin’s face caused me to smile bigger.
“Thank you.”
“Enough of the questions. Where’s your date?” Donald asked his son.
Kelvin smiled, taking his phone out of his pocket. “She should be here soon.”
Kev occupied himself with his device for almost a minute before turning his attention back to us. “Oh, that’s the person you are looking for.” He pointed towards the direction of the stage where Shawn stood with Travous’s partners from Italy.
I couldn’t help but stare in admiration even though all of this was false. Shawn was probably going to punish me if he heard my thoughts right now but I’m still yet to believe that this was my reality.
Out of all the men that I’ve been with, Shawn was the most successful, and seeing him with those men made me proud to be called his wife. He was the youngest among them, yet, he stood out. No doubt my husband was an asshole but there was something dangerously interesting about him.
“Should I get you both a room?” Kelvin whispered in my ear and my cheeks started hitting up.
“You can’t stop staring at him. What are you thinking?” he whispered to me as his father was already busy with his phone.
“Aren’t you supposed to be stalking your girlfriend? Where is she? I can’t wait to meet her.”
“No…no….no….. Don’t you dare change the subject?” Kelv warned.
Before I could defend myself. Don Travous took over the stage so all attention was on him. He made his speech and invited Shawn over.
Hearing him say amazing things about my husband made my heart swell with so much pride. I guess this was because it was my first time being associated with a notable person.
Shawn was given the mic to make a speech. My eyes were on him but I almost couldn’t hear anything he was saying.
“Cassie, My love, please join me!” Those words instantly brought me back to reality.
No. That was probably the voice in my head.
My heart began to race when I noticed everyone’s attention on me. Including Shawn’s.
Wait? He really expected me to come join him? What for? But this was not part of our deal.
“Your husband needs you on the stage,” Kelvin whispered in my ear.
“You don’t have to be scared. I’m sure he means well. Go take that first lady walk.” Kelvin pushed.
Since all eyes were on me, I had no choice but to obey. My heart continued to beat really hard against my chest as I slowly rose to my feet.
With every careful step I took, I silently prayed not to embarrass myself.
After what felt like forever, I got to the stage. Shawn’s hand waiting to receive me.

Lauretta’s Pov
Not only was my heart racing with speed, but I felt an indescribable pain in my heart.
“Mom” I turned to my side. The look on my mother’s face was not any better than mine either.
“What the hell is going on here?” I whispered, trying so hard to control all of the rage I was feeling.
My mom seemed too shocked to respond. Her eyes were in the direction of Cassie. In fact, everyone’s eyes at this event were on her. How the hell can she be a liar and get so much attention at the same time?
“Wait? Is she seriously going to walk up to the stage to meet him?” I said in disbelief when she rose to her feet. She looked nervous, shy, and shocked.
What a pretentious scheming bitch!
“I curse the day I didn’t stab her with that knife when she was asleep!” My mom mumbled beside me.
“What is happening, mom? Didn’t she marry a cripple like you said? Why is she at this party? How did she meet these people? Most importantly, how come my husband knows her name?” I knew I needed to be strong but at this point, my eyes were itchy with tears. I just wanted to go closer to her and pull her hair off.
Nothing was more painful than watching my step-sister walk up to the stage. In as much as I hate to admit it, her aura screamed elegance. With every step that she took, it was as though she was born for this. Oh my God, this was so unfair. That was meant to be me. I was meant to be the star of the night but she had to appear from hell to steal my shine!
‘No, this can’t be happening to me. I need to do something. Someone do something!’ My subconscious screamed.
“She’s so pretty.”
“Just take a look at her body. She has a figure that I would die for.”
“Her dress! That looks like Russel’s piece. It costs a fortune.”
“The diamond on her neck too! I really want to be her right now.”
“I’ve been stealing glances from her since she walked in with Shawn. I wonder who she is and why I haven’t heard about her.” The three women before me mumbled turn by turn, making my chest boil with even more anger and jealousy. No way they were worshipping that bitch before me.
“She’s a gold digger! Don’t believe all you see.” I mumbled before I could help myself.
All the women turned their heads backward to look at me.
The one in the middle stared at me in disgust. “You seem jealous!” She spat.
“Don’t talk trash about her.” My mother who was standing beside me defended me.
The woman transferred the disgusting looks to my mom. “You two are bitter.”
I had no idea what I was about to do but I was moving close to the woman in the middle when my mom stopped me by holding on to my hand. “They don’t matter. Let’s focus on why we are here.” She whispered.
The other women were quick to turn their faces back to the stage except the one in the middle. “You both are putting on fake dresses yet you have the guts to talk down on someone else.” She scoffed, then turned her attention back to the stage.
