Lauretta’s pov
My eyes went wide. I had taken a very detailed look at our dresses and I could bet that anyone would mistake it for being original. If they were unrealistic, trust me, Mom and I wouldn’t be putting them on. She had to be a designer or a witch. But I bet you that it’s the latter!
“They are not, okay! And don’t you dare speak nasty about us?” I said in a very low tone, not wanting to make a scene especially since the hall was kind of quiet.
I hadn’t even achieved anything tonight and my mental health was a mess already.
“Ignore them, my love. We will come back to them later.” Mom assured me.
“We need to find a way to expose her. This is not fair. Everyone is staring at her with so much admiration. They need to know who she truly is.”
“I can let go of everything but not her trying to steal my man,” I said as that witch finally got to the stage.
Shawn held out his hand, waiting to receive her.
I turned to Mom once again. “Where the hell is her cripple husband? Isn’t he aware that his wife is whoring around?”
“You saw all that happened earlier. Her father-in-law is using her as a pornstar. That’s probably their means of survival.”
“She can be a whore before anyone but she better stay the hell away from my man,” I mumbled, unaware of the doom that was about to befall me.
Shawn took her hand carefully in his. He pulled her closer and kissed her.
……………….
He kissed her. He fucking kissed my ugly step-sister before the crowd? And the weird guests had the nerve to cheer them up.
My eyes were filled with heavy tears. I have never been this humiliated.
“Mom….this is a dream, right? Please wake me up.” I whispered, trying my hardest not to break down.
“No way!” My mom mumbled in disbelief. It wasn’t even a quick kiss but a deep one that kept most of the guests drooling.
“What the hell is going on Mom? Why is she kissing my husband?” I said in frustration. My voice was louder than usual here. The environment was noisy because of the cheers so they wouldn’t hear me anyways.
“Keep calm, my love. We will get to the root of this. Let them get off the stage. She’s definitely making a fool of herself because there is no way we are leaving here without you being Shawn’s woman. She’s a fake and fake does not last. Please, calm down my love. I don’t know how but I’m sure she tricked him.
“Just take a look at that dude? How come he is the happiest?” I gestured towards the man we saw earlier with Cassie. “Wasn’t he the one flirting with her? How many men is she with and how did she get to know them?”
“I’m sure her gold-digging father-in-law arranged all of it. He’s using her to get money from rich men and she has no choice but to obey him. But don’t worry, baby. We are going to expose them shortly. They are going to be pleading for mercy from us.
I puffed out some air and turned my attention back to the stage.
I scoffed when Shawn pulled away from Cassie.
“Bitch!” I mumbled, seeing her try to hide her blush.
Shawn pulled her closer to him and placed one hand on the small of her back whilst the microphone remained on the other hand.
“You all, my gorgeous wife, Cassie Elias.”
There was a round of applause, followed by loud whispers.
My eyes met with my mom. “Wife? You said he wasn’t married?”
My mom shook her head, her eyes not leaving the people on the stage. “You of all people should know that I don’t give false news. If he is truly married, then why are there loud murmurs? The rich definitely know how to play dirty. I’m sure this is just an act. It has to be.”
A man in a grey suit walked up the stage and handed Shawn an envelope. He let go of his hand on Cassie’s waist and accepted the envelope which he subsequently handed to Don Travous.
“These are the documents for your new home in Risseus Estate. From my wife and I, with so much love.”
The guests went crazy and there was another round of applause. At this point, I didn’t care about the crowd’s reaction because my heart was filled with so much jealousy. Risseus Estate? Only the cream of the society lived there. A building there was worth generational wealth. It made me wonder how rich Shawn Elias was. But I instantly made up my mind that I wasn’t going to cheated. Especially not by my bloody step-sister.
Don Travous was surprised and happy. His wife joined him on the stage, and they both pulled Shawn and Cassie in a hug, thanking them.
At this point, I wasn’t bothered about all that was happening up there anymore. I was waiting patiently so I could let the whole world know who Cassie really was.
The celebrant and his friends descended the stage. Shawn and Cassie approached their table. I was about to make my way over there when Mom held my hand.
“What again, Mom? Until she fucks him and gives birth to him before I fight for what belongs to me?” At this point, I didn’t care if anyone heard me. All I knew was that I wasn’t ready to be a failure by letting someone undeserving take what belonged to me.
“I understand your worry but do you think I’m happy about all of these? Yes, I know we want Cassie to pay for all her actions but we need to take note of the people around.”
I scoffed! “Do you know how much a building in Risseus costs to give that as a gift? As far as I’m concerned, Shawn is the richest man in this room, hence, he is the only person I should be shy or afraid of. This opportunity might never present itself again so I’m going to make the best of it.” I wriggled my hand out of Rhoda’s hold, then stormed towards the table where the two fake lovebirds were.
“How dare you take what belongs to me!” I was almost hitting Cassie on the cheek when my hand got stuck in the air.
