                    Lauretta’s POV
“Cassie’s name as one of the donors of Risseus? Are you freaking kidding me?” I challenged Joel, ignoring whatever my mom said. “What did she even do to deserve that? It’s hardly a month since she got married and she did to a cripple. Not Shawn. I really do not understand what is going on but Shawn is not being truthful either.” I said at a go, ignoring the tricks that my mind was playing on me about Cassie having a better life than me.
“I get that you are furious but I am only telling you what I know. That document didn’t look fake and besides, my uncle instantly got a text from the estate company, congratulating him on being a resident.”
“What?” I said in disbelief, my eyes wide.
“Also, he wouldn’t want to ruin his reputation before his father and brother,” Joel said.
I frowned. “His father and brother are in there?”
“When we got to the dessert table, you left me to go attend to some people.”
I shook my head. “That was my step-sister, her lover, and her asshole father-in-law.”
Joel stared at me as though I had grown horns in my head. “Didn’t you notice the resemblance between them?”
“What resemblance?” I whispered. Hell, I was really pissed, the last thing on my mind was to take note of the guests in there who were related to each other.
“Well, that’s Shawn’s brother and father. Kelvin Elias and Donald Elias.”
“No, you are mistaken. That dude was literally flirting with Cassie. And there’s no way that old dude is related to my Shawn.”
“Your Shawn?” He arched a brow at me.
“Yes. He’s my crush and I know he likes me too. Sadly my step-sister stabbed me in the back. She bewitched him.”
“This is getting too complicated,” Joel whispered. “I came out here to offer some support but I think the crowd may be right about you. If you know Shawn well, you won’t be making these statements.”
“Shawn Elias is very detailed and thorough. I don’t believe he would make any decision or associate with a person without conducting a proper check. We all know how important the role of a wife is in a man’s life. Do you think someone as educated and successful as Shawn would choose a woman that would destroy him?”
“Kelvin was probably protecting his sister-in-law in the absence of his brother. Her father-in-law came to the rescue when you attempted to spill the drink on her. That’s how they are; extremely protective of their own.”
Joel’s words pierced my heart even more and I felt tears rush up to my eyes.
“Mom?!” I stared at her in disbelief. She was also as confused as I was right now. The only difference was that she didn’t have tears in her eyes.”
“T…..they still haven’t been married for up to a month and he is already putting properties in her name?”
“That’s the sign of a man who knows what he wants!” Joel said casually. “Whatever belongs to him belongs to her.”
“I think I understand what’s happening.” My mom finally said in a whisper. “I was tricked.”
“Come on Mom, You couldn’t even do a proper check on the person you were marrying that witch to?” I said at the top of my voice. At this point, tears rolled down my cheeks. The thought of my step-sister living the life of my dreams made me jealous as hell.
“She’s Shawn’s bride.” My mother started to say to Joel, referring to me being Shawn’s bride. “Cassie tricked us all. She made us look like liars. Please help us back in. If anything, I owe it to my daughter to make things right. Please!”
“You all should take your leave.”
“No son.” My mom instantly held onto Joel’s hands. “You have to help us. Please” Tears couldn’t stop rolling down my cheeks. I couldn’t believe this was happening after so much had been anticipated for. If only I can lay my hands on that witch right now.
“My uncle gave the orders. I can’t go against them. There’s CCTV around. I advise you to take your leave before you are thrown off the premises too.” Joel withdrew his hand from my mother’s and went back into the hall.
My lips quivered, my legs gave up, I landed on the floor and I burst into uncontrollable tears.

Cassie’s Pov.
“I sincerely apologize for that. I will make sure they pay for this.” Don Travous said the moment they approached us. Thankfully, all faces were now off us as the guests had gone back to what they were doing and the song resumed playing in the background.
“I let out a nervous smile. “No, it’s fine.”
“One-minute Travous. We will be right back.” Shawn said. He intertwined his hand with mine, and led me out of the main hall into a hallway.
He came to a halt before a door, opened it, and gestured for me to go in.
I obeyed.
It was a really small room with a desk, a sofa, and a TV. It was neat but cozy.
I heard the sound of a lock which made me stop in my tracks. I took a glance behind me and saw Shawn coming over after securing the locks.
I swallowed painfully when he came to a halt before me.
“You okay?” My heart skipped at the worry I saw in his eyes.
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak.
“Do you want us to leave?” I knew he promised me that we were going to take our leave if I ever get uncomfortable but I had no idea he was going to be true to his words.
“No need to leave. Now that they are gone, I should be fine.” Truly, I didn’t want to go home yet. I wanted to have some good food, take note of what goes on at events like this, and also meet Kev’s girlfriend.
“Are you sure?” He mumbled, sneaking both arms around my waist and at the same time, looking deep into my eyes.
Coming from a place where no one cared about my feelings, this was definitely weird. Weird but felt good to have someone worry about me.
“Yes,” I answered in all honesty. I felt my heart start to beat faster due to his closeness.
“Sorry about that!” I uttered.
“You did nothing wrong. I commend you for putting them in their place. No one messes with my wife and goes scot-free.”
I felt a tingle in my stomach. He called me his wife with so much pride.
“I didn’t want to embarrass you,” I said shyly.
“No, you didn’t. You just passed a message to everyone that you wouldn’t fail to put them in their place if they try to take what’s yours.”
I felt my cheeks heating up. “I think you were referring to yourself cos why did you kiss me?”
“To show the men eyeing you that you and I had a thing and it was pretty serious. I needed to put those hags in their place.”
“Shhhhhhh!” Shawn shunned me before I could respond to him. “Your dress. Let me fix it.” He seemed serious and I was starting to get bothered, hoping I hadn’t ruined the beauty.
I looked down at my dress trying to locate the defect when I felt Shawn’s hand on my shoulder. He gently pushed me against the desk, lifted me, and made me sit on the hard surface.
I felt my heart racing really hard. “Shawn?”
He parted my legs and snuck a hand in between my thighs, Then stared deep into my eyes. He looked so innocent, yet I could see the desire in his eyes.
I swallowed painfully when I felt his finger on my panties. He slowly shifted it to my bikini line.
“Shawn!” I honestly had no idea why I voiced out his name.
“You want to ride me instead?” The desire in his voice didn’t go unnoticed.
“Fuck!” I bit my lower lip when he started to rob my clit in circular motions.
“Someone might hear us.”
“There might be cameras,” I added.
“I like that you are self-conscious. But we are all good.”
Shawn took his hand off me and then started to unbuckle his pants.
“I don’t care if anyone hears us. We aren’t doing anything illegal.”
My husband pulled me closer to the edge of the desk, then slowly pushed his dick inside of me.”
Shawn let out a satisfied groan. “I love how you are always wet for me.”
