Shawn’s Pov
Yes, I was angry because my wife put her life in danger over a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in minutes if she had opened up to me. I was also mad at myself for not going after her immediately when she left the table and most importantly, I was pissed to know that Stella did all of these and made her believe her nasty statements.
But I started to hate myself all over again when tears rolled down Cassie’s cheeks.
I puffed out some air, then brought my hand up to wipe her tears but she slapped my hand away before I could touch her face.
“Don’t touch me.” She sniffled, glaring at me at the same time.
“ I shouldn’t have let you leave my side in the first place. I know I said some harsh words, but it’s the truth. I care about you, but sometimes you really push me to the edge. Stella is my ex, of course, she’s not going to tell you anything good about me.”
“So, she didn’t leave you because you were not ready to start a family?” Cassie challenged.
Those were some of the reasons. Stella and I had a very complicated relationship, but if I wanted a family, I knew she just wasn’t the one for me. Besides, people change. I wasn’t ready then, but now, I’m prepared.”
“I’m not saying I’m not going to protect you, but Stella would try her best to make you doubt yourself and hate me. Yes, I wouldn’t deny that I used to be very crazy over her, but that’s not the case anymore, and she knows that. I dated her for many years but never popped the question, and then there’s you. She feels you are not enough to be my wife.”
“Then divorce me!” Cassie interrupted. I thought she was mocking my statement, but the look in her eyes was stern.
“Not going to happen.”
“I’m not going to live my life based on what people think about us. I’m grown and I know what I want.”
“I understand that you met her in an unexpected place but I promise you that she’s nothing but a jealous bitch?”
“You are free to be yourself, but I need you to start acting like the real Mrs Elias. I’ve seen you refuse me and be stubborn with me. Folks like Stella need to be put in their place.”
“I will take care of this and make sure such never repeats itself.”
Cassie said nothing.
I ran a hand over my hair. “I’m sorry.”
“I don’t need your apology.” While being careful of her sprained hand, Cassie tossed the duvet aside.
My wife was about to get off the bed when I spoke. “Where are you headed?”
“I’m sure you’ve got better things to do than to worry about me.” Cassie glared at me, still seated.
“You are my wife, so you are my priority.” I reminded.
“Please stop!” She groaned. “I’m sure you’ve got a lot more things that you value more than me.”
I scoffed! “You’ve made up your mind, haven’t you? Nothing I’m gonna say is going to please you. I’ve tried to embrace you, made you feel welcome in the most beautiful way possible but you’ve refused to pull yourself out of that shitty mentality.”
“Do whatever the hell suits you, and you are free to think what you want.”
Ignoring the tear that rolled down Cassie’s cheek, I rose to my feet and stormed out of the room.

Cassie’s Pov.
I sobbed the moment Shawn slammed the door shut. Even though I hated to admit it, some parts of his statements were valid. He and his family had made me feel loved even more than my stepfamily. They all cared about me. But why did Stella’s words get to me so much? Why did it make me feel as though I am unworthy of all the love and attention I was getting? Maybe because I still feel like all of this is a dream. It was so hard to fit in, and I know I never will.
I had no idea what was causing me to tear up so much. Shawn’s words or the tone he said them with. This wasn’t his first time raising his voice at me but this got to me so much.
I had idea how long I cried, but I saw myself wiping my face with the back of my palm when a knock came through on the door.
“Come in.” My voice came out hoarse, but I tried to stay composed regardless.
The door opened, and it was Doreen. She took slow steps into the room and came to a halt before the bed.
“Good morning, ma’am. Do you feel better?”
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak.
“Master told me to come help you out. The doctor will be here soon to check up on you. Can you manage yourself or do you want me to assist you in the shower?” Doreen said politely.
“How soon will he get here?”
“I’m not sure, but maybe in half an hour,” She responded.
“I will manage.”
“Are you sure, ma’am?” She asked, and I nodded.
“What would you like to have for breakfast?”
“Not hungry,” I mumbled.
“Master insists you eat something because the doctor is going to administer drugs when he comes.”
“Where is he?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“He left for work.”
I frowned. “How?” Remembering I woke up to him putting on the clothes he wore the previous day.
“He’s got a cabin close to the office. I think he is going to get ready there.”
“Wow!” I mumbled. So many things about my husband that I do not know of.
I guess Stella was right in the end. I wasn’t Shawn’s priority.

Shawn’s Pov
“I thought I made it clear that I don’t want to see anyone.” I scolded over the phone without even looking at the caller ID.
“Heyyyy! Don’t lose it. It’s me.” The familiar voice came through.
I took my phone away from my ear and glanced at the device just to confirm.
