Shawn’s POV
The statement was a very disturbing one, especially since it had to do with my deepest desire in my life, but I tried not to let their words get to me.
“What do you mean?” I asked Lauretta who scoffed at my question.
“I knew it! Of course she’s a gold digger, so she wouldn’t open up to you.”
“Don’t you call Cassie names, or I won’t regret what I’m going to do to you.” I said with gritted teeth, ignoring my racing heart.
“Come on, Son. We are not your enemy so you don’t have to look at us in a nasty way. Cassie is not who she paints herself to be. Why would you want anyone’s left over? If you and your father had revealed real identities to me, I would have let you know that she’s just a waste of time.”
“Cassie had been married to a number of disgusting men who got her pregnant, and she got rid of multiple pregnancies that I lost count of,” Rhoda said.
“Her last pregnancy almost ended her life. The doctor revealed her womb is destroyed, hence her ex-husband divorced her because she can never give him a child.” Cassie's step sister added.
“She’s barren and has nothing to offer you. Do you know how tacky she looks beside you? I wouldn’t lie, I had a sleepless night knowing you put her name in your property.”
“Lori!!!!” Her mother cautioned her while I continued to stare.
“No, mom. We need to let him know how evil she is. We all know Cassie doesn’t deserve the life she has now. She manipulated him, and we’ve got to help him out!” She said to Rhoda before turning her attention to me.
She took three steps towards me. “I’ll be a better wife to you, baby. I will give you as many children as you want. I’m willing to do anything for you. That includes staying at home and looking after our beautiful kids.”
“I know all the trends, so you will be proud of me.” She smiled and zipped down her shirt a bit, exposing her already exposed cleavage. “ I’m way prettier than Cassie. I’ve got a good social media presence, and Cassie barely finished school, but I graduated with good grades. I'm sure you don’t want anyone knowing a billionaire with great influence like you got married to someone who can hardly read and write.”
“But I am well equipped to train our children. I know everything about your business, which makes me a good help to you, unlike Cass, who knows nothing. I don’t mean to brag, but it’s obvious that I’m better than her. You are my husband, Shawn.” She whispered her last statement and almost brought her hand up to me when I threw her a nasty glare that made her keep her hand to herself.
“You knew you couldn’t bear me a child and yet you pushed her to me!!!!” I attacked Rhoda, who jumped on her feet, looking nervous due to the tone of my voice.
“Do you know I can sue you for that?”
“Please don’t do that!” She said immediately. “I was just fulfilling her father’s wish. He died leaving us with huge debts, and he made it known that Cassie was going to pay for them. I couldn’t go against the last wishes of a dead man.”
“But I would have made an exception for you if I knew who you are. You are a respectable man, and of course, you deserve a decent woman by your side. This is why I said it’s important for us to see you. It would be so unfair if we didn’t tell you the truth.” Rhoda said, after which her lips curved into a beautiful smile.
“I’m not saying this just because she’s my daughter but it’s obvious she is better than that witch who bears the title of your wife.”
“What are you trying to say?” I asked, staring at both mother and daughter.
A big smile crept to Lauretta’s lips and she totally closed the gap with me. “Divorce her and marry me.”
“Yes! Lori is the perfect wife.” Rhoda added, grinning.
“So what’s going to happen to Cassie?” I asked.
Rhoda scoffed, shrugging her shoulders at the same time. “I’m sure she’s used to this. Everyone dumps her. She knows she’s not good enough, so I’m sure she will handle the news well.”
“Yeah!” Lauretta added. “A fourth-time divorcee wouldn’t look terrible on her CV.” She was almost bringing her hand to my face when I shrugged her hand away. The smile slowly left her lips.
“Don’t you dare!” I pointed at Lori, taking a step towards her. Out of fear of the tone of my voice and the anger in my eyes, she took two steps backwards. “Talk about my wife that way.”
“But we just told you how evil she is,” Rhoda said in disbelief. They were probably shocked about my decision because they thought that they had worn me.”
I turned to Rhoda. “What do you both take me for? You think I would come disguised to marry a woman without any valid reason? After all that you all put her through, you had the guts to come here to lie to my face?”
Lori shook her head in fear while Rhoda’s lips quivered, not finding the right words.
“Cassie means so much to me, and the only reason why I’m letting you both off is because she is agaianst me attacking you all. But this is going to be the final warning. After this, I won’t think twice before putting you all in jail for any slander or attack on her.”
“Let this be the last time you filthy humans ever appear before me or set foot on any of my properties.” Rhoda was almost interrupting me, but I cut her off.
“Disobey me and I give you my word that you all will spend the rest of your lives begging for mercy.”
Throwing both mother and daughter a final glare, I stormed out of the office.
I met two security guards just right outside the door. “Throw them out!” I commanded.
