                    Shawn’s Pov
I was confident in myself and my feelings but it was so hard tossing away the words of those two witches.
I heaved a deep sigh, pushed the papers on the desk before me further away, and reached for my phone. I went through my contact list and dialed a number. I brought the device to my ear and patiently waited for the person on the other end to answer.
“Shawn!!!! Good to hear from you!” The familiar masculine voice came through.
“Same here, Hues. Sorry I called out of the blue. Is this a good time to talk?”
“Sure! What is it, Son?”
I brought my free hand to my forehead and slowly massaged my temple. “I was quick to dial his number so I didn’t think of how I was going to present my thoughts to him.
“Is there a way to make a woman conceive?”
I shut my eyes for a moment and mentally slapped myself in the head. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean it that way. But I believe science has advanced so much so there should be a way, right?”
“Okay, Son. I think I understand where you are coming from. But there’s more to the process than what you think.”
“If a couple is trying to conceive, then there has to be some history. A series of tests would be carried out and sometimes, the fault could be with the man. It could be a low sperm count or any other related factor.”
“That being said, the results of the tests will lead to necessary solutions. But no hope is lost as there’s surrogacy and IVF as alternatives. Adoption as well.”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t meant to ask this. My anxiety just got out of hand.”
“It’s fine. It’s not a bad thing to want to have knowledge about situations. But one thing is sure, you can’t conclude about not being able to conceive when no tests have been carried out. The couples may be fine and sometimes it could be due to stress, mostly on the part of the woman, making it difficult for a baby to stay. Her health and wellbeing matters the most in these times.”
“Noted. I feel better about it now. Thank you.”
Hues and I talked some more after which the conversation came to an end.
Hardly had I placed my phone back on the desk when it buzzed. Looking at the caller ID, I saw that it was my sister.
“Don’t tell me you are still at work?” Her stern voice came through.
“I am,” I answered, staring absentmindedly at the papers before me.
“Why?”
“Just go straight to the point, Kay. I know you were at my home. You are free to scold me.”
She sighed. “God, I hate you rich people.”
I arched my brow, fighting the smile that was trying to escape my lips. “And you are?”
“The poorest of my siblings. You could literally break into my house while I’m away and I’m not going to know.”
“Poorest of your siblings?” I reiterated.
“Come on. You know I’m speaking the truth but I don’t mind. I’m content with what I have.”
“I know. Thank you for standing up for my wife.”
“You really need to do something about those two, Shawn. Who knows what they're going to do tomorrow?”
“They will receive the restraining order. In as much as I would love to deal with them my own way, Cassie doesn’t want me to hurt them, just for the sake of her late father.”
“They wish her bad and yet, she’s still protecting them.” Kay mumbled.
“Yeah, that’s her weakness. Her good heart.”
“I don’t care how busy you are but you really need to show her more love. Those witches messed a lot with her head and she hardly sees herself deserving of any good thing. They gave so many shitty reasons why you should get married to her step-sister.”
“You’re not bothered about being confused?” I asked Kay.
“It doesn’t matter what the story is. It’s just so clear that those two want to ruin Cassie. They want you. And Cassie fears they might strike hard. She says they stop at nothing when it comes to what they want.”
“I’ll talk to my wife. She has nothing to worry about. I will put them in their place.”
“Did she eat? Take her meds?”
“Doreen said she had quite an episode this afternoon?” I added.
“Yes. But she was feeling much better by the time I left. She didn’t eat much either.”
“Even when she’s well, I do force her to eat. So I can imagine how little her appetite is.”
I heard my sister chuckle.
“What’s that?”
“It feels so good to hear you in love.”
“You are so impossible, Kay.”
“I’m being honest.”
“Your wife reunited us and I’ll forever be grateful to her.”
“You sound as though I abandoned you.”
“Yeah! Kind of. We were not exactly enemies but we hardly had any conversations or saw each other. It was just Dad being the middleman.”
“True! But that still doesn’t give you the right to tease me.” I warned.
“Oh, I cannot promise you that since it’s my newfound hobby.”
“You’re so impossible,” I mumbled.
I heard Kay giggle.

Lauretta’s Pov
“This is insane! I am convinced that bitch charmed the whole family.”
“Can you please quit pacing up and down. You are making me dizzy.” Mom said to me but I ignored her.
“That’s impossible, Mom. How do you expect me to be calm when I’m being cheated on?” I said, coming to a halt before her where she was seated. “She’s in that mansion, being treated like a queen while I’m here, wasting away.”
“Please don’t speak that way, baby.” Mom urged.
“Of course, I’m speaking the truth. This is literally the hardest phase of life I have ever experienced. We put so much effort into being here. We’ve done everything in our power. I was so confident again that Shawn was going to make me his wife before the end of today, but look what happened?”
“It sucks to even shed a tear because it’s all useless. Why would I be depressed over a gold digger? I’m done fuming and crying. All I need is a minute with her so I can end her life once and for all.”
“So what do you have in mind?” Mom asked me and at this point, it was clear that she was fed up with the situation because I’m usually the one to ask questions while she comes up with solutions.”
“Nothing specific yet but I’m not giving up. I’m going to keep trying my best to get close to Shawn. If I can’t have him, then I hope Cassie is ready to live a miserable life because she will never be happy with him either.” I said, then turned my attention back to my mom. “Maybe you should talk to Donald.”
Mom arched a brow at me. “Weren’t you against it? What made you change your mind?”
“Come on, mom. You are the one who is overthinking. I only said you should talk to him and not fuck him. And if fucking him would make Shawn mine, then I really do not mind.”
My mother stared at me as though I’ve got horns on my head.
