Cassie’s POV
“Where are we? I thought we were going to meet Shawn.” I stared in confusion, asking the duo who were seated in front.
I don’t know how but the gate before us opened itself, after which Henry drove in.
“Unfortunately, Master has something important to attend to but there’s someone inside who will take care of you.”
I frowned even deeper, not understanding a dime that rolled off Enoch’s tongue. If I hadn’t seen Henry at the registry yesterday, I would have honestly thought that I had been kidnapped.
Henry pulled up in front of the house. Pardon me, this was not a house but a freaking mansion!
They both got out of the car. I was still figuring out how to push the door open when Henry opened the door for me and bowed.
“What for?” I mumbled, not understanding all that was going on in my life right now.
Henry left, then went ahead to retrieve my bag from the trunk.
“This is really Shawn’s home?” I asked Enoch, slowly taking in my surroundings.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Bu….b…..” I tried to voice out my thoughts but I ended up stammering. First, he wasn’t crippled, and now this? How? Rhoda would never have signed me up to him if she was aware that Shawn had money.
“Is he a drug lord? A mafia?” I had no idea what I was saying but I needed someone to talk to before I went crazy.
“Master is a good person. That’s all I can say. Please come with me.” Enoch said and started making his way towards the entrance door. As confused as I was, I took slow steps behind him, still looking around. Henry was behind me with my bag.
A woman who seemed to be in her early thirties stepped out. She was in a maid uniform and she had a polite smile on her face.
“Doreen, She is…” Enoch was saying but I interrupted him. “It’s fine. You don’t have to throw it in my face. Let her give me my uniform. I will start cleaning.” I said, concluding that that was why I was here. All the workers here probably have the same fate as me.
“Sorry?” Enoch stared at me with creased brows.
“It’s fine, I think she got it all wrong.” The lady in the maid uniform said.
“I’m Doreen and I’m your personal maid. It’s good to meet you, Ma.” She said, then collected my bag from Henry who immediately excused himself and went back to the car.
“I’ve got other errands to run for master. Doreen will make sure you are well taken care of.” Enoch said, then took his leave. He joined Henry in the car.
“Please come with me, Ma'am,” Doreen said, pushing the door open.
I followed her in, instantly coming to a halt just a few steps away from the door. My eyes scanned the environment. I had never been somewhere this beautiful and luxurious. I instantly felt out of place.
Doreen stopped in her tracks the moment she realized I wasn’t following her. She came back to meet me by the door. “You okay, ma?”
“Shawn’s home?” I asked again, wondering what else he lied to me about.
“Yes, ma. I thought I was going to show you around after you’ve had your rest but I can do that now if you want.”
Doreen placed my duffel bag on a nearby couch and then started giving me a tour. Three living rooms; two downstairs and one upstairs, a massive kitchen with pantry, dining room, theatre room, games room, two bathrooms downstairs, and six bedrooms that were en-suite. There was also a swimming pool and a staff quarters behind the house.
“This is the master bedroom and where you will be staying. I’m not allowed in so you would need to do the tour yourself.” Doreen said when we came to a halt in front of the door.
“I will bring your bag shortly but what would you like to have for breakfast, ma?”
“Cassie. Can you call me that instead?”
Doreen shook her head. “I respect your wishes but you would have to pardon me on this.”
I sighed. “When is Shawn coming home?”
Doreen gave me a polite smile. “My duty is to care for your personal needs. Anything outside that, I’m sorry I can’t be of help.”
I scoffed, wondering if the staff here were under some sort of secrecy or whatever.
“I need to go. Please excuse me.” Doreen bowed, then took her leave.
“This is insane,” I mumbled, connecting my hand to the door handle. The door opened and my jaw was literally on the floor. I placed my right hand on the left and pinched my arm to assure myself that this wasn’t a dream. I could confidently say that this was the finest space in this house. The bed was two times bigger than what was provided at the hotel. My subconscious said to me and then it struck me.
“If this was truly Shawn’s place, then why did he let us spend the night at the hotel?”

“You look distracted. What’s troubling that head of yours?” Kelvin, who was seated opposite Shawn asked, staring at his older brother suspiciously.
Shawn heaved a deep sigh. He rested his back against the chair, then brought his hand to his necktie, releasing the little piece of clothing a bit.
“She’s a handful.” He said sternly.
Kelvin chuckled, “Your wife?”
“You both are one day in and you are exhausted already.”
Shawn rolled his eyes at his brother.
“You better spill. I might be able to help since I’ve had more successful relationships than you.”
“I’m going to chase you out of my office,” Shawn warned.
“Now’s not the time to be pompous. You really need some help.”
“Then why the hell am I not following the script?”
Kelvin arched his brow. “What script?” Then it hit him as the frown was slowly replaced with a smile. “You didn’t think you were going to get attracted to her?”
“I’m not!” Shawn said sternly.
“Then why do you feel so mad at yourself?” Kelvin stared suspiciously. “Probably because I am not used to sharing my space with anyone.”
“I get you. I know how private you can be. I also know I’ve got no business intruding in your personal life but I think you feel this way because you are in denial of what you feel and trust me, you are going to feel worse if you keep bottling up all of the feelings.”
Shawn heaved a deep sigh and ran his fingers through his neatly styled hair. “I went a bit far with her yesterday. I shouldn’t have.”
“Oh please, wipe that smirk off your face.” Shawn scoffed at his brother.
“The reason you got married to her is best known to you. Having a wife means inviting another person into your space. I don’t know what you mean by going a bit too far since she’s your wife. But since you feel so uneasy, then I guess you are the one who offended her.”
“I have never met anyone as stubborn as she is. I don’t regret anything that happened last night but I left this morning without a proper goodbye. I wonder why I feel terrible about it.”
“Hmm!” Kelvin mumbled, resting his back against the chair he was seated on, ignoring the glares Shawn was throwing his way.
“For someone like you who does not give two fucks about people, I really find this interesting. I cannot wait to meet her.”
“Don’t you dare set foot in my home!” Shawn warned.
“Okay! You need to chill!” Kevin laughed, raising both hands.
“Since you feel guilty about it, how about you shove your pride down your throat and apologize to her.”
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I just have no idea why I feel bad about it.”
“So you would rather carry the burden in your heart than to free yourself?” Kelvin mocked.
“We are done with this meeting. I think you should take your leave.”
“Okay, how about you send a text if you cannot do it in person.”
“I’m not sure she has a phone,” Shawn mumbled.
“Really?” Kelvin stared in disbelief. “What planet is she from?”
Shawn rolled eyes at his brother, then slowly massaged his temple.
“As I said before, the reason for your marriage was best known to you but the truth is that; you have a wife now and you should try your best to be good to her if you don’t want to feel terrible all the time.”

Cassie’s POV
I had my bath, changed into a clean dress, then went downstairs for lunch. I was shocked to see a table prepared for me.
“Is Shawn and his friends joining us?” I tore my eyes off the dining table and looked at Doreen.
“No, Ma.”
“But I can’t finish all of these!” I pointed at the table which was filled with different kinds of breakfast that could last five days.
“It’s fine, Ma. Just eat as much as you can. You are new here so we are still exploring your favorites and least favorites.”
“So you are going to trash the rest?” I said in disbelief. I lost count of how many times I went to bed on an empty stomach and the thought of many others going through that while wasting food made me uncomfortable.”
“No, it won’t be trashed. Master is against waste. Just eat as much as you can and we will take care of the rest.”
Doreen drew out a chair for me at the end of the table. I thanked her and sat on it. The table was filled with mouth-watering varieties. Doreen served me and poured me a glass of fresh food. She then gave me privacy to enjoy my meal.
Nothing was more satisfying as I chewed the items on my plate. I helped myself with more eggs from the serving dish.
I was about to clear the table when Doreen came in.
“Please don’t worry about that, Ma. We will take care of it.”
“No, it’s fine. The least I can do is wash my dishes.” I persuaded.
Doreen gave me a polite smile. “We will take care of it. You can go attend to Enoch. He is waiting for you in the main living room.”
Losing the battle to Doreen, I made my way to the living room. I met Enoch on his feet by the Sofa.
“Doreen said you want to see me.”
“Yes, ma’am. Master requests that I give this to you.” He took slow steps towards me and pointed a medium-sized gift bag my way.
