Cassie’s POV
Eran arched a confused brow at me.
“Isn’t our appointment meant to be confidential?” I whispered in a voice that he would have missed if he wasn’t paying attention to me.
“It is confidential but I mentioned your husband because he has been involved in the beginning. If you care to know, he scolded me earlier when Doreen couldn’t reach me at first. He left me a voicemail, scolding me.”
I stared in disbelief. Shawn was really rude. This is one of the things that tires me about him. He’s got no patience and he wouldn’t hesitate to put people in their place.
“I’m so sorry,” I mumbled, instantly feeling bad. Eran had a young look but it was obvious he was older than Shawn.
He chuckled, and now it was my turn to arch a confused brow.
“He deeply cares about you,” Eran said.
“But that doesn’t give him the right to be rude to you.”
“Yeah, he was pissed in the voicemail but he acted on impulse. I would probably do the same if I were to be in his shoes. You are his wife so he’s got all right to be possessive about you.”
“I was contracted to be at your beck and call but an emergency came up at the hospital. And by the time I called back, you insisted that you were good.”
“I understand. But he still had no right to talk to you that way. I will talk to him.”
Eran shook his head, still smiling. “That shouldn’t be a concern. Your health is what matters most. All our conversations are confidential but I need to report to Shawn. He knows you threw up and he’s going to question me.”
“Besides, all I said was that a general test would be done. It’s going to be like a general check-up.”
“But you scared me by asking about those symptoms,” I mumbled.
“I’m sorry for scaring you. I was just doing what I ought to. Everything I say is nothing but predictions based on my experiences. Only the test results can reveal what is going on. You’ve got nothing to worry about.” He smiled.
“Ar….are you sure?” My voice cracked. To be honest, I had no idea why I was being so nervous.
“I know it. You are surrounded by an amazing family who love you so much. That should be more than enough to convince you.”
I nodded slowly, taking in all that Eran said. He wasn’t the first person to remind me of my beautiful present. I guess it was time for me to start embracing all that I had now.
“Eran walked me through some exercises for my wrist, he massaged it, checked on my bruises which were already healing, and then gave me my medications.
…………………………….
Shawn’s Pov.
I was unbuckling my seatbelt when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I reached for it and instantly rolled my eyes at the caller ID. I answered and brought the phone to my ear.
“Aren’t you meant to be busy over there?”
“Yeah, and I blame myself for not postponing this trip. What the hell is going on Shawn?”
I frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Stella called me. She said you hit her and almost killed her all because of your wife who is a gold digger. When the hell did you get married?” George said at the top of his voice.
I brought my free hand to my face and massaged my temple.
“Even though Stella was crying on the phone, I didn’t believe her because of course, we all know how manipulative she can be. But I spoke to Don Travous to extend my greetings since I couldn’t make it on his birthday and he mentioned you being in attendance with your wife. I went for not even almost a month and you’ve moved on?”
“I frowned deeper. “So I shouldn’t move on with my life?”
“Stop being ridiculous. We’ve known each other since forever. You got married and I’m the last one to know? Who the hell was your best man?”
“Really? That’s what you are upset about?”
“Stop being a fucker! If I got married over here and I didn’t tell you, wouldn’t you be mad at me?”
“Why would I be?” I challenged and George heaved a deep sigh.
“You are so impossible, Shawn.”
“It just happened. It wasn’t a big ceremony. You’ve been busy and I don’t want to freak you out. I was going to tell you when you return.”
George said nothing.
“If it will make you feel better, Kelvin and Kayla weren’t there. It was just Dad and my wife’s stepmother.”
“Same girl?”
“You will see for yourself. Focus on why you are there and when you return, I will tell you all you need to know.”
“A secret wedding?” He said in disbelief.
“Stop whining, dude. There’s going to be a big wedding.”
“You are not saying this to shut me up, right?”
“It’s up to my wife. If she doesn’t want it then there is nothing I can do.”
“It feels so weird to hear you talk that way since no one’s opinion ever matters to you.”
“Well, I guess situation changes people. I’ve got a wife now and she’s my responsibility.”
“I can’t wait to see her,” Geo said almost immediately.
“You would have to pass an interview with me before I let you.”
He chuckled. “You’ve gotten all possessive already?”
“It’s payback time for all the way you and your girl made me feel jealous.”
Geo chuckled.
“Focus on what you are there for but hurry up and come back. We really need to hang out.” I said, glad that the conversation ended on a lighter note.
“Sure! I should be back in a couple of days. But I’m still surprised you laid a land on Stella.”
“Didn’t she tell you what she did?”
“She said your wife lied against her and put all the blame on her.”
“She’s insane!” I said with gritted teeth.
“She’s trying to cause trouble between my wife and me. Not only by her actions, but she said really nasty stuff. I wished I had dealt with her even more but Dad wouldn’t even let me.”
“She has moved on with her life. I don’t know why she’s against me doing the same.”
“Please, let’s not talk about her. But I made her realize that she messed with the wrong person.”
“Some women are just so impossible. The way she was sobbing, you would think she did nothing. I was just shocked. I knew you could be a snob and many other things but never a violent person.”
“Dad is still pissed that I touched her. You just really need to put people in their place sometimes or else they will continue to mess with you. It wasn’t just the fact that she said nasty stuff to Cassie but She made her fall, causing injuries to her.”
“It’s crazy how I thought so highly of Stella. I never knew she could stoop this low.”
“A jealous woman is the most dangerous,” Geo mumbled.
“I dated about two women after her. Even Brenda was at my office some days ago, requesting that we come back together.”
“If I could recall, she ended the relationship, didn’t she?”
“You are right. It’s crazy out there.”
I spoke to George some more after which I got out of the car, not forgetting the bag I placed earlier in the front passenger seat.
“Good evening sir.” Doreen greeted me the moment I got in.
I nodded. “How’s Cassie? Is she feeling any better?”
“Yes, sir. She just retired to her room not quite long.”
“Did Eran come to check on her?”
“Yes.”
“Thanks for caring for her,” I mumbled, pretending not to see the shock on Doreen’s face.
“Shut the door on your way out.” I dismissed Doreen, making my way up the stairs.
Getting to the room, I pushed the door open. Hardly had I shut the door when I froze at what I saw. The gift bag I was holding fell from me also.
