Cassie’s Pov
At the instructions of his brother, Shawn did not end the call. He navigated to his imessage, then clicked on the link Kelvin sent which took him to a website.
My husband took his time to go through the page and with every sentence that he read, the more his countenance changed.
“What the hell?” He cursed when he couldn’t take it anymore. The phone was a bit far from me so I couldn’t see but from the look on Shawn’s face, I could tell it wasn’t a good article.
“She can say all sorts about me but what gives her the fucking right to attack my wife?” Shawn said at the top of his voice.
My heart skipped. Wait? Did she bring my story to the media?
“The internet is a mess bro, that lady is so evil.”
“What did she put out there?” My voice came out shaky.
Shawn looked away from his phone but stared at me speechless.
I gestured towards the phone to have a look but Shawn seemed like he wasn’t going to hand over the device to me.
“Is it that bad? Let me see.” This time around, my voice came out as a plea.
“No, Cassie, I don’t think you wanna check that out.” Kelv pleaded.
Shawn heaved a deep sigh.
“Why not? I should know what the whole world thinks about me.”
“I’m handing her the phone,” Shawn said, then passed his phone to me.
The website was filled with screenshots of pictures and captions that Stella posted on her Instagram page.
She stated that she was a victim of domestic violence when she was dating Shawn. She would post pictures of them being happy on the media meanwhile her life was filled with sorrow because Shawn would always beat her up. All of the injuries which she would have to cover up with makeup.
She went on and on about the other ways Shawn belittled her and that he was partly responsible for the mental illness of her ex-best friend, Mia.
She confessed that Shawn attacked her earlier today and posted pictures of her injured face.
Then finally, she came at me. Rambling on how much of a gold digger I was. She mentioned that I was the daughter of a debtor and that was why Shawn got married to me. To use me as a sex slave for the repayment of my father’s debt. I had no idea when a tear rolled down my cheek but I sniffled and quickly wiped it away with my hand. The exact one that I sprained. The pain was still there but Eran advised that I engage it for fast recovery.
“She’s quiet. I don’t think letting her see it was a good idea, Shawn.” Kelvin’s voice came through. I was still holding onto the phone.
“You know she has a phone, right? Either way, She’s going to find out eventually.”
“You attacked her today?” I said to Shawn with tear-filled eyes.
“You do not expect me to sit down and do nothing after all that she did to you yesterday”
“I would never lay my hand on a woman but I certainly did not regret all that I did to her. Seeing this nonsense that she spewed online, I regret not ending her life earlier.”
“Shawnnnn!” Kelvin warned.
“Oh please, don’t warn me like I’m the bad person here. That lady is nothing but from the pits of hell. I’m not even done resolving the rift she caused between my wife and me, but here she is, causing another problem for me.”
“She moved on. Got married to that bastard who's my competitor, went ahead to give birth for him, I said nothing, and neither did I ruin her home. I dated at least two women after her but there were no attacks. Why now did she deem it fit to come destroy me?”
“And who gave her the right to dig into Cassie and come up with so many lies?”
“I’m definitely not going to let this slide. She’s going to pay dearly for messing with me and dragging my wife’s name into this mess.”
“I honestly didn’t do worse because I remembered that she was the daughter of Dad’s close friend. But now, I don‘t bloody care. I would have still ignored it if she attacked just me but she’s going to regret messing with my wife.” Shawn said at the top of his voice and if I was being sincere, I had never seen him this pissed.
Yes, a lot was going through my mind and I wasn’t happy about this but it felt so good to see someone worry about me and want to fight for me. Not just anyone. But my husband.
“Gosh, I didn’t even do anything to her compared to what I had in mind. That lady is a bitch!” He scoffed.
Shawn’s phone vibrated in my hand, bringing me out of my thoughts. It was a message from Kayla. I handed the phone over to Shawn who checked it out.
“Kayla just dropped me a message. She’s worried. Please can you add her to this call?”
Kelvin did as his brother requested and soon enough, Kay’s voice came through.
“Shawn, are you okay? How’s Cassie? You didn’t tell her anything yet, right? She’s still recovering so she needs no pressure right now.” The concern in Kayla’s voice made me tear up even more. It was their brother who was defamed. His reputation was on the line and yet, they were rather worried about me and my health. Everything that bitch said about me in the post was true. But for Shawn, it was mostly false. But yet, they were thinking of how to protect me.
“She’s here. She’s aware and she can hear you as well.” Shawn said as though I was a member of the family. Well, I was. It was just that I hadn’t come to terms with my reality enough.
“Cassie, how do you feel?” I could hear the concern in her voice. The phone was still with Shawn.
I heaved a silent sigh.
“I don’t know. I’m just seated here with Shawn, waiting for him to tell me all of this is a prank. The words are so nasty and I can imagine what could be going on in people’s heads about us.”
“Yeah, I know and I’m so sorry about that. But please, do not worry yourself about what is going on in people’s minds. It’s not your fault if they choose to believe what they see in the media without listening to your side of the story.”
“But please, Stay away from your phone for the next few days if you can.”
I frowned. “Why?”
