“The last time I remember, She didn't have a phone. But I would be so happy if she saw this. Cassie has a weak heart so no doubt this is going to break her.” Mom voiced out.
I heaved a small sigh and then placed my phone on my lap. “I wish I was by her side right now. You know how much I love to see her miserable.”
“Same here, honey. I do miss seeing her shed tears and do all the hefty work around the house. But now I feel a bit relieved. It wouldn’t take too long for Shawn to return her and come for you.”
My lips curved into a proud smile. “Are you sure?”
“Of course. Life will always be in support of us because we are good people. We literally had to do nothing ourselves but look, the secrets out!”
“But….” I stared at Mom suspiciously. “Are you sure you’ve not got a hand in this? I mean how did she know that Cassie is the daughter of a debtor?”
“You’ve gotta think out of the box, baby. Anyone can dig up any information about whoever. Besides, I’m surprised she voiced out because I remember making this clear at Travous party but no one believed us.” Mom said.
“Let’s not forget that Shawn is very powerful. And of course, no one would want to mess with him.” I said.
“I know it’s shocking but trust me when I say it’s so fulfilling that the news came from his ex,” Rhoda smiled.
“Yeah, I know. I mumbled. She’s a public figure and people definitely trust her words. I hope she doesn’t do the same to me when Shawn gets married to me.”
“Of course not, my love. The debts are no longer in our names and I have erased all traces so you’ve got nothing to be concerned about.”
A small smile crept to my lips. “What would I do without you, mama.”
Rhoda giggled, then brought her lips to the rim of her glass cup, taking a sip of her drink.
“I would never trade you for anyone else, sweetheart. And we would both stop at nothing until we get what we want.”
I nodded. The small smile I had on me slowly faded when something hit me.
“But she can’t be right about him being an abuser? Right?”
“Who cares?” Mom mumbled.
My eyes went wide. “You would let Shawn raise his hands on me?”
“Do you think these things come without a price?”
“Mom!!!!” I groaned. “You would really let a man raise a hand on your only child?”
“ Oh please, Lori. You want wealth. You should know that all that glitters isn’t gold.”
I was almost saying something but Mom interrupted. “You know not everyone would be calm, right? Or were you expecting to be his wife and he’s going to start treating you like a queen immediately.”
“W…..Well….” I stammered, not sure of what to say. “He could be a beast to everyone but not to his wife.”
Mom stared at me with curious eyes, then she scoffed. “I think I might have spoiled you a little.”
“How?” I asked, still looking confused.
“I’m starting to think you hate me so much right now, because how dare you say such a thing if you like me?”
“Oh, baby!” Mom groaned. “In as much as you are dear to my heart, there is no way I would hide the truth from you. You think Shawn got to where he is by being nice and accessible?”
“He doesn’t have to be nice, but raise his hands on a woman? What if he kills me?”
Mom chuckled, then shook her head.
“Nothing’s funny. I’m concerned about my life.”
“We don’t know the whole story so it’s best not to judge,” Rhoda assured.
“Besides, no one gets nothing on a platter of gold. It’s tit for tat.”
“Looking through that bitch’s caption, She stated that Cassie is there to suck his dick in exchange for the debt repayment. I believe that to be true because why else would he want to be with such a failure? So that’s very justifiable.”
“About Shawn hitting Stella, the situation is quite confusing. I mean, I’m glad she exposed that bitch but nothing still seems to make sense. Why did she open up now? After being married, and with two kids? Well even if Shawn is guilty I don’t think you need to worry about that.”
I stared at my mother in confusion.
“Yes, baby. The truth is that we don't know if she was indeed the troublemaker. The times he laid his hand on her, she probably freaked him out. I believe there is more to the story. But you would be doing yourself so much harm if you try to judge your life based on another person’s experience.”
“Shawn being tough with her doesn’t mean he is going to be tough with you. But you shouldn’t expect too much either, especially at the beginning of the relationship.”
“Of course, I’ll make him know that he has no right to harm my daughter. And you must also speak for yourself. Someone like Shawn wouldn’t regard women that much because of what he has, that's why you need to seduce him. Make him go crazy and he won’t be able to refuse you.”
“Obey him and watch him slowly become yours.”
I nodded slowly, taking in all that my mother said.
“Oh, you were expecting the typical Cinderella story?” She chuckled.
“N……no…but.” I stammered.
“I just expect everything to be easy. Plus, I do not think I can stand someone abusive.”
“That shouldn’t bother you, my love. Your eyes should be on the goal. You can tame Shawn to be yours. He’s gonna treat you like a queen and heed to whatever you have to say. You are going to put in more work on your end. He’s not going to trust you overnight.”
“You need to show him that you are far better than all the silly women he has ever been with.”
I swallowed painfully. “That’s not an issue. I just don’t know how long I can be patient for. Who knows what’s going to happen after this.”
“Are you expecting Shawn to still be with that witch after this?” Mom asked.
I shrugged, finally placing the glass which still had some alcohol in it on the table beside me.
“I don’t want to make you over-excited but I think he is going to come and plead for mercy. I mean, he has dated other women before this witch so why does this have to happen the night after he introduced her at Travous’ party?”
“You think so?” I stared at my mom with hope in my eyes.
“I hope so. But regardless, I will still turn up for my appointment with Donald tomorrow.”
“I’m coming with you, right?”
“Why? You don’t trust me?”
“I need to keep you in check. I don’t want you to get carried away.”
Mom continued to stare at me with a knowing smile. “You are scared I’m going to fuck your father-in-law?”
