Cassie’s Pov
My heart skipped.
No. Not for the reasons you have in mind.
No one had ever given me something before. I stared at Enoch, then back at the gift bag. “For me?” I pointed at myself.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Why?” I didn’t care if I was sounding unreasonable right now but how the hell was I supposed to trust Shawn after everything?
“Because he wants you to have them. Please can you take a look and see if you like them?”
I was mad at Shawn but making Enoch pay for his master’s sin seemed too deep so I unwillingly took the gift bag from him.
My heart started beating faster as I unboxed the content. I came face to face with a flat and long jewelry case covered in a well tied ribbon. I took off the ribbon, then opened the box and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
A gorgeous pair of diamond earrings. I had no idea if they were real diamonds but it seemed so. My eyes got itchy with tears as I got lost in the moment. I had never seen something this beautiful and precious. I had no idea how long I was in trance for but I snapped back to reality remembering the kind of man that I was married to.
Was this a trap?
I flipped the jewelry box close, then tucked it back into the gift box.
“I don’t want it.” I stretched the bag back to Enoch who seemed confused.
“You don’t like diamonds? Would you like to see the brand’s other collections so you can take a look at them and pick the one of your choice?” Enoch suggested. I could see it in his eyes that he was shocked I rejected such a precious gift.
“I don’t want anything from Shawn. Tell him to leave me the hell alone.” I said, then crashed on the couch behind me. I knew he was up to something but I was not going to fall for it.
He’s paying off my late father’s debt in exchange for me to give him an heir and now here he was, presenting me with a gift?
…………………………………….
“Any message for me while I was at the meeting?” Shawn asked Tessie, his assistant, the moment he walked out of the conference room. Tessie was by his side, holding a tab, and trying to meet up with his fast steps.
“Enoch reached out. He said your wife rejected the gift and doesn’t want anything from you.”
Shawn abruptly stopped in his tracks, making Tessie do the same.
“She what?” He said coldly with strict brows, staring at Tessie in disbelief.
“That’s what Enoch said sir,” Tessie said in a shaky voice.
“I was late for my meeting because I spent my fucking time surfing the website to get something nice and this is what I get in retur…..” Shawn was almost done making his statement when he realized that this issue had nothing to do with his assistant.
“Never mind, I will take care of it.” He mumbled as he took his phone out of his pocket and resumed his steps.
“Be in my office in ten minutes so we can go through the notes.” He said to Tessie before bringing his phone to his ear.
“She didn’t like it?” Shawn scolded Enoch over the phone. “Who the hell rejects something like that?” Shawn pushed the door to his office open and he instantly got disgusted by the sight of the person in there.
“I will talk to you later.” He ended the call as he took slow steps in, towards the guest. She was already on her feet before Shawn got to her.
“Who let you in here?” He said at the top of his voice.
“Baby.” Brenda was almost taking steps towards him when Shawn’s voice came through. “Don’t you dare come near me!!!” He glared at her in an almost naked attire. She was putting on a mini skirt along with a cleavage-revealing top.
“I’m sorry, my love. I heard you are getting married or you are almost getting married. I came to confirm from you that it’s a lie right?”
Shawn looked at his left hand and he regretted leaving his wedding band at home.
Brenda noticed that there was no ring on him so the worry on her face instantly faded, and was replaced with a smile. “Damn bloggers!!! I’m going to sue them. What if I had died from this terrible news?”
“Look, baby.” She closed the gap with Shawn, ignoring the glares he was giving her. “I know I broke up with you but it was a mistake. I miss you and I want to be your wife. My fans have been asking for you. Well, they suspected that we had a fight so I’m here to make up.” Brenda brought her hand up and caressed Shawn’s right cheek. “Yes, I know that I am a good person. I saved you the burden of making a public-romantic apology to me.”
“Gosh, you smell so gooooooooood. I miss you so much, baby.” Brenda threw herself at Shawn, hugging him.
Shawn pushed her away.
Brenda arched her brows, trying to understand what was happening.
“Get the hell out of my office. I want nothing to do with you.”
“What??? Even after I acted like a bigger person?” She countered.
“I’ve got work to do. See yourself out before I call the security.” Shawn pointed at the door.
Brenda chuckled in disbelief. “This has to be a joke, right? You are refusing me?”
“And who the hell are you?” Shawn challenged.
“I’m your woman for crying out loud. Yeah, I know I went extreme but I’m just a girl. We women have it so hard on some days so I overreacted and broke up. It’s been over a month since we talked to each other. I was expecting you to come to apologize to me but you never came.”
“Can we put this behind us and move on?”
“You are my past. I want nothing to do with you. Help yourself out.” Shawn said and made his way over to the chair behind his desk.
“Ar….are you seeing another woman that is making you refuse me?” Brenda yelled as she walked behind Shawn and came to a halt in front of him after he was seated.
“Tell me, Who is She? Is she as sexy and successful as I am? What does she have that I don’t?”
Shawn ignored her. Brenda saw him typing on his phone so she had an idea of what he was about to do. She scoffed. “Don’t think I’m going to sit and watch another woman take you away from me. All I need is her name and where the hell she hails from. I promise you she will be long gone before you know it.” Brenda challenged, reached for her handbag that she placed on his desk earlier, and stormed out of his office.
Shawn picked up his phone and dialled a number who picked up after a few rings. “Yes, Boss.”
“I never want to see Brenda in any of my companies and residence. I don’t know where the speculation of my marriage is coming from but take care of it. I will let the world know about it when Cassie is ready. And arrange for extra security around the house.”
…………….
AN HOUR LATER
Shawn ran his fingers through his hair once more. This was the third time he was going through the first page of the contract and he couldn’t even comprehend the words on the digital file.
He let out a deep sigh, then jumped to his feet, picked up his wallet from the desk, and then made his way out, mumbling, “You are going to be the end of me, Cassie.”
