                    Shawn’s POV
“A mistake while she was drunk? You all got to be kidding me!” I mumbled, taking a seat on the chair behind my desk. Since my dad and sister occupied the chairs before me, Kelvin came to a halt beside them. He stood beside my Dad.
“How’s that even ideal?” Kelvin scoffed, folding his arms.
Dad was about to say something when I interrupted. “Look, Dad, I respect you but I apologize in advance because I’m not going to listen to whatever you say. It’s high time you renounced your friendship with Stella’s Dad and got rolling with some of your other friends.”
“I know I’ve been through shits, gone through heartbreaks and so many nasty situations that I’ve regretted but this by far has been one of the most ridiculous things that has ever happened to me. For fucks sake, she’s married with two kids. What the hell does she want from me? To divorce Cassie and come ask her for her hand in marriage?”
“If anyone should be causing me trouble, then it should be Brenda and Tasha who I dated after Stella. At least those ones are still single.”
“Brenda is another Psycho! I would suggest you take preventive measures with her. You know she thinks so highly of herself. Hearing that you are now married to someone who isn’t as popular as she is would definitely trigger her.” Kelvin said.
“Brenda?” Dad started to speak. “Isn’t she the one that broke up with you? Why should she get freaked out by you moving on?”
“They are just like that, Dad. Stella broke up with him too! We all know Shawn never wanted to get married. And I think every woman that had been with him wanted that. It’s clear Stella is not over you. Yeah, she’s got a husband and kids but I’m sure she dreamt of having that life with you.”
“No one knows what Cassie did to your son but here he is. With a changed mind about being a family man. Women just want the best and they must be in so much pain to see Shawn go!” Kelv added.
“Definitely!” Kayla interrupted. “While dating him, I’m sure they did their best, even in the bedrooms, just to have Shawn wrapped around their fingers. But unfortunately, no one qualified to be his wife. Wasted efforts.”
I playfully glared at Kay at the bedroom talk while Kelvin chuckled softly.
Kay shrugged. “You know I’m telling the truth.”
“Oh please, I don’t want to hear about you all’s sex life. We all know how brutal your brother was before Cassie. He did things without emotions.” Dad interrupted.
“Well, even though it came as a shock, I liked the way he handled his relationship with Cassie. He saw her, knew she was the woman he wanted to spend his life with, and got married to her in private.”
“I can imagine what would have happened if you had a big wedding,” Kelvin mumbled.
“I’m not saying you deserve all of these shitty things happening but lowkey, this was bound to happen considering your status and the number of exes you’ve got. You are Shawn Elias. You’ve got the power and the status. Women would definitely do anything to be by your side. Stella is an example but she went really extreme.” Kay said.
“Sadly, Cassie wouldn’t be able to relate to this because she’s more on a reserved side.”
“That’s why I want to make sure justice is done. So the others wouldn’t think that they’ve got the right to mess with me.” I voiced out.
“She’s really sorry. She was sobbing nonstop on the phone this morning.” Donald voiced out.
“Dad, please! Don’t make me call the security to throw you out. I’m barely a month into marriage and I’ve fought hundreds of battles. Cassie isn’t done forgiving me for what Stella did to her at the party. I was literally still trying to win her trust back and then I saw the shitty post Stella made.”
“I carried you along about Cassie from the moment I knew I wanted her. You know her background. Do you think any of this is easy for her?”
“After all that Stella said about your son and your daughter-in-law, I’m so disappointed that you could even pick up her calls and hear the nonsense she had to say!”
“She claimed she’s drunk and yet she had the nerve to call George who is in a very important meeting overseas to report me to him.”
“George knows you’re married?” Kelvin asked in disbelief.
“No! I only told Dad because I knew you all were going to convince me that I was making a terrible mistake. But I wasn’t bothered because I knew what I wanted. Plus I had so much work pressure in that period. I wanted to give people the news one by one so I planned to tell George when he returned.”
“But of course, he was hurt! I don’t care if Stella wasn’t in her right senses when she made the post. She’s going to pay for her actions regardless.”
“I’m not on their side, Son. There’s no way I would pick a stranger over my own kid. Stella’s Dad and I are like brothers. You all should know better that a wayward child will always be a wayward child regardless of how much they get cautioned by their parents. You should know that Shawn, because you are the one who gives me the most worry.”
“So he called me and unfortunately, Stella was with him so she spoke to me, apologizing. Charles feels really bad about the situation and I give you my word that he’s not proud of what his daughter has done. If Charles wasn’t my friend, then God knows I wouldn’t give two shits about her. And I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have told you to go for the meeting with her the other day.”
Kayla rolled her eyes. “This isn’t about Shawn attending meetings with her. We all know that an evil person would be evil no matter what. She would have turned up for Travous' party regardless so she would have heard Shawn introduce Cassie as his wife to the guest.”
“I’m just so concerned because this has brought so much shame to Charles and his wife. They are not happy about it and I think even Stella’s husband is putting up a threat.”
“Threat for what?” Kay mocked. “After having two kids? He better stay with her and help her in this mess.”
“That’s the issue! The family would need to sell all that they’ve ever worked for to pay the damages.” Dad said.
Kelvin scoffed. “I knew the damages was going to be an issue for them.”
“Even if they pull resources together and sell all that they have, I don’t think they can provide that amount, Son,” Dad said to me.
I shrugged. “So what does that have to do with me?”
“I know Shawn doesn’t need the money but she needs to pay for her actions,” Kay said, making me glare at her.
“And who told you I don't need the money?”
She scoffed, playfully rolling her eyes at me. “Even your personal wealth is enough to give your 6th generation an extravagant lifestyle if they decide not to work. Mind you, I haven’t added all of Dad’s possessions to you and trust funds.”
“Heyyyy!” Dad cautioned, causing a smile to escape from Kelvin.
“Yeah, no one is dying now but I’m just trying to remind Shawn of his status.”
“Stella is going to pay the damages and it’s not my business how she’s going to gather the money,” I said.
Kay turned her attention to Dad. “Your son is pissed. We all know that this convo is not going to end well but if you want him to temper justice with mercy, there’s only one person that can help.”
I threw Kayla a hard glare.
“By the way, how’s Cassie holding up?” Kay turned away from Dad, asking me.
“I want to take her away from all this mess!”
Kayla’s lips turned into a beautiful smile. “A vacation? Honeymoon?”
Before I could respond, my phone rang once in my pocket. It wasn’t a call and neither was it a message but from the sound, I could tell that it was a reminder for something important.
I reached for the phone and came face to face with a notification.
Cassie’s Birthday!!!!
