Shawn’s Pov
“I guess it’s going to be a long vacation.” Kelvin teased with a smile playing at the corner of his lips. He was on his feet so he got a glance at my phone.
“What’s that?” Kay asked, staring in between Kelvin and me.
“The notification was for Cassie’s birthday,” I mumbled, stylishly massaging my temple.
Her lips curved into a smile. “Is it today?”
“In two days,” I answered.
“So that means you were in sync all along.” My Dad spoke.
“Yeah!” Kev's smile got even bigger. “He was thinking about taking her away from this mess but I guess it’s a double celebration now. What do you have in mind?” He directed his last sentence to me.
“Nothing yet. I just need to figure something out. Glad I made a notification for it cos it totally slipped my mind.” I mumbled absentmindedly. What I had in mind was just the two of us going for relaxation. An itinerary that we could make up if we got to the destination country but now that her special day was really close, there was this urge to make it even more special. I wasn’t sure she had ever been opportune to celebrate her day. I really wanted to make it up to her but I had no idea where to even start from.
“You seemed confused.” Kayla teased.
“I guess that’s because he doesn’t know what to do.” Kelv chuckled.
Dad arched his brow at me. “Is this your first time planning a surprise? Well if you are overwhelmed, you can source it out.”
I shook my head. “I want to be involved. I just don’t know what she likes. That’s what makes me confused.”
“I want to impress her. But she doesn’t seem like someone who gets easily impressed.”
“Just like you.” Kayla chuckled.
“Me?” I said in disbelief.
“Your sister is right, Son. Nothing moves you.”
“You all be forgetting that there is now an exception.” Kelvin interrupted.
“Cassie literally needs to do nothing to have him impressed. That’s why he wants to be on top of his game.” Kelv added, ignoring the glares I was throwing at him. He knew I disliked being teased.
“I’m so in love with how she makes you feel.” Kayla giggled.
“What do you mean you don’t know what she likes yet? What have you all been doing since you all got married? Haven’t you been paying attention to her?”
“Don’t be strict, Dad. I’m sure more important things have been taking up their time.”
“Kayyyy!” I groaned while my younger brother chuckled.
“Plus, some jealous people have been really messing with their privacy.” Kayla continued to speak. “Hence, this trip has been long overdue.”
I was listening to what Kayla was saying but my mind was elsewhere too.
“You don’t have to look so troubled, Shawn. I will help you.”
I scoffed, stylishly moving some papers around my table to keep myself busy. Well, the whole family was talking about me and my love life. It was weird getting this kind of attention which made me feel just a bit uncomfortable.
“You’re talking as though you don’t know Cassie. I literally have to give a convincing speech before she accepts gifts from me. Hopefully, She will agree to go to another continent with me.”
“She will,” Kayla assured.
“She’s just not used to sweet gestures. But that’s why you are her husband. To show her how it’s been done and how good life can get while she’s with you.”
“You don’t have to fret. I’m going to help you. I will send you a couple of options and you can pick based on what you think she likes.” She said,
“Never thought I would see your bossy brother be in such a vulnerable situation,” Dad said, while Kayla and Kelvin burst into a peal of satisfied laughter.
“Enough about me, please. Let’s not get carried away as to why we are here.”
“Yeah, I think the hardest part has been conquered. Everyone must have watched you by now so they should be well behaved from now on. I hope Cassie was able to stay away from her phone as she promised.” Kay asked.
“Last night was crazy. She had so much to say but it was obvious she was holding back. She didn’t check her phone and I could only hope the same right now.”
“I also need to speak to Eran about how she’s fairing. If it would be okay for her to travel.”
“Did she throw up this morning?” Kay asked.
“I shook my head.”
“Ohhhh!” She mumbled.
“Why did you sound disappointed?” Dad asked before I could. I noticed it too.
“I did?”
“You probably interpreted the wrong expression. I’m glad Cassie is fine.” Kayla said.
“You don’t need to worry about anything Shawn. It doesn’t matter how long you are gone for. I’m sure the lawyers will handle everything. Just go have a good time with your wife.” Kelv said.
“Still no consideration for my friend?’ Dad mumbled and I instantly rolled my eyes.
“I thought I told you earlier about the only person capable of changing his mind,” Kayla responded.
“No one is going to talk me out of this. That being said, You all should stay away from my wife.” I warned. “I respect your friend for being really honest about his daughter not being able to raise all of that money but I think he should let her bear the consequences of her actions. We will meet in court and the judge will make the final decision.

Lauretta’s POV
“I feel so sad all over again anytime I remember that my bitchy step sister is under the care of this family,” I said with gritted teeth as my eyes scanned through the reception of Donald Elias’s office. My mom and I occupied the double couch.
“Shawn has his own massive companies. Yet, look at his father’s massive establishment which I’m sure Shawn would still inherit. Life is so fucking unfair. It’s as though they are hiding Cassie from the public; protecting the hell out of her. Meanwhile, all I need is a few seconds to see her and end her life.”
