“Goo….od day Sir.” Doreen greeted Shawn, surprised to see that he was back earlier than usual.
“Where’s my wife?” He asked.
“In the room, Sir.”
Shawn climbed the stairs in a rush.

CASSIE’S POV
With a small smile at the corner of my lips, I flipped through the next page of the book I was reading. I was lying on the sofa on the balcony. My head was well-rested on a pillow behind me while my legs were in the opposite direction. Beside me was a small table that contained a plate of nuts and a glass of orange juice that Doreen brought for me to snack on.
I felt a pair of eyes boring into my skin. That forced me to look up and I came face to face with my husband. I swallowed painfully. Shawn looked a different kind of sexy today. His suit wasn’t baggy but well-tailored that revealed the shape of his body in a different way. His tie was missing, the first three buttons of his shirt were undone and his hair was a bit messy like he ran his fingers through them a couple of times.
‘Earth to Cassie!’ I mentally slapped myself in the face, realizing that I was almost drooling at him. Shawn stared at me in return but I couldn’t care less to read the expression on his face. I ignored his presence, then turned my face back to the book I was reading.
I heard Shawn mumble some words, followed by footsteps. He took the book I was reading from me and tossed it to the end of the sofa but it landed on the floor. Before I could react, Shawn reached for my arm and lifted me as though I weighed nothing. He carried me out of the balcony into the room and then placed me on my feet when we got to the bedroom.
“What the????” I glared at him, trying to control my words. “Where are your goddam manners?” I finally let out.
He took two steps closer to me while I immediately took a step back, not wanting him to come close because I do not trust my body yet.
“Why did you reject the gift?”
I chuckled, folding my arms. “That’s what got you all worked up?”
“No one rejects gifts from me!” He said with gritted teeth.
I shrugged. “Then go give it to the people that want them.”
Shawn took another step closer to me and I took a step backward only for my back to land against the wall. I mentally facepalmed, wondering why that was always happening.
“Mind how you talk back to me. Didn’t we agree that you were going to do whatever it is that I say?”
“Not only do you lack manners, Shawn. I can see that you’ve got no integrity too. How dare you hold that bet against me when you’ve done nothing but lie to me.? Are we just going to shove what happened last night under the carpet?”
“You pretended to be disabled, lured me into a bet when you knew you were clearly going to win, You forced me to sleep on the same bed with you, and then you left.”
“Wasn’t that the reason why I sent the gift?” Shawn said and my heart suddenly felt heavy. I didn’t think about that because I never saw him to be someone who would be remorseful about his actions.
“Besides, I had important stuff to attend to so I had Enoch bring you here and Doreen to take care of your personal needs.”
I was almost going speechless but I forced words out of my mouth eventually. “That still doesn’t make you a good person. You own up to a mistake when you are guilty and do not try to buy forgiveness all because you own some illegal funds.”
Shawn stared at me in disappointment but I tried not to let it get to me. “Is that how you see me?”
I shrugged, “How do you expect me to see you differently? This marriage was based on lies and if not for my father’s debt and my greedy stepmother, we both know that I wouldn’t be here.”
“And have you been treated unfairly since I made you my wife?” Shawn said and that got me thinking, making me feel a bit guilty. Yeah, we’ve argued so much in the past couple of hours but so far I have been well taken care of and everyone has been good to me. I feel it’s just an act and Shawn was using me. I don’t trust men, I don’t trust Shawn.
“I still don’t want your gifts and quit trying to be nice to me. I regret agreeing to the bet but that was because I didn’t know that you could walk.”
“I won’t let you put the blame on me. You wanted that. You were freaking out and you needed someone to ease you. You were wet before I touched you. Your boobs won't stop pleading for my attention and yet you keep painting me the bad guy.”
I stylishly pressed my thighs together to ease some tension. I had no idea why his words were starting to get to me.
“You think I can’t see that?” Shawn totally closed the gap between us. I swallowed painfully. He brought his hand up close to my face. I moved my face to the other side so it landed on the wall. He moved his face close to mine. His breath fanned against my neck, making me shiver.
“I haven’t even laid a finger on you and here you are, melting under my stare.” He whispered, his lips touching my ear.
I shut my eyes. “Why is it so difficult for you to stay away from me?”
“I hate it when you pretend that you don’t like what you are feeling.” The confidence in Shawn’s voice didn’t go unnoticed, making me open my eyes.
“I would be smiling if I did.”
“You hate me so that’s a good excuse not to smile.” He explained.
“Look at all that you have. You could have any woman of your choice but still, you chose to torture me because I am helpless.”
“Why do you feel so low about yourself?” This time around, Shawn said with so much confidence that I felt as though I was being mocked.
“Is that not the truth?”
He was about to say something but I interrupted. “I think we should have separate rooms.”
