His sharp cheekbones framed a face that could stop traffic—thick, sword-like brows arched just enough to give him a perpetually dangerous look. Beneath those unfairly long lashes, his icy gaze held secrets no one would dare uncover. A strong, straight nose and lips the color of pale rose petals pressed into a firm line, completing the image of a man who radiated power without even trying.
This wasn't just any man.
Like a moth to a flame, I gripped my glass and marched toward him, brushing off the bartender's hushed warning: "Miss, trust me—you don't want to go near that one."
What did I care? I had nothing left to lose. Tonight, I wanted to burn.
The walk to his table was short, but every step sent my pulse racing. Before I could second-guess myself, I slammed my drink down beside him and dropped into the seat with liquid courage.
"Hey, handsome." My voice was all smoky confidence. "Drink with me."
Julian Valentin was in a rare good mood tonight. He spared me a glance, unimpressed, then went back to ignoring me.
Oh, hell no.
Alcohol and irritation flared in my veins. I snatched the glass he'd just set aside and shoved it into his hand, clinking mine against it hard enough to risk a chip. "Drink. With. Me."
Without waiting, I tipped my head back and let the liquor scorch my throat.
Then I flipped the empty glass upside down, daring him with a smirk.
One dark brow lifted as he studied me, amusement flickering in those unreadable eyes.
Slowly—agonizingly—he brought his glass to his lips and drained it in one smooth motion.
A hushed ripple of shock spread through the onlookers.
Grinning, I gave his hand a tipsy slap. "That's more like it."
See? The world was full of men. And I'd just found the most dangerously gorgeous one in the room.
My drunken enthusiasm made the gesture rougher than intended, and he flinched.
Before I could blink, his hand flipped over, trapping mine in a grip that sent heat straight to my core. He leaned in, his breath hot against my ear, voice a velvet threat. "Enough games, little temptress. You've got my attention. No need to break my fingers."
His words sent a shiver down my spine.
The alcohol burned through me, my breath hitching. "Wh-what are you—"
My confusion seemed to snap something inside him. In one swift motion, his arm banded around my waist, yanking me from the seat into his lap. His other hand cradled the back of my head as his lips crashed into mine.
Soft yet demanding, his mouth tasted like expensive whiskey and sin.
He was intoxicating.
His tongue swept past my lips, claiming, exploring, leaving no inch untouched.
The world spun, my thoughts drowning in the dizzying rush of liquor and lust. Rationality evaporated—all I could do was cling to him and kiss him back.
His arms locked around me, his dominance swallowing me whole.
My fingers dug into his shoulders as his hands traced every curve, drawing breathy whimpers I didn't even recognize as my own. My body melted against his, every nerve alight.
When we finally broke apart, reality trickled back in.
What had I just done?
Oh, right.
Tonight, I was supposed to forget everything.
