"No! Get away from me!" I shoved against him, twisting to free my trapped leg, but his grip was iron.
"Ethan—help me!" I jerked my head away from his revolting touch, screaming toward the door, but my husband turned his back and walked out.
My stomach dropped. The drugs had weakened me—my mind screamed in disgust at the filthy old man looming over me, but my body... my body was betraying me, pulsing with a sickening heat.
Desperation clawed through the haze. With a burst of strength, I wrenched my free leg up, driving my knee toward his groin—
But I missed.
The sudden movement threw us both off balance. We crashed to the floor, my skull cracking against the tile. White pain exploded behind my eyes, sharp enough to cut through the drug's fog.
The bastard wasn't much better off. His grotesque body slammed against mine, his flesh jamming awkwardly into my stomach. He howled, clutching himself.
The door flew open. Ethan rushed in, took one look at me sprawled on the ground, and swept me into his arms.
I clung to him, shaking. "You bastard..."
"I'm sorry—God, I'm so sorry." His voice cracked, his grip crushing. I shattered against him, sobs tearing from my throat.
The old pervert staggered up, wincing. "Damn near broke me! Ethan, this isn't working—she has to cooperate, or I'm useless!"
Ethan didn't even glance back as he carried me out. "Rest, Uncle Harold. We'll talk later."
The old man's sigh followed us down the hall.
Devastation hollowed me out. Back in our room, I couldn't stop crying. Ethan exhaled raggedly. "Vivian, I had to. I know it hurts, but don't you want a child? This is the only way. Please... just this once."
"I'm your wife!" My voice broke. "How could you do this?"
"You think this is easy for me?" His face twisted. "Hearing you scream killed me! But what choice do I have? I'm useless! Don't you think I want my own child? If it weren't for—" His body convulsed, violent sobs cutting him off.
I'd never seen him like this. Fear spiked through me. "Ethan, stop—you're scaring me."
"Vivian, I know I'm scum... but I just want a baby. Please say yes." His tear-filled eyes locked onto mine.
My resistance crumbled. Eyes closed, I nodded.
"You mean it?" His crying stopped instantly.
"Yes." The word burned like acid.
"Vivian, I swear—I'll treat you better than ever!" He bolted up. "Uncle Harold! She agreed!"
My heart split open.
The old pervert barged in, naked and eager, slamming the door behind him. He climbed onto the bed, his rancid breath hitting my face as he tried to kiss me.
I turned away. "Just get it over with. Consider it a dog bite."
He chuckled. "You'll learn to like it, Vivian. They all do."
When his hands groped me, I slapped them off. "Don't touch me."
Ignoring me, he forced my legs apart. I fought, but he was stronger.
His weight pinned me. His grotesque face hovered above, filling me with revulsion.
Afraid I'd resist again, he lined himself up. The drugs betrayed me—the second his skin brushed mine, a traitorous jolt of pleasure shot through me.
His leer made my stomach turn.
After years of waiting, my body would be taken by this. My heart bled.
"Here I come, Vivian..." With a grunt, he thrust forward—
