The sight of Sophia crying and looking pitiful would make any man feel sorry. At least the soldiers standing next to Shawn and Chase couldn't help but show a bit of sympathy on their faces.
"Mr. Ludwig," Chase called out.
Shawn's answer was cold. He said, "Tie her up and send her back to the White family." He didn't even glance at Sophia as he spoke, his face cold and expressionless.
He thought, 'I have made my decision. If Sophia continues to pester me without reason, then it is time to consider making her disappear from my life forever.'
Sophia's face turned pale at his words. She said, "What? Shawn, how could you do this to me?" She couldn't believe that Shawn would treat her like this.
She thought, 'How am I supposed to face anyone after this? By tomorrow, I will undoubtedly become the laughingstock of all Jelonsburg.'
Shawn was a man of his word. If he said to tie Sophia up and send her back, then that was exactly what would happen. So the soldiers quickly ran back to the guardhouse and brought back some rope.
Seeing this, Sophia realized that Shawn was serious. She knew that Shawn was not someone who joked around, especially after witnessing his anger before.
Without a second thought, she stood up in fear. She threatened, "Shawn, you will regret this." Then she ran off crying.
The scene was so dramatic that Zoe couldn't stay hidden any longer. She was never one to hide for long. With a couple of clicks of her tongue, she stepped out from the shadows.
She clapped her hands and teased, "No wonder you're the legendary warrior. Women just keep coming your way. You've got quite the collection of drama queens."
When Chase and the soldiers saw Zoe, their faces turned pale with shock and fear.
Chase's words tangled in his throat. He never expected Zoe to be here. And worse—she'd been lurking who-knows-how-long, and as experienced soldiers, they'd missed it. The realization iced his veins.
Shawn's sharp eyes lowered as he looked at the approaching Zoe. Like a concerned parent, his first words were a slightly scolding deep voice, "It's late. What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you, Shawn. I was waiting for you on purpose," Zoe said. She even flicked her hair and threw several flirtatious glances at Shawn.
Chase couldn't help but blush at the sight. He thought, 'Goodness. Zoe is bold. She has seen how Shawn had just treated that woman, and yet she still dares to say such things. Isn't she afraid of being tied up and sent home, too?'
But to everyone's surprise, Shawn's reaction to Zoe's teasing was completely different from how he had treated Sophia.
When Zoe took a few steps closer and threw herself into his arms, Shawn didn't push Zoe away. Instead, he wrapped his arm around Zoe, pulling her close, and even placed his hand on her back.
Zoe leaned her head against Shawn's chest. Her fingers playfully ran up and down his torso, and she cooed, "Shawn, you've got such a great physique. I'm getting more and more attached to you."
Chase and the soldiers' eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. They thought, 'What the hell! Is this still the legendary warrior we know?'
They all knew how Shawn had treated Sophia just moments ago, like she was nothing. If Sophia had dared to come any closer, they wouldn't have been surprised if Shawn had pulled out his gun and shot her.
But now, Zoe was practically dancing on Shawn's landmines. Yet, Shawn showed no sign of displeasure at all. It was as if he had already accepted Zoe touching him, however she wanted.
The soldiers thought, 'Crazy. This is absolutely insane.'
Zoe, with Shawn's tacit approval, continued to touch him without any reaction from him. She thought, 'No disgust? No anger? This is not what I have expected.'
Zoe felt bored since she couldn't get the reaction she wanted from Shawn. But she hadn't forgotten why she had come out in the first place.
After letting go, Zoe chuckled and said, "I saw that woman earlier seemed pretty persistent. You seem to dislike arranged marriages, right? Since we're on the same page, I'm also tired of having too many admirers.
"How about you try being my fake boyfriend? This way, those women will back off and stop bothering you. I believe it will be an excellent plan to pretend. What do you think?"
Zoe said this, but she didn't expect an answer. She planned to get close to Shawn, become his nominal girlfriend, and then, when he least expected it, she would send him to his doom.
Seeing how Sophia's desperate attempts hadn't even made Shawn glance back, Zoe was pretty sure Shawn wouldn't agree to her proposal. She would have to think of something else.
Chase and the soldiers were stunned by Zoe's suggestion. Their eyes widened in disbelief. They thought, 'Goodness! Is Zoe pushing her luck? Sophia was crying and running away because Shawn had rejected her.
'Yet Zoe, who had witnessed the whole thing, doesn't back down. Instead, she goes even further, directly proposing to be Shawn's fake girlfriend.
'Everyone can see through her plan. She is using the fake relationship as an excuse to get close to Shawn. It is such a blatant move.' But Shawn's response left all his subordinates standing there like statues, stunned.
Just as Zoe was lost in thought, Shawn raised his arm and pulled her out of his embrace, only to pull her back into his arms again.
The masculine scent filled Zoe's nostrils and flooded her brain and limbs. She froze for a moment. Looking up, she saw Shawn's thin lips move, his jawline slightly lowered.
She heard Shawn say, "Sure. For the sake of the plan, you can move in with me right now."
