Shawn completely ignored Sophia storming off in anger. He raised his hand and gently brushed his fingers against Zoe's lips, his eyes lingering on her face.
Calm and unhurried, he leaned down just slightly—his lean but powerful body folding smoothly—so that he could meet Zoe's eyes at the same level. From where Sophia was in the distance, it looked like Shawn was kissing Zoe.
"Was that fun?" Shawn asked with a soft chuckle near her ear.
He was teasing her for messing with Sophia. Zoe gave her usual mischievous smile. "Of course it was."
Off to the side, Chase and the other soldiers were all stunned as they watched the two interact. They were starting to believe that Shawn and Zoe were secretly in a relationship.
Sophia ran out of the base, wiping her tears, and headed straight home.
Coincidentally, her eldest brother Samuel was at home. When he saw Sophia coming in with red eyes, he immediately put down his work and rushed over, concern written all over his face. "Sophia, what happened to you?"
"Samuel, I-I don't want to live anymore!" Sophia covered her face and burst into loud sobs.
Samuel, who had always spoiled her, instantly understood what was going on. Sophia only ever broke down like this when it had something to do with Shawn.
"It was that punk Shawn again, wasn't it?" Samuel patted her shoulder, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
He turned and started heading out. "Sophia, just wait. Shawn's treated you like this one too many times. I'm not letting it slide. I'll go deal with him right now and get justice for you!"
"No!" Sophia shouted, choking through her tears. "It's not Shawn's fault. He just made the kind of mistake any normal man would make. It's that bitch's fault—she seduced him!"
Hearing this made Samuel's blood boil. His face turned red with anger. "That bastard Shawn! He knows he's engaged to you and still fools around with another woman? That's outrageous!"
Seeing how worked up he was, Sophia quickly added, "Shawn isn't like that. I know him. It's all that woman's fault. If we just get rid of her, Shawn will come back to me. I believe in him."
"Don't worry, Sophia," Samuel said firmly. "Your engagement to Shawn was agreed by both families. Some random woman can't break that."
"I'll call the Ludwig family right now and demand an explanation!" With that, he picked up his phone and made the call.
Seeing her plan falling into place, Sophia secretly smiled.
She believed that once the Ludwig family stepped in, Zoe would back off. As long as Zoe was gone, Shawn would still be hers. No one could take him away.
"Samuel, make sure they know Shawn isn't to blame," she added. "That woman came after him on her own. Make sure she disappears and never comes back to Jelonsburg!"
When Samuel's call came in, the entire Ludwig family was shocked.
The Ludwig family was a prominent and influential name in Jelonsburg and throughout Clusia. Along with the White family, there were no families more powerful in the whole country.
The moment they heard that a woman was trying to seduce Shawn in hopes of marrying into the Ludwig family, Shawn's grandfather, Joseph, slammed his hand down and roared, immediately ordering a full investigation into Zoe's background.
What shocked him even more was that Zoe turned out to be the very same girl who had recently become notorious online—she was the daughter whom the Evans family had only just retrieved.
This sent Joseph into a furious rage.
"Absolutely not!" he bellowed. "Shawn must never marry a woman like that!"
"Exactly! The Evans family isn't even considered a noble house in Jelonsburg. How could their daughter be fit to marry into ours?"
"Besides, Zoe was raised in a small village—a country girl with a disgraceful reputation! She's been accused of ambushes, forgery, theft... If this gets out, our entire family will become a laughingstock!"
