Not long after Shawn left, a waitress came over to Zoe and handed her a note. "Excuse me, a lady asked me to give this to you," she said.
Zoe took the note and saw the words on it. [Meet me in the garden.]
She squinted, crumpled the note into a ball, and tossed it on the floor. Looking around, she spotted Sophia chatting gracefully with a few ladies not far away, but Eunice was nowhere to be seen.
Zoe seemed to realize something. She set down her wine glass and headed straight for the garden, determined to see what Eunice was up to.
However, just as Zoe left the hall, Sophia quickly found an excuse to slip away from her group and hurried after her.
When Zoe arrived at the garden, she swept a cool glance around before saying calmly, "Come out. I know who you are."
Eunice, hiding in the shadows, was completely caught off guard by Zoe's words. She thought, 'Did she already know it was me?'
With that thought, Eunice finally came out. "It seems that you already knew it was me, Zoe. I guess there's no point hiding anymore."
She walked over to Zoe with an apologetic smile. "Zoe, I know I've made a lot of mistakes before, and I've always wanted to tell you I'm sorry.
"I was just too proud to admit it, so I came up with this stupid idea. I hope you won't blame me. I want to take this chance to properly apologize to you. Is that okay?"
Eunice looked delicate in her pure white dress, head lowered, her voice soft and seemingly sincere. However, a glint of cold calculation flashed in her eyes.
Zoe smiled slightly, pretending not to notice Eunice's behavior. She asked casually, "So, how do you want to apologize?"
Eunice turned and walked over to the round table in the garden.
There were two glasses of juice on the table. Eunice picked one up and handed it to Zoe, keeping the other for herself. "Zoe, we're family. I know you're a kind person and wouldn't hold a grudge against me."
Zoe didn't take the glass.
Eunice wasn't bothered. She continued, "Zoe, I know I was wrong. If you still see me as family, drink with me. Let's call it even, okay? I promise I won't ever go against you again."
Tears welled up in Eunice's eyes as she lowered her head, and she sounded timid and pitiful. For a moment, Zoe almost felt bad about exposing her true colors.
Zoe curved her lips into a beautiful smile and said softly, "Since you're being so sincere, I'll forgive you."
With that, Zoe took the juice and downed it in one go without a single hint of hesitation on her face. Seeing this, Eunice was overjoyed.
It seemed that her plan worked.
Suddenly, after drinking the juice, Zoe raised a hand to her forehead, staggered a couple of steps, and her vision blurred. "Why do I feel a little dizzy?" she murmured.
"Zoe, are you okay? Maybe there was some cocktail in the juice and it doesn't agree with you," Eunice said, her voice trembling as she stepped forward, pretending to help.
"I'm fine. I just—" Zoe suddenly rolled her eyes back.
The next second, she collapsed to the ground, completely unconscious.
Eunice couldn't hide her excitement when she saw what was happening. "Oh Zoe, I bet you never thought you'd end up like this, right? Do you want me to apologize? That's not gonna happen."
With that, Eunice shot a glance into the shadows and ordered coldly, "What are you waiting for? I didn't pay you to just stand here. Hurry up and get her into the room!"
The two burly men lurking in the dark immediately stepped out and dragged the unconscious Zoe away.
Just then, Sophia finally arrived. When she saw Zoe being hauled off by the two men, she could no longer hide malice in her eyes.
Sophia beamed at Eunice. "Nice job. I can't believe Zoe was actually dumb enough to drink what you gave her."
