Without another word, Zoe turned around and headed straight upstairs, leaving everyone else staring at each other in silence.
Bruce's expression shifted slightly as he watched her go. For a moment, he found himself a little dazed. He felt that Zoe was nothing like he had imagined.
And just like that, the matter with Eunice came to an end. Since she was grounded, she stayed out of Zoe's way for quite a while.
Bruce had rushed home in such a hurry that he hadn't even finished handling his business overseas, so he quickly flew back to take care of things.
Clara and the boys of the Evans family soon also got back on track.
Clara hardly went out recently. After Eunice's scandal, she had lost all her standing among the Jelonsburg socialites. Her former sense of superiority was gone, and she didn't even dare show her face in public.
Zoe didn't care about it at all. As long as the Evans family didn't come to bother her, she was perfectly content to live her life in peace.
After the Ludwig family's party, the international race Zoe had been invited to by the Clusian Racing Association was about to kick off.
Before she left, Charlie was buzzing around her, full of excitement.
Charlie said, "Zoe, I heard that you're about to represent the club in the international race. Can I go with you? I can help out, be your assistant, or whatever you need.
"No answer? Well, I'll take your silence as a yes. Do you need help packing for tonight's flight? I can help with your luggage.
"Hey, are you heading to the club? I'll go with you!"
Fed up with his pestering, Zoe's face turned grim. She brushed past him and headed straight for the front door, saying, "Don't bother."
Just then, someone from the club called. "Zoe, our departure time has been moved up. Meet us at the airport in an hour."
Zoe nodded and hung up.
She ignored Charlie, went back to her bedroom without a word, threw some clothes into her suitcase, and headed to the airport to meet up with Henry and the others.
Henry brought along some of the club's top racers, all senior members.
It was clear the club was taking this international race very seriously because this wasn't just about friendly competition—Clusia's reputation in the global racing scene was on the line.
It was a showdown between countries, and there was no room for mistakes.
Zoe had no idea that not long after she and her group boarded the plane, another team also got on and headed straight for first class.
As a few guys in plain clothes joked and chatted nearby, Chase quietly slipped into the seat next to Shawn and murmured, "Boss, I think I just saw Zoe in the economy."
Shawn, as striking as ever, kept his eye mask on, acting like he hadn't heard a word.
When he was silent, he exuded a charm like that of a Renaissance sculpture. The only time he showed any reaction was when he heard Zoe's name.
Chase continued, "Well, maybe I was mistaken. She shouldn't be here, right? After all, she hasn't had any trips abroad lately."
Chase was always careful not to reveal Shawn's identity as the legendary warrior. They didn't want to attract too much attention.
The plane took off soon.
Even though Shawn was in first class and Zoe was back in economy, both of them put on their eye masks and settled in for a nap at almost the exact same time like they were perfectly in sync.
The entire journey was smooth, and the plane landed steadily at the airport in Yaniston.
As soon as the plane landed, Shawn and his team—thanks to their special status—were the first to get off. That was one of the perks of flying first class. Since it was at the very front, they could get off before everyone in the economy.
By the time Zoe and the rest of the team got off the plane, Shawn had already left the terminal.
Zoe, completely unaware that this trip was about to cause a huge stir, followed Henry off the plane. They were met by the staff members, who took them to a designated lounge to rest and then transferred them onto a bus headed for the racetrack.
Zoe kept her eyes closed the whole time, quietly recharging. Henry and the others, all hoping she would get a great result in the race, didn't dare disturb her, afraid it might throw off her performance.
They entered the racing venue for the international competition.
This was the largest racetrack in Yaniston. It was massive and imposing, almost the size of a stadium. Anyone who hadn't seen something like this before would probably be left gaping in awe.
However, Zoe looked completely unfazed, which made Henry and the others wonder, 'Is this really her first time at a venue this big?'
Given how huge this international race was, the organizers had already booked hotels for all the racers from around the world at Gracevale Grand Hotel.
They reserved the entire Gracevale Grand Hotel, so right now, everyone staying there was a participant in this international race.
Zoe and her team had just reached the check-in counter when the receptionist shot them a dirty look, clearly unimpressed by Clusia's lackluster racing record on the international stage.
As the receptionist processed their check-in, he rolled his eyes and muttered, "Guess some people really have no shame. If I were always in last place every year, I wouldn't have the courage to compete."
He was speaking Yanish, but with such a strong accent that it barely sounded like Yanish at all. Unless one was a local, it was hard to understand what was being said.
Zoe's face instantly darkened.
After years of competitions all over the world, she had heard countless languages. Her teammates came from every corner of the globe, so she picked up most languages and even the local dialects with ease.
However, Zoe didn't say a word. As for Henry and the others, they could catch the condescension in the receptionist's words, but they couldn't fully understand the dialect, which was different from the Yanish they were accustomed to hearing.
Just then, a group of racers from other countries strolled in, and the mockery started flying.
"Hey, look! The Clusian team showed up again. Didn't they lose badly enough last year? How do they still have the nerve to come back?"
"Yeah, it's bad enough that they always come in last place. Just look at these skinny and small men. Compared to us, they look so fragile. I can barely spot them in the crowd."
The whole group burst out laughing.
